English Final Exam Essay: You Are the Hero
In 1949, Joseph Cample recognized a pattern in stories about heroes. He recognized a pattern in the stages they went through; he called this the hero's journey. We can see this in many things and places, such as The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Bruce Banner from The Avengers, and even ourselves. If we break the hero's journey into stages, we can observe that the second phase is where the hero grows as a person and as a hero.
In The Alchemist, the main character, Santiago, goes through the stages of the hero's journey very apparently. If we focus on the second stage of his journey, his growth as a person and as a hero becomes very obvious. The second

It is also for us, the everyday humans. We too are the heroes of the story—the story of our lives. We see this throughout our entire lives and every single day. I could go on and write for days about how I have lived the hero's journey over and over, but instead we can zoom out and look out and see how our entire lives are one big hero's journey. If we look at life from that perspective, that would indicate that I am in the second stage of the hero’s journey. I have been constantly dealing with struggles, from which I have learned. One of my biggest struggles, from which I have learned and am still learning, was the transition from middle school to high school. While this is a common struggle for almost all students, that doesn’t mean we should overlook it or write it off in our own lives. When I first began high school, I was filled with adrenaline, which fueled me and kept me on my toes enough to keep up with the workload. This "honeymoon phase" came to an end, and I started falling behind. My grades dropped, and I fell behind with homework. It wasn’t as if I didn’t notice that my grades were slipping; I did not motivate myself to get the work done. As the semester continued, my grades kept slipping, which is why I made the choice to put in the effort and pull through with my grades. I knew this task was not going to be easy, but I had to make that decision if I wanted to remain at Ignatius. In the beginning of my "academic comeback," it was hard; I wasn’t sleeping right or eating well. But very slowly, day after day, it got easier. I dug deep and found the motivation to get work done. By the beginning of the second semester, homework and studying were not as treacherous a task; things were looking better, but as in any hero story, things took a turn. Midway through the second semester, I became too comfortable with how I was doing. I let my guard down, and my grades
Joseph Campbell’s, The Hero’s Journey, appears in the foundation of modern hero tales, such as drama, storytelling, myth, and religious rituals. The first step in The Hero’s Journey is the Departure phase, it’s where the hero has an unusual birth or early childhood and is forced to leave their everyday life to face the challenges that await them. Next, is the initiation phase, it’s where the real challenges and trials occur. The hero has a mentor or guide who gives them a special weapon or advice so that when the hero faces the darkest part, the temptation to give up or quit, they will transform and achieve their goal. Lastly, the return phase is when the hero returns home and is able to recognize the experiences the hero had in the other world.
A Hero’s Journey is a Monomyth that was created by Joseph Cambell. This is a cycle that was made to show how the cycle goes when there is a hero in a story. The cycle can be applied to basically any journey or hero story. The Hero’s Journey plays a role in the movie Star Wars: A New Hope, the phases that is follows is call to adventure, supernatural aid, meeting the goddess, atonement with the father, and the ultimate boom.

Annalia Avila Dunning Humanities 3rd 5 October 2017 TITLE How can one decide what classifies a hero’s journey? Is it one specific detail or multiple details that compile into one common thing? The answer to this is simple, because it could be both.
This change, which represents the hero's resurrection and return, marks the end of the hero's journey and signifies their growth and transformation. Sully's journey in "Monsters" is a clear example of the hero's journey, as it includes all the key elements of departure, initiation, allies and helpers, and

A man named Joseph Campbell made a perfect archetype for the main character called “The Hero’s Journey.” Often described as three parts the separation, the initiation, and lastly the return. For the character to develop oneself as a person he or she will cross a point of “The Hero’s Journey” when they meet a mentor.
Every story consists of common structures of stages which can be found in myths, fairy tales, dreams, and movies. These stages of each story is made up of twelve steps which is known as the hero’s journey. The first stage we see during the story is called The Ordinary World, with this we can identify the hero and see the problems, urges and their special characteristic in the normal world. This is necessary for the audience to relate to the hero and make his journey more interesting. The next step is The Call To Adventure, something occurs in the hero’s ordinary world which creates a challenge or a quest that the hero cannot deny because of the risks if they refuse.
The hero's journey is evident in multiple different stories. It describes the twelve stages the hero has to go through on the journey. The novel, Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief, demonstrates all twelve of the stages in the hero’s journey while Percy has to save the world. The book shows all stages in the hero’s journey but the three stages that are thoroughly explained are, the call to adventure, test/allies/enemies and the reward.
This book, along with being a utopian fiction, follows the Hero’s Journey archetype. Even though this book may not have purposely been made as an example of the Hero’s Journey the book and many others follow the paradigm. It may not be a perfect example, however, it definitely has it’s moments. The first three steps of the Hero’s
The way we face difficult situations defines who we are as a person, sometimes these situations provide opportunities for us to be heros. According to Grant Wiggins’s definition of a hero, by the end of the novel he becomes a hero himself. He states, “A hero is someone who does something for other people. He does something that other men don’t and can't do. He is different from other men.
But a lot of times what’s not discussed is that success comes with sacrifice and a lot of decisions that could be dangerous and if you choose wisely you’ll be alright. The hero’s journey can be used as a cheat code kind of. How? Well it tells you what’s going on in the story and breaks down the main events from when it got bad to resolving the negative along with analyzing everything for what it is not just guessing at what it’s like to succeed and the hero’s journey brings nothing but positive feedback on what you need to work on or just how’s everything going. So comparing my crazy life using the hero’s journey I’m not so sure I’d be the hero
The first stage of the Hero’s Journey is the Ordinary World. In the Ordinary World, the hero has a normal life where the character is either not satisfied with his or her life or has a vivid contrast to the journey that the hero is going to take. This is similar to how the main character in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H.White
A hero is someone who saves something crucial to the life of large population of people. In Haroun and the Sea of Stories, The Hero Haroun fights off the Cultmaster Khattam-Shud and the chups in order to save the sea of stories. Saving the sea is vital not only because it’s where all the stories are created, but also it’s where some of the living organisms live. A unique attribute of a hero is he or she doesn’t just fight for themself, rather they fight for something that benefits and will unite a group of people. A hero must also fail many times before he or she is able to succeed.
Everyone has heard a good hero story, because they are everywhere, in the media, in history, and in even with each other. Tales of action and adventures have been around since humans have known how to tell stories, but every story has a similar journey that they embark on. The tale of the hero has many variations, but they each follow the same basic pattern that Joseph Campbell describes in his book A Hero with a Thousand Faces. Some stories only follow the basic outline of a hero, and others can be traced along the route exactly. An example that follows the outline exactly is The NeverEnding Story (1984) which is a movie based on a German book by Michael Ende.
