Hello everyone. First of all I would like to thank you for presenting my ideas about our next school play. My idea for the next successful school play is ‘The Crucible’ by Arthur Miller. ‘The Crucible’ was written by Arthur Miller in 1953 during the McCarthy hearings of the time. The Crucible is set in 1692 and takes place in the theocratic Puritan town of Salem in which John Proctor, the protagonist, must struggle to admit to his crime of lechery with the evil seductress Abigail to stop her from lying to the court and taking lives. But why should you choose this play over any other? Well the key points are that its plot is dramatically appealing to the audience with it being based off a true story, it’s relevant to society with the irrational fears of today and it is also one of the cheapest in terms of costumes, backgrounds and general aesthetics. …show more content…
Dramatic appeal is created by the way Miller wrote the play. The tension increases with each passing moment reaching a climax in Act 4. The audience will be on the edge of their seats right through until the end of act 4 rather than the audience sitting dully through a traditional conclusion after the climax. Another reason it has dramatic appeal is because the play is based on a true story in 1662 Salem and is an allegory to the McCarthy trials of the 1950s. Some of the audience could even remember these trials and be able to relate to the play. The play also has a supernatural element for the younger generations with the placing of curses and the ‘witches sending their spirits out’. This will add to the already compelling desire to watch the play right until the end unlike some other plays in which people will be sneaking out towards the end after their child has said their lines. In this play that can’t happen as they won’t be able to leave because the tension and structure will keep reeling them back before they can get out the
The Puritans arrived in America in the 16th and 17th centuries hoping create a purified version of the church as they believed the Church of England had still had too many components of catholicism. Humans are also invertly evil and this wickedness is displayed throughout many stories. Finally, moral values are also a central conflict to many stories. Puritanism, the evils of all humans, and moral conflict are a central themes to all three of The Crucible, “Young Goodman Brown”, and “The Minister’s Black Veil”. Although these stories are seemingly unrelated stories on the surface however when considering the under-the-surface meanings of these stories many similarities appear including the impact of Puritanism, the wickedness of all humans, and moral conflict.
The play did a great job of conveying this, as I found myself being entertained as well as deeply entwined with the story line. The attempt could have been a shot in the dark, but it hit the nail right on the head and I found it very pleasing. However, the one dark mark on this play is that it had a hard time balancing out the perfection in every character.
The Crucible was based in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The book starts off with Reverend Parris finding the girls in the woods dancing. Upon finding them Betty Reverend Parris’s daughter and some of the girls become ill. Abigail Reverend Parris’s niece tells him that when he found them in the wood Betty was so frightened when Parris found her she fainted and won’t wake. With Betty and the other girls unable to wake rumors of witchcraft start around the community.
The Crucible is about a group of girls that was singing and dancing in a forest near a fire and got caught by a minister named reverend parris. Many people was wondering and very suspicious of what they’re were doing outside. The main girls names was Abigail ,Tituba and Betty etc. A man named Reverend parris who is basically the leader of Salem and a minister also the father of Betty and uncle of Abigail was very rich .When the girls was finished dancing Betty mysteriously fainted because she didn’t want to get in trouble because her father had saw them outside in the forest.
The purpose of a written play is to allow the audience to have a chance of imagining and interpreting a play in their own way. The 1996 Hollywood film version of The Crucible takes this broad area of imaginations and uses it to cultivate a wide range of moments within the film that creates a better sense of understanding and emphasis of the play 's main idea. For example, in the introduction of the 1996 Hollywood film version of The Crucible they make a point of starting the movie with the scene of the girls dancing in the woods with Tituba. The construction of this scene creates a contrast with the book where we were only told that this event had happened as opposed to actually witnessing it ourselves. Therefore the creation of that opening
This shows that people need to do the right thing no matter how hard it is so that events in real life do not get out of hand like they did in the play and like they did in the real Salem Witch
The Crucible The Crucible was originally made as a old english play, over the years it has been changed many ways. It has been performed many times, it has been made into a movie, and lots more. Every time it gets remade it 's never the same as the original. The script, characters, places, objects, and everything else that you can think of has been changed through the years that The Crucible has been out. The small changes can have huge impacts on how the story is told.
“The Crucible” is a fiction story that took place in a small town called Salem in the state of Massachusetts in 1692 during the spring time. The plot of this story is about a group of girls who went into the forest led by a black slave named Tituba. They were all dancing in the forest until Reverend Parris caught them dancing in the forest and even saw one of the girl naked. Parris’s daughter Betty who was there in the forest falls into a coma-like state when Reverend Parris caught them. The times back then were terrible. The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller in 1953 about The Salem Witch Trials of 1692.McCarthyism was the “witch hunt” for the communist in 1953.the parallels between The Crucible and McCarthyism are naming names, lack of proof ,and reststance. The first reason they are parallel is because of naming names. Hollywood director Elia Kazan went in front of the HUAC twice. The first time he did not confess and names.
Taken place in the late 17th century, the Salem witch trials turned family members and longtime friends against each other. The citizens of Salem, Massachusetts feared that there were witches among them, and even the slightest hint of strange behavior caused an uproar and a court trial. The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, tells the story of the many accusations and their consequences. This play should be part of the English curriculum. It has a different style of writing, the language goes along with the times, it is based on real events, and the difficulty level is just right for high school students.

This is what many people in the town of Salem had to go through during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. People's motives such as: gaining and maintaining power, and aspirations for what other people had caused them to make irrational, and atrocious decisions. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, desire and power drive characters to create chaos in the community.
In the play along with the movie The Crucible, John Proctor and Abigail Williams have interesting relationship bound by adultery and lies. Abigail becomes obsessed with John and will do anything to be with him. John quickly shuts down her fantasy ideas and tells her that what happened between them was a one-time thing that will never take place again and a mistake on his part. With this knowledge, she soon spends all her time plotting to get John all to herself and to make him fall in love with her, even if that means taking out John’s wife, Elizabeth. We see many examples of this forbidden relationship through their secret encounters and arguments in both examples of the story, still, there were more scenes of John and Abby alone in the movie than in the play.
It shows whoever reads it why lying is a sin. A society or puritans, focused on perfection of religion, is shocked by an occurrence of witches. Witches are the Devil’s evildoers, and should be persecuted at once. Abigal, the drama queen of the play, attempts to kill the wife of the man she loves with witchcraft. They are found, but whenever Abigal and the others attending are being accused, they lie, blaming others of being witches.
“Character Analysis over The Crucible” Arthur Miller is a commonly-known playwright, most famous for his 1953 play, The Crucible. The basis for The Crucible came from the witch trials which occurred in Salem, Massachusetts during the puritan era. Miller even uses some of the same characters in his dramatized play that were a part of the original witch trials in Salem. However, Miller made a few alterations to the historical members of the Salem society in order to suit his dramatic purpose in The Crucible, particularly Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Reverend Samuel Parris.
" Adversely, the story doesn't leave much for the reader to decide how to feel, it almost tells one how to feel because the detail is so engaging. That was just the point that Glaspell was trying to make though when she decided to turn the play into a story. It was the story, rather than her play, that drove her message home; the pursuit of justice for women in a man's
