In his piece, “The Learning Curve,” Dr. Gwande explores the importance of practicing in order to learn a task. He also highlights the moral problem that accompanies practicing on patients.
Through his experiences while training to become a surgeon and learning how to put a central line into a patient, Dr. Gwande highlights the importance of practice in medicine. He says,” We need practice to get good at what we do.” He also mentions that one of the most important qualities of a surgeon is a,” person’s willingness to engage in sustained training.” I’ve always believed that,” Practice makes perfect.” In other words, while talent is useful practice and dedication is what constitutes good surgeons.
