White, gold, anejo, reposado??? These labels are always seen on the label of tequila but what do they really mean? I know I pick by color thinking that the darker the tequila the stronger it is. I have always wondered how long exactly is tequila aged? And why is name tequila? I know we drink tequila to cure our deceptions of life but what else is tequila good for besides getting us all giitty or making us forget about a bad day? Since when has tequila been around? The Aztecs loved a fermented drink known as pulque, which used the sap of the agave plant. The milky liquid was so important to Aztec culture that they had gods in relationship to booze. The first was Mayahuel, the goddess of the maguey, and the second was her husband, Patecatl, the god of pulque. While there are a lot of theories on the beginning of agave distillation, a common story involves the Spanish invasion and primitive mud stills. When supplies of pulque began to run low, the Spaniards improvised with mud and agave, essentially creating what we know today as mescal. In 1873 mescal made from Tequila, Jalisco is now officially distinguished as “Tequila” to stand out from other mescals made in southern Mexico. There is various types of tequilas the most common are silver and gold label. Tequila silver also known as …show more content…

Bernal Diaz del Castillo Bernal Diaz was born in 1492 or 1498 to Maria Diaz Rejón and Francisco Diaz del Castillo, a regidor (council member) of the town of Medina del Campo, in Castilla y León. The family was distinguished but not wealthy. In 1514, Bernal went to seek his fortune in America with Pedrarias Dávila (Pedro Árias de Ávila), Bishop Fonseca's newly appointed governor of Castilla del Oro. A cruel and unscrupulous schemer, Pedrarias excelled at extorting riches by torturing native rulers, looting gems and gold from their graves, and eliminating potential rivals. (Pedrarias had his prospective son-in-law Balboa and four companions beheaded on trumped-up charges in 1519.)
The travels of Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was born around 1490 in a small Spanish town called Jerez. He was believed to have grown up with his grandparents, because his parent died when he was young. Cabeza de Vaca left Spain for the Americas in June 1527. In April 1528, the ship's captain, Narváez, landed near present-day Tampa Bay, Florida with his large army of soldiers and settlers. Even with shortages of food, the Spanish made its way first north and then west along the southern coast of Florida to the Gulf of Mexico in Florida’s panhandle.
If one was able to afford wine, it showed the wealth of the individual. Later, it began to mark the social status of communities. As history progressed, the Arabs distilled wine to make a stronger drink known as spirits. The drink was utilized many ways: medicinally and pure enjoyment. While beer, wine, and spirits were alcoholic drinks, dry beverages built world civilization too.
Greeks also had a method to drink wine. Before drinking any wine, it was mandatory that the wine was mixed with water so that the wine don’t make you lose your soberness. If this was not done, it was considered barbaric. Greeks said only their god Dionysus could drink wine just as it is. Wine was also the most important drink at symposiums.
Since the age ten I had waited eagerly for years for my quinceañera to come. A quinceañera, meaning fifteen years, is an event meant to mark the transition from childhood to adulthood, but when I was ten I was not thinking of the importance of a quinceañera. In my callow head it was just a grand party being held for me in which I would get tons of gifts and money. I knew what a quinceañera was, but I did not pay much attention to the meaning behind it. Little did I know I would have to stop playing with dolls sooner than later.
It is hoped that the Native American land will not be deserted like the Chaco Canyon and Cahokia, and that language is not lost. A culture that has benefitted the earliest of settlers in America should not be forgotten. Rather than seeking oil sources in order to make our economy “self sufficient” (Yan), why don’t we search for alternative energy sources in our country that are non invasive. The Missouri River doesn’t have to be subjected to oil spill, instead it could become a source of hydroelectric
Spanish Florida was “an unanticipated discovery,” which was the first major European land in the New World. It was also the first attempted settlement in North America during the European Age of Discovery. From the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, the Spanish Florida, also known as La Florida, was a colonial military outpost for the Spanish Empire. La Florida was maintained for the protection of the Spanish treasure fleets during their return from Havana, Cuba to Spain. The success or failure of the Spanish settlements was in the hands of the native populations that needed food, protection, and labor.
Cabeza de Vaca’s Survival Secrets Imagine that you are cold, lonely, and stranded on an empty island with only 3 other people. What would you do? Cabeza de Vaca and the other 3 survivors’ raft has been washed ashore on the Isle de Malhado, an island also known as the Island of Bad Luck. It was November of 1528, and the clueless Spaniards had no ships, let alone clothes and food.

The Aztecs, like most ancient civilizations, were practicing a polytheistic religion. The most well-known of those civilizations possibly being Ancient Greece. The similarities don’t end there; when most people think of the Aztecs and their religion, they think of their inimical ritual of sacrifice. Thousands of years before, in North Africa, the Carthaginians were sacrificing many of their people, even infants. Most researchers believe it was to appease their gods and even to control the population, which are also reasons Aztec experts believe to be true for the Mesoamerican civilization.
The first distillation of rum took place on sugarcane plantations in the Caribbean during the 17th century. Of course the most famous association with rum is that of the Royal Navy. Historical documents show the Royal Navy discovering rum for the first time in 1655 when they captured the island of Jamaica. The daily ration for each sailor was at that time French brandy, however since rum could be produced on site, the ration was changed to Jamaican rum. The English sailors found the effects of the rum to be a little stronger than they could handle, thus the practice of watering it down with ale began.

Firstly, the Aztecs had a complicated and diversified pantheon (Appendix A). The Aztec had a strong belief in their Gods, and according to the scholars, the Aztec religion had over 200 gods and goddesses, often based on those of older Mesoamerican religions. Theoretically, the Aztec deities were divided into three groups ruling different human activities or aspects of nature: the heaven or the sky; the rain, fertility and agriculture; and the war and sacrifice. Especially, with culture based heavily on farming, the Aztec had many agricultural gods. Some Aztec popular gods and goddesses were: Huitzilopochtli (The tribal God of the Mexica of Tenochtitlan and the patron of war and sacrifice), Tlaloc (The god of rain, storm, water and thunder),

However, the black and white photographs focus more on the agave, the plant in which tequila is made from. Comparing the pictures, the viewer can see how important the agave is to the community.
DETERMINATION OF PERCENTAGE ETHANOL IN BEVERAGES 1. Introduction to Gas Chromatography Gas chromatography is a very powerful separation technique for compounds that are reasonably volatile. The components of a sample partitions into two phases, the 1st of these phases is a immobile bed with a great surface area, and the other is a gas phase that permeates through the immobile bed. The sample is evaporated and passed by the mobile gas phase or the carrier gas through the column. Samples separates into the stationary liquid phase, based on their solubilities at the given temperature.
