Moral values were lost in the mid 1950s and lasted until 1968. African Americans were considered “lower class” compared to whites. There was a line that the colored race could not pass before authority. If blacks questioned authority, it was paid through crucial consequences. Segregation creates hatred, takes away rights, and kills family heritage.

This was the case in Fahrenheit 451 as the people had their freedoms taken from them as the government thought it was in the best interest of the people. Bold actions were taken by the government in the name of helping society becoming a better place. Captain Beatty explained the motive when he told Guy, “Now let’s take up the minorities in our civilization, shall we? Bigger the population, the more minorities. Don’t step on the toes of the dog-lovers, the cat-lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs, Mormons, Baptists, Unitarians, second-generation Chinese, Swedes, Italians, Germans, Texans, Brooklynites, Irishmen, people from Oregon or Mexico…

Thomas Jefferson said it best. When any form of Government becomes destructive of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness it is the people’s right to alter or abolish it.

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the government is most like a strong central government. In the story, the people are almost “brainwashed’ into thinking what the government wants them to. The government controls what their people know and their knowledge about other countries. And all books are banned, because of the possibility that people will read about how other societies are better and might rebel. The schooling there is completely different, and they learn practically nothing.

In the United States, both African and Native Americans were two underprivileged groups who gained political and economic rights during the years of 1865 to 1915. But the rights that they had gained was then limited, due to the U.S. Government’s suppression and discrimination towards these minority groups. Using various forms of laws that codified White Supremacy by restricting their civic participation. In 1865, after the Civil war, many southern state legislatures began enacting Black Codes, which were a set of state laws designed to maintain the social and economic structure of racial slavery even though slavery was now abolished.

Rosa Parks was given the name “mother of the civil rights movement” because of the actions that she did against segregated laws. Parks, in the most segregated city in the United States, Montgomery, Alabama, refused to give her seat to a white person in a public bus. Parks refused to give her seat up because she stated that she was tired of seen all Africans giving in to the orders of whites. She was tired of whites always winning and blacks having no voice. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts the soul and damages the personality. It gives the segregator a false sense of superiority and the segregated a false sense of inferiority (385). Dr. King’s use of logic helps his readers to understand and feel the power from which Dr. King is speaking with.

From her many speeches and appearances she made, many people started to recognize her and supported her on the messages she was trying to get across. The primary purpose of a government should be to protect and serve its people, right? Not always. Consider this; what if the governments top priority is really itself? In Arthur Millers The Crucible, their government becomes selfish and exhibits corruption, argues evidence, and is unfair to its people. Governments tend to move away from the best interest of the people and only serve the agendas of a few to preserve their own reputation. One example of government only looking to preserve its reputation is exhibited in Act I when Parris attempts to save face.

Simply put, Rosa inspired the rest of the African American communities around the United States to protest through boycotts whenever they had the chance to do so. Rosa parks follows another woman, Claudette Colvin. Claudette did do exactly the same thing as Rosa, but she was pregnant at the time so the NAACP though she didn’t have the ability to stand up on her own. Colvin, Parks, Lafayette, Emeagwali, Fuller, Malcolm X, and Bridges are just a couple of the great african-american heroes. Rosa Parks is a influence on all people. She shows everyone that if they stand up in what the believe in they can do all things, even if there are consequences.

Governments like to be in command and supervise its citizens. With that, there are always some citizens that will rebel over the people in charge. People will rebel because they gain much knowledge from literature, news media, entertainment, and presently, the internet that contradicts the government. The government is intelligent because it has the power to change what the people look at to make them dense and without an opinion of what the government says. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury shows an accurate representation of what the government does to its people.

To me, if the public could not take part in the decisions that affect their everyday life, and would just have life-altering decisions made for them, would not make sense. I would want to know that I had a say in what goes in my community and country. The freedom to know what is going on in your country, and to give your opinion is all your own only if it doesn’t cause harm. Just like in banks where you can take out the amount of money you want as long as the loss of money will not hurt your budget in the long run.
