Teflon was discovered by Dupont chemist. When Dr Roy J. Plunkett use polytetrafluoroethylene to make an experiment with chemical refrigerants, he tries to pump the gas tetrafluoroethylene into hydrochloric acid and he does not see anything happen in the outside. When he hold the cylinder that contain tetrafluoroethylene, he sees the cylinder still heavy. After that, he thinks it is a good idea to cut the cylinder to see what happen in the inside . When he cut it out, he sees the tetrafluoroethylene have polymerized and it as a waxy powder. This waxy powder is a nonstick substance known as Teflon. Teflon is a common name that Dupont used to call it. Teflon is very repel substance and they don't stick anything because the chemical structure of polytetrafluoroethylene have the fluorine atom and this atom does not want to sit near other element in the molecule . In addition, they have fluorine atom bond to carbon in the chain. This molecules also do not want to stay near other molecules. However, the fluorine atoms are very like to stick with another fluorine atoms in the chain, so that make the chain of polytetrafluoroethylene is very attract to each other. The polytetrafluoroethylene has a high melting …show more content…

It is very helpful for nail polish will stay smooth and flat. It is very strong coating help make the nail resisted to moisture, erosion. One of many qualities that make Teflon is very impressive that it is heat resistant. This is why hair straighteners and curling irons have coating with Teflon because those devices usually undergo with high temperature. In addition, there are many applications that use Teflon for coating in the automotive industry. Teflon resin the wiping edge reduces the friction. The blades of windshield wipers are the most important because the smooth surface allow them to slide smoothly across the
