In Briar Rose, Gemma, one of the main characters repeatedly tells the fairy-tale “Briar Rose” with her own twist to her grandchildren. She does this because she is trying to teach her grandchildren about her past but can only teach them through the fairy-tale as it is all that she can remember. This is how Gemma deals with her past and the pain caused from it. Also in Gemma’s version of the fairy-tale, when the prince kisses her she is the only person who awakes however in the actual fairy-tale everyone awakes. This is a metaphor which represents the pain of the survivors who have to continue life by themselves.

The fairytale Maleficent most people know of today isn’t an original. The tale of Sleeping Beauty is one that has been told for generations. From a simple fairytale to a thrilling film courtesy of Walt Disney, Sleeping Beauty has won the hearts of many. The traditional version embarks on a young girl who falls in love with a stranger, but later finds out that she is a princess and betrothed to another. After being presented with new knowledge, she is taken to her castle and pricks her finger on a cursed spinning wheel, falling into a hundred year sleep. Meanwhile, her lover from earlier is revealed to be the prince she is betrothed to, and he finds and gives her true love’s kiss to break the spell, leaving them to live happily ever after.

Most of the children read about many fairy tales, especially Snow Whites, Sleeping beauty, and Cinderella when they grew up. It is a surprising fact that to discover a hidden, unexpected political intention in the simple plot of fairy tales. That is a feminization of woman. The fairy tale world suggests a male-centered patriarchy as an ideal basic society and impliedly imply that man and woman need to have a proper attitude toward this opinion. However, Jewett’s A White Heron describes a new perspective of fairy tale’s plot.

There are two different versions of “Cinderella”; there is a Walt Disney version and another version by Anne Sexton. Both of these versions are the same, but they are told to the reader differently. In both versions of the story, the authors describe a girl who was enslaved by her evil stepmother and her step sisters, who has shown jealousy towards her. However, the most important part, about the two versions of the “Cinderella” story told by Disney and Sexton is that both have different elements that are comparable and contrasting. The elements that compare and contrast both versions of the story are the plot, characters, characterization, and conflict.

The fantasy is about Buttercup, a milkmaid, and Westley, a farm boy, who fall in love and have to face many obstacles. The story mainly develops the themes of true love and revenge. However, in the book, The Princess Bride by William Goldman, the story develops the theme of revenge and true love in more depth compared to the movie. First of all, the book provides a detailed past of each main character which makes the reader sympathize with them. For example, in the book, the author has dedicated four to five pages to understand Inigo’s and Fezzik’s past.

Charles Perrault, the author of the short story “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood”, writes about fantastic creatures, magic, and love, following the generic conventions of fairy tales. When compared to Perrault’s short story “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood”, Atwood’s poem both compliments and contrasts Perrault’s. These two texts, although similar, offer different views on the genre of fairy tales. The Cinderella tale has been at the heart of many stories for generations. People have become very familiar with the storyline, as it is very prevalent in society today through many moderns movies and stories. The Cinderella story is adored by young children, more specifically by young girls. However as a more feminist culture has emerged, society’s viewpoint of fairytales is becoming increasingly negative. In, “The Princess Paradox” and “Cinderella and Princess Culture”, authors James Poniewozik and Peggy Orenstein further evaluate themes found in the Cinderella stories.

Giambattista Basile’s story of the original Sleeping Beauty called Sun, Moon, and Talia, and Disney’s 1959 film Sleeping Beauty have both shown that true love can prevail the threats that come at someone in life. In Basile’s version of sleeping beauty, the king rapes Talia, impregnanting Talia to give birth to two babies that she cherishes deeply, and falls in love with the king after meeting him (Basile, 2). This portrayal does not help send the message because she is strongly in love with her babies all because of the king, ignoring the fact that the king rapes Talia unconscious. Beauty and the Beast is a fairy tale that have many motifs similar to others. For example, in terms of plot, one, begin the story with the difficulties that the protagonist has to face. He or she has to be nice and patient. Like Beauty, she is a good girl who sacrifices herself to go to live with the Beast instead of her father; as a result, she saved her father’s life. On her sixteenth birthday, Aurora would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. Luckily, a good fairy was able to soften the curse and instead of dying, Aurora would fall into a deep sleep, only to be awoken by true love’s kiss and live happily ever after. This fairy tale might seem adoring and kid-friendly, but it was derived from a very horrifying story, in which the princess was woken up by the prince raping her, instead of a loving peck on the lips. The brothers Grimm based their version of Sleeping Beauty off of Perrault’s “Sleeping Beauty in the Wood”.

The story about Sleeping Beauty was addressed repeatedly by storytellers from different countries of the world. The image of the ever-young virgin in a lethargic dream who is waiting for her lover was so attractive that it constantly wandered in literature in different guises. Suffice it to recall "Snow White" and "Sleeping Beauty". The plot of these tales is international in characters, and the tales themselves are deeply national. Why is the story of the sleeping princess so attractive to different countries, the death of which turns into a magic dream?
