The Book Thief Rudy Friendship Analysis

Rudy Steiner is Liesel’s destined best friend. Death says that Rudy was in love with Liesel the day he met her, and Liesel loved him only as a friend. Rudy wanted to be a runner just like Jesse Owens, but this caused problems for him and his family. Rudy is also described as a lemon haired boy with gangly blue eyes. 4.

Liesel shows that she is not afraid to act out and stand up for what she believes in when she tells Hans that she hates the Fuhrer. She also presents the fact that she is a hard worker because of how dedicated she is when she is learning how to read, she never gives up and she is always patient with Hans because she knows he’s not the strongest reader either. She understands that they need to help each other out when it comes to reading and writing. Rudy reacts to Liesel in a cute, funny way because he has an immense and obvious crush on her. He is always pestering her for a kiss and I believe he really does love

Liesel has realized she must respect the man who was the reason for her and her entire families suffering. She has realized she officially has lost her home, that she is completely isolated from the community. “It was quite a sight seeing an eleven year old girl try not to cry on church steps, saluting fuhrer”(Zusak 115). After losing all of these emotionally wrecking things Liesel learns and understands she needs to keep going forward. She refuses to give up she although times are rough manages to think, it could be worse.

One of the most important recurring themes throughout The Book Thief was Liesel’s relationships with all of the people in her life. She grows close with several different people, and trusts, loves, and cares for them all differently but equally. Three of those relationships will be explored more deeply; Liesel’s relationship with her foster father, Hans Hubermann, the Jewish man her family takes in, Max Vanderburg, and her best friend, Rudy Steiner. Liesel’s relationship with Hans is one of the most important, if not the most important, relationships in the novel. Hans is the first person Liesel trusts, and the person who stays with her and loves her until the end.

Rudy, the protagonist of the movie, grows up catholic in a low-income industrialized city together with his family that loves Notre Dame football games. Rudy’s ultimate goal is to get into Notre Dame and play football in its team; however, he does not have the grades, the physical configuration or the economic resources to be admitted to his dream school (and play football). Hopeless and disbelieved by everyone around him, Rudy eventually follows his siblings and father into work at the local steel mill where the majority of the male population of Joliet Illinois ends up going. Empathy helps Liesel connect with others, specifically her foster father, Hans Hubermann. She creates a close bond with him because he demonstrates kindness and empathy to Liesel, which helps her learn the value of empathy. As a result, this has an effect on how she communicates with others, such as her foster mother Rosa and her friend Rudy Steiner. Liesel develops a passion for books and reading, which becomes a way for her to cope with the harsh realities of her life. As she reads books to others, such as her neighbors during air raids or to Max, a Jewish refugee hiding in her basement, Liesel realizes the power of words to comfort, inspire, and connect people.

They quickly formed a friendship and love, although they may have denied it, that lasted many years until Rudy’s final days. Rudy was one of the only important people in Liesel 's life, and most certainly one of the people that loved her most. “He must have loved her so incredibly hard. So hard that he would never ask for her lips again and would go to his grave without them” (Page 303). Rudy took his love for Liesel to his grave, never able to hear her confess what he knew, that she loved him just as much as he loved her.

Friendship is the medicine for a wounded heart and the vitamins for a hopeful soul. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, a girl named Liesel suffers through many losses. She is taken to a new home where she developed friendships that helped her heal her wounds and survive World War II. Friendship is portrayed through her connections with Hans, Rudy, and Max and it is learned how essential these friendships are to her survival. At the beginning of the novel, she developed her first friendship with Hans.

The theme of this book is learning to love and care for the people around. How I came to this conclusion is by how Liesel acts towards Max, her foster parents, Rudy, and her neighbors. Liesel cares for people even if they weren't like her and she doesn't understand why there is hatred in this world. She wanted the world to be a happy place for everyone including Jews to be friends with one another. On page 426 in ‘The Book Thief’, when Rudy’s father went to war Liesel could relate to Rudy because “her mother.

The characters in a story. They are hard to bring to life, yet a story would be incomplete without them. I love to write, and I often don’t have troubles creating my characters. But what makes every character stand out is that special thing about each and every one of them. That’s one thing that I loved about “The Book Thief,” by Markus Zusak.

Max not only is in danger himself, but puts Liesel's whole family at risk. “Now I think we are friends, this girl and me. On her birthday it was she who gave a gift to me,”(Zusak Ch 12). Liesel gave Max the gift of friendship, and that meant a lot to Max. Liesel hugs Max as an act of pity, but Max sees it more than that.

Words in The Book Thief demonstrates that words and language have immense power. Words can be used in a negative or positive ways. Hitler used words to spread propaganda in a fallacious way which led to deleterious human beings. The people (Germans) that lived during the war were credulous about what Hitler said therefore their life turned out to be debacle. Hitler used words to deceive and outsmart the others, he implanted words and images into the Jews heads to think a certain way(Zusak, Markus Frank.

In the novel, Liesel’s behavior shows justice and love through her friendship with Max. Although her relationship with Max in the beginning of the book was rather awkward, soon her perspective towards Max soothes and their relationship bonds to a friendship. There are some times when Liesel’s actions were unbelievable, especially during the Jew parade. “ ‘ You have to let go of me Liesel.’

Though Markus Zusak has written many other good books, The Book Thief is his bestselling book for its outstandingly distinct writing, perspective, and story of love. The story starts off with an abrupt death of a young boy, which sends Liesel away to the Hubermann’s home in a state of grief. Despite her low spirits, she quickly makes friends with Rudy Steiner and learns to love her adoptive parents, Hans and Rosa. Hans develops a close and loving relationship with Liesel, who sees him as her support and guidance throughout her adolescent years.
