English 3 The Bio After High School Fallen Angels a historical fiction book, written by Walter Dean Myers in 1988. This book was inspired by his brother who passed away in Vietnam. Richie an African American teenagers who graduated from high school in Harlem, New York. After high school Richie wants to go to Vietnam to fight in the United States Army. Fallen Angels is historically accurate fiction because this book isn’t true but it relates to the characteristics of the Vietnam War, Walter Dean Myers was in the military. The theme of this book is youth and innocence. The four characters are young and don’t really know what to expect when they arrive in the Vietnam War. Richie,
In the beginning of the novel, Perry was an uncertain teen who didn’t know where his place in life was “The real question was what I was doing, what any of us were doing, in Nam” (69). By the middle of the book, Perry started to become doubtful of himself and started to say Jenkins and Carroll died because of him “In a way i felt real bad just for being alive to write it” (110). And by the last few chapters he really starts to lose his way and lose his judgement from right and wrong “Maybe when we all got back to the world and everybody thought we were heroes for winning it, then it would seem right from there” (229). During my reading of Fallen Angels, I began to notice the theme, and I think the theme is that War is devastating to people because it can totally mess you up psychologically and physically.
Reewee Pates: An Unbreakable War Bond Richie Perry and Peewee Gates have the most groundbreaking bond while fighting the Vietnam War. In Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers The two main characters Richie Perry and Peewee Gates are assigned to the same company during the Vietnam War. Throughout the book, the two characters are practically put through pure hell, but this never breaks the bond the two men have. The two soldiers meet at the beginning of the book before boarding the airplane that takes them to Vietnam. One reason why Peewee and Richie have such an amazing bond is because they grew up in the same position.
In the novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, the main character is Richard Perry. In the beginning of this book, Richard was a generous and eager to start as a soldier in the Vietnam War. He soon becomes responsible and understanding of what it is like to be a black soldier in the war and how hard it can be to the other soldiers. Near the end, Richard becomes powerful and alerted near the end of the book. This character clearly relates to the theme of the book, which is age and race can impact somebody’s life a lot.
The Killer Angels, a book written by Michael Shaara that explains the crucial Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War, along with the perspectives and lives of both the leaders of North and South. The bloodiest battle of the Civil War is explained through the eyes of the leaders of Union and Confederates in a way that is breathtaking and exhilarating. Even though South was determined and bold; The North was able to wear the confederates down because of their leaders who had a strategic plan and clear concept of war to take in prisoners and win for the sake of freedom. The essential concept of war for the Unions meant to free the prisoner slaves and restore the balance and freedom to the country they had fought from the British.
The Killer Angels follows the three day long, decisive battle of Gettysburg during the United States Civil War. The book’s storytelling is purely chronological, as the story progresses our perspective is flip flopped between the Union and Confederate sides of the battle, however the story is consistently told in the 3rd person. Michael Shaara uses immense details when describing this battle and does an incredible job of describing every character and scene, making everything easy to visualize and allowing you to put yourself in the story. The story reveals to us the thought process of all the seemingly fearless military leaders, as they discuss battle strategies and how to outsmart their opponent. Many characters throughout the book explain

Through careful representations of these diverse characters, Kushner discusses state politics and the struggle for power which he brings to an individual level, emphasizing thus the effects they have upon an individual. In his mixture of realism and fantasy, Kushner depicts specific instances of personal experience within a wider political scene, with an aim of “proposing a pluralist vision of liberalism in the quest of countering the homogenizing, conformist American society of the last two decades of the twentieth century” (Stanciu 2). It is interesting to notice that, regardless of writer’s personal political predilections, Angels in America attempts to allow both sides to have their say. Its most lovable character is dying of AIDS, but
Angels in America would not have been so wildly popular (plus controversial) if it was not written during The Reagan Era and the start of the realization of the AIDS epidemic. “The author writes only what he or she has learnt from that particular
