The three spined stickleback fish has many unique traits. some of the most notable structural adaptive traits of this specie are the three spines and body armor. The three spines are sharp and located on the back forward of the dorsal fin. The lateral bony plates are located on each side of the body. These structural armors projecting from the back and pelvis can simultaneously flare out when the fish feels threatened as a defense against predatory vertebrates making it difficult for predators to swallow them. With the back spines pointing directly upward and the pelvic spine pointing out at a perpendicular angle make it difficult for a predatory fish that catches a stickleback to swallow the stickleback. This added benefit allows the fish
It was also determined that prehensile tailed platyrrhines had more pronounced and convex articular surface curvatures. Greater contour curvatures on intervertebral articular surfaces are associated with an increased range of flexibility and mobility of the caudal vertebrae, benefiting prehensile primates that use their tails in a variety of complex movements. Hence, through analyses of the morphology of caudal vertebrae, specifically their articular surface area and curvature, it was concluded prehensile and non-prehensile tails could be distinguished according to these structural features. Both of these characteristics relate to effective use of the tail during locomotion. This article is useful towards my GEM as it describes differences in bone structure of the tails of prehensile and non-prehensile primates, and explains the reasons that certain variations confer advantages to prehensile tail
Study of Hawaiian Fish by Hubert Vos was created in 1898. It is an oil on canvas, seventeenth century style Dutch still-life painting that depicts a elderly Hawaiian fisherman emptying a lauhala basket filled with bountiful catch of fifty-seven varieties of fish native to Hawaiian waters, carefully rendered from sketches of fish commonly displayed in the Honolulu Fish market, on a marble slab.1 I propose that this is work is a piece of art Hawaiian art because it portrays the ancient Hawaiian art of fishing, displays staple native fish that were important to the diet of ancient Hawaiians along with the ancient art of lauhala basket weaving . The reason why I chose this specific piece of art to write about is because it caught
THE GREAT LAKES The great lakes are comprised of 5 different fresh water lakes, Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Erie. The lakes are situated along the US-Canadian border, touching Ontario in Canada and Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio Pennsylvania, Indiana and New York in the United States. Roughly 34 million people in Canada and the United States live in the great lakes basin, and also 35 000 plants and animals, over 170 of those being fish, inhabit the great lakes (Zimmermann). This significantly large water body holds an estimate of 6 quadrillion gallons of water.
Dylon. G Mrs.Hornseth Period:4 Bottlenose Dolphins The history and traits and what a dolphin looks like is what this rough draft is going to be mainly about. Dolphins have a big reputation for having lots of curiosity. Some people thought that dolphins were smarter than humans considering that they have more lumps and a bigger brain.
The northern snakehead preys on zooplankton, smaller fish, fish larvae, crustaceans, frogs, insects, small reptiles, and even small mammals and birds. In the areas in which the northern snakehead has invaded, native populations are having gradual decreases because of the northern snakehead’s unextinguishable appetite. The most notable features of the northern snakehead fish are its snake-like characteristics. The fish has a long cylindrical body with the blotchy coloration and patterns of a snake.
There is a type of fish in aquariums, that when it swims, it looks like a dragon or like a horse, it’s relative. The leafy sea dragon is a type of sea dragon that looks like seaweed when it swims with many brown and yellow leaf shaped spines all over it’s body. It lives on the south coast of austrailia, the only place too see these little guys. The leafy sea dragon almost looks spiny, it could really creep people out with its “leaves” but its not hurtful at all. The leafy seadragon is a mastermind, it camouflouges really welll, is a carnivore, and has a weird way of mating.
For many it’s a first pet, a gift from family, something you won as a prize at a carnival, but for Canadian residents the familiar orange goldfish everyone knows and loves is becoming a serious problem. Some flush them in a hurry because they no longer want to take care of them, others commit them to a porcelain vortex because they believe their beloved fish has passed, and the Canadian Government is issuing a warning now to citizens of Canada to stop flushing their fish. Just a few goldfish with the potential to disrupt an entire ecosystem Goldfish are entering the ecosystem the way that a lot of invasive species end up in an environment they don’t belong, Humans are putting them there. Human interference is one of the leading causes of the beginning of over population of invading alien species. In this case many of the fish are going down drains, and ending up in Canada’s lakes and rivers.
The Great Hammerhead Shark has many physical attributions that make the species unique to other sharks. Perhaps its most well-known anatomical feature, the flat and t-shaped cephalophoil, aids the Great Hammerhead in catching prey. Ampullae of Lorenzini on the hammer-shaped head sense hidden prey, which especially benefits the hunting of stingrays. The variations within the cephalophoils differentiate hammerheads from each other. In addition, wide-set eyes give The Great Hammerhead shark a greater, more enhanced range of sight.
“Finding Fish” by Antwone Quenton Fisher was published in 2001, and is a novel chronicling Antwone Fisher’s childhood to early adulthood years. He faced many trials and tribulations growing up motherless and fatherless causing him to be sucked into the system which led him to face psychological development issues down the road. Antwone Fisher was born on August 3, 1959 by Eva Mae Fisher who was imprisoned at the time of his birth, and his father was killed few months prior to his birth leaving him parentless and abandoned. Due to his mother being in prison the time of his birth, Antwone’s mother was found unfit and revoked of her prenatal rights; and he was placed into foster care with the Pickett’s. The Pickett’s raised other foster

Even if you are not a fisherman you can 't deny that successful fly fishing is an art, requiring careful preparation and planning. The most indispensable part of the process is finding the right fishing flies for the area and wildlife you are planning to go fishing in. The fly fishing flies that fly fishermen use for bait are meant to match the size and species of the real insects that imbue a given area and attract fish. This way, they are indistinguishable from the fish who want to eat them.
In my hypothesis, I state that the stickleback fish would not have a pelvic spine caused by an insertion mutation in the Pitx1 enhancer region. According to the gel, the stickleback fish in Big Lake do not have the pelvic spine due to a deletion mutation found in the Pitx1 enhancer region. This can be further proved by the phenotype of the fish found in Big lake. The stickleback fish found in Big Lake (seen in figure 2) is smooth across the bottom, with no pelvic spine present. This proof supports the results of the gel
There are several adaptations that our dragons have that help them survive in their marine habitat. First, four toes increase water resistance on the foot, helping them swim faster. Second, their green skin helps them blend in with seaweed and kelp, helping them catch fish and protecting them from the Megalodon, their main predator. Third, the yellow coating on their eyes helps see heat radiating off their prey.
