Summary: The Florida Everglades Water Supply

The Indian River Lagoon is a beauty to Florida, and a natural landscape, but, it is at risk from pollution. Chemicals, algae blooms, and harmful things that humans do to pollute it, it also puts the animals living in the lagoon at risk of dying, and becoming endangered. The causes of the Indian River Lagoon take effect greatly. Freshwater is also very important, it is a vital life source. There are harmful chemicals from pesticides, fertilizers, impacts this problem a lot.

How is the presence of Burmese pythons changing the Everglades? The Burmese python is a beautiful snake that can weigh up to 200 pounds and grow up to the length of 23 feet according to Piven 44. These snakes are native to Southeast Asia and ended up in the Everglades. These snakes mean no harm but due to irresponsible owners these snakes have adopted to the Everglades ecosystem.

To save the local animals in the Everglades, we must find some way to stop the population of the pythons from growing. All animals have different impacts on the Earth and they all deserve to live, especially those who do no harm.

David Andrews, Everglades National Park director states, “this program is what has paid for all of the pythons to be removed from the Everglades National Park area. Without the funding, the pythons would continue to over populate and decrease the mammal population even further. It would also allow the pythons to continue preying on the endangered species in the area until they could possibly become extinct.” Scientist are especially worried about the overpopulation of these snakes because of the diminishing population of animals. All of which led to the decrease of native trees, plants and fish-eating birds.

Sure it’s nice for people to consider the well being of the fish, but sometimes we have to ask ourselves if what we are doing is really worth it and how it will affect us in the long run. I am pretty sure these 1 billion dollars can go towards something more useful than the San Joaquin River Restoration

Values of the Florida Everglades The Florida Everglades is a national park where animals live in harmony because of this thing called biodiversity. Biodiversity is a word commonly used to "describe the relative number of different species in an ecosystem. " The everglades depend on its ecosystems, that’s how everything stays running and alive. Without the everglades, there wouldn't be as many species, the everglades houses these species and without it, many of them would be extinct or endangered. The everglades play a huge role in the survival of many different plant and animal species.

I will be going over both ways that are being done now and ways that we can save these creatures. First of all, the Florida fish and wildlife commission has set up zones where strict rules are being forced. The biggest one are the zones that the manatees can stay where no boats or swimmers cannot go. This provides

If this solution is to be effective, it is crucial that we get rid of the elements of the dilemma’s origin. Since the Everglades are such a valuable natural resource it is important that it be protected. Therefore, I believe that restrictions should be placed on the agricultural expansion that has been the main cause of the pollution. My solution would be to expand the area that agricultural industries are not allowed to touch.

In “ Can We Fix the Water Supply ? ” it states “ … Because the sugarcane crop grows so well there. The Everglades is host to 440,000 acres of sugarcane. As the demand for the sugarcane crop increase, more land is needed for planting, …’’ With an increase in the sugarcane crop we are clearing more land which is destroying the Everglades.

Subject- Deforestation affects majority of the population, including people and animals, across the nation and in my community. Situation or Problem- Deforestation is the action of eliminating trees, in forests, by cutting them down. The objective of deforestation is to create more land for construction and land establishments with the idea of not restoring thee trees back or replacing them. How it affects my community- Deforestation can disrupt the homes of many animals, including birds and fish.

Not only does is affect our area in Yuma but other countries too that our water flows through. The Yuma Project all started from Theodore Roosevelt. He purchased an abandoned Fort Yuma Military Reservation in Arizona for all the different irrigation projects to be worked on. They also purchased and maintained different water supplies and operations until they were able to maintain their own supply of water. Earlier in the 1900’s the Yuma Project systems showed unsatisfactory with all the floods and grvaity effecting the system.

The purpose of this experiment is to determine how the water quality affects the Everglades ecosystem and how water pollution impacts different species. Urbanization is a big threat that contributes to poor water quality in water pollution.
