Technology has been evolving over time and so has our way of thinking and understanding. It is affecting the way we think, read, write, and live because it is all around us. In the article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid,” the author Nicholas Carr, a well known writer, discussed his very own opinion about how technology affects the person’s way of thinking, reading, and writing. As of the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid” I mildly disagree with the authors argument because Google is not making us stupid, instead it allows us to see and learn things that were once unattainable. What Google is actually doing is helping us create new ways to improve our abilities to learn new things and affecting our literacy and cognition positively. According to a research study at UCLA’s Memory and Aging Center, scientists split two groups of volunteers, active and inactive users of Google to compare how the Internet affected their cognitive, or mental brains by using MRI scans. The studies indicated that active users of Google had more advanced mental decision-making, and cognition than the inactive users of Google. Not only does this study demonstrate that the internet has a positive impact in people’s daily life, but it also demonstrated that internet usage helps understand complex reading. The internet has affected our way of reading positively because it helps us find information more quickly and less difficult than people who don’t have internet access. For example, whenever I am assigned a research paper I always use the internet to find good evidence and support my claim. Using books is rarely the case because it is more tiring and a lot harder since there's only one author writing the book I only receive one perspective.
