These forces will maintain a brought together (as one) land operations skill in the basics, but also has a clear mission or special abilities ready for more.This approach requires us to adapt forces from the lowest levels by emphasizing leader development and leveraging technology to empower the force.

The Army of the future will continue to provide the Nation the ability to decisively defeat the enemy on land, which remains our top priority. The Army also represents one of America’s most credible deterrents against future hostility and plays a critical role in shaping the strategic Climate through matured accord our presence has advance over time.
The Army remains an indispensable source of support for the Joint Force. Accordingly, they are the most important things a unit does. The Army must focus on three strategic ends for training the Total Force: training units to be versatile and ready to support combatant commanders worldwide;and holding commanders responsible for the development and execution of progressive, challenging and realistic training guided by the doctrine of mission command. The outcome of these efforts will be more adaptive forces capable of achieving regional alignment or mission tailoring as required. Training for operational adaptability will take place at home station and combat training centers, in Army institutions and while deployed. SPC: Captain Dearth, 1st Platoon The book “Black Hearts One Platoons Descent into Madness in Iraq’s Triangle of Death” by Jim Frederick is a true story about multiple leadership failures and six United States Soldiers from 1st Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division who were convicted for their involvement in horrible crimes while deployed to Iraq. The horrific acts including rape as well as murder committed by the soldiers of 1st platoon were a direct result of poor military leadership. Bad leadership will corrupt any military unit.
During Operation Anaconda’s harsh combat environment, the subordinate’s commanders and leaders were able to rely on their expertise and situational awareness to allow them to make the necessary orders on the battlefield. The mission command idea is based upon principals including competence, mutual trust, shared understanding, commanders intent, mission orders, disciplined initiative, and risk acceptance. Operation Anaconda showcased the significance of applying mission command principles in complex and challenging environments. Although the initial battle plan faced setbacks, the ability to adapt, integrate joint assets and improve allowed coalition forces to achieve their objectives.
Broadening is achieved through career with experiences and education in different cultures and organizational settings. There are different opportunities in the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) that could represent an opportunity to broadening their career, these are in the area of Recruitment, High Head Quarters (HHQ), Instructor, National Guard Bureau (NGB), Title 10 or a Nominative position. The best combination to broadening and stay competitive is that we can have NCOs that meet the requirements of the NCOPDS and in turn have the growth that the Army needs. Broadening NCOs are better able to operate in complex environments. Military bearing is the start in which every soldier practices either as enlisted or commissioned in order to have good discipline and ethics throughout a military career. Army regulations and soldiers should live by the creed that a military service member should conduct themselves on a daily basis, on and off duty . Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage are Army core values. To be a dependable Soldier you must show your NCO’s that you can be an adult with time management, meet deadlines, be in the right place at the right time, in the right uniform, and doing the right thing at the right time. Dependability is a major aspect of military bearing.
Lt. Owen's mortar section had little to no experience on the weapon systems that they were working with. He trained them from darkness to darkness with consistent drills in different types of situations. Lt. Owen also admits that despite excess training before the war, their first battles were "far-from-perfect exercises." This made me realize that not only does an officer have to be adept at his duties, but he needs to motivate and instill to his soldiers the same level of proficiency, regardless of peace or war time. Also utilizing complacent time as a means to further train such as when they were at sea.

My intent is to provide a clear vision to the 4th ABCT, that states, “Be the best armor brigade in the world, consisting of trained, responsible, motivated, and caring Soldiers and Families; capable of executing any assigned mission with unequaled success. The 4th ABCT has experienced several challenges that have led to ethical and moral issues along with a lack of confidence in the leadership. Among these five characteristics; military expertise, honorable service, trust, esprit de corps, and stewardship of the profession, I believe that military expertise and stewardship of the profession are the two characteristics that make a leader excel in the presence of their peers. ADRP 1 defines military expertise as, “Military expertise is the design, generation, support, and ethical application of land power, primarily in unified land operations, and all supporting capabilities essential to accomplish the mission in defense of the American people”. In order to gain trust from your subordinates for them to follow your guidance, a leader must have military expertise. Without being an expert in your field, subordinates will not trust your guidance provided unto them. ADRP 1 defines Stewardship of the Profession as, “Stewardship is the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its five essential characteristics now and into the future”.
