David McCullough is the author of “1776” a book taking about the revolutionary war. It all started with the American colonies wanting their freedom.1775 is when everything started building up to 1776 when the American Revolution when the revolutionary war was started. The Americans where done being under the British control. So when the American took action to get their freedom British was not to happy about it. America wanted to be their own country and the British did not want that happing.

One of the first things that sparked the unification among the colonies was the Albany Plan of Union(1754). The document was mainly drafted by Benjamin Franklin. It was drawn up because the of the frequent wars between Great Britain and France would often cause violent conflict near the American Colonies and the skirmishes the settlers had with the Native Americans caused many people in the colonies to feel unsafe. This plan was the first step into allowing the colonies to govern themselves, at least in regards to protecting the colonies ' safety. With the Townshend Acts(1773) and Coercive Acts(1774) passed by the Parliament of Great Britain, the colonist responded with violence and called for a Continental Congress.

Before 1750, there was salutary neglect from Great Britain towards the colonies. Meaning Great Britain didn’t show any attention to the colonies, thus the colonies were self-governed and didn’t have to listen to Great Britain. Enlightened ideas that came to American colonies before the war gave the consists ideas of freedom and rights. In the time period 1740-1766, the relations between Great Britain and American colonies were altered drastically due to the French and Indian war because Britain started taking over the colonies, Britain was trying to get out of debt by using the American colonies, and lastly the American colonies thought they had freedom of the land they won in the war.

Before the American Revolution, the British had appeared unstoppable. The thought that the colonies, who had existed completely at Britain’s will, could defeat them was astonishing. America gained their independence, despite the doubts. Without the tyranny of the British monarchy, the colonists had to establish a new government around the recently written Constitution. George Washington, one of the generals critical to the success of the revolution, was unanimously elected as the new leader.

American Revolution began in 1775. There were lots of events, which led to the America revolution. Till 1763, everything was going in favor of England. Majority of the Americas were in favor of British rule, and they were big supporter. They use to treat parliament and queen of England with full respect.

The relationship between Britain and its American colonies was civil at first but began to strain in the mid-1700’s. In the beginning, Britain ruled colonies with little involvement because they were busy dealing with the French and Indian War among other things. As a result of this, the colonies were typically left in charge of themselves with little interference from British authorities. After years of being left alone, the colonists had developed a feeling of freedom and independence. When the war ended there was a significant change in the relations between England and the colonies.

Before the American Revolution, the colonists still considered themselves to be English and followed British rule. However, the American revolution allowed them to separate themselves from British rule and form their own separate power. This separate power unified the colonists who now shared the same political, religious, cultural, racial, historical, linguistic, and ideological views which were different from their views under British rule. They were beginning to pave the way to becoming "Americans" rather than English.

What Caused the American Revolution The American Revolution was a battle for leadership in the American colonies. At the time, England controlled nearly all aspects, mostly the political and economic, of the colonial lives. Their purpose was to strengthen England. The colonies wanted the freedom from all of the control because they were doing fine without England.

The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.

Tensions were high between England and the colonies and the idea that a Revolution might take place wasn’t out of the question. And it was between those 25 years that colonists in America began to find a sense of unity and a sense of their own individual identities.

The people of America (colonists) were tired of being controlled by England. They wanted to be free and independent. They believed that they were able to control themselves and be their own country. They wanted England to let go of their control and to view them as independent and their own country.
