This article on ethics was really interesting and a dilemma that is prevalent within criminal justice. In the article Dr. Steven Davis recognized that students cheating in high school increased by 20% in the 1940 to 75% today. Davis stated, "If students lack ethics in high school and college, then there should be little surprise that they lack ethics in their careers. (2008). " This observation by Davis holds some value, because individuals that is willing to cheat to get ahead, definitely has no problem crossing ethical lines, because in their mind the wrong is acceptable, just as it was when they cheated.

The IAMFC Code of Ethics encourages family counselors to “avoid whenever possible multiple relationships, such as business, social, or sexual contacts with any current clients or family members” (Section A). Similarly, the AAMFT Code of Ethics also requires that therapists “make every effort to avoid conditions and multiple relationships with clients that could impair professional judgment or increase the risk of exploitation.

In doing that, he also forfeits his family and friends. With that in mind, a question can be posed regarding the ethics of said behavior. As a childless, single and financially independent man, Chris McCandless has absolute ownership of his body and thus his decision to continue doing a sport that he knows can kill him is ethically defensible.
Mental health and self-help professionals such as clinical psychologist, and counselors traditionally have always underestimated the importance of lifestyle functions and stressors that affect their work. This consistent neglect within the profession has almost made what is being preached to their clients hypocritical, although, it has been repeatedly documented in the professional literature as portraying a blatant disregard for their own self-care (Dattilio, 2015). Research has found that over 59.6% of psychologists have admitted to the lack of self-care or psychologist impairment, along with admitting that they failed to cease working while being too distressed to perform their job successfully (Pettibone, Pomerantz, Segrist, & Williams,
An example of an athlete who “gained the whole world, but forfeit his life” (Mk. 8:36) is Lance Armstrong. This athlete took his goal to become a champion cyclist too far. The will to win is not intrinsically an evil goal, but he made the wrong sacrifices to achieve his goals. Ethical decision-making process are influenced by both individual and environmental characteristics, as well as an interaction with the cognitive process (Cooper, 2012). For every public official whose loyalty is to himself, his organization, and the public, the ethical decision-making process is dynamic, it is not constant, it involves a process of recognizing the problem and moving through the course of action towards finding a possible solution. It is contingent upon several factors. There is no one-size-fits-all for every situation, but the course of action is determined by the individual and environmental factors involved and the ethical character the public official has built over time. These are very common tools in the business organizations. People do believe that these formal ethics statement is just as controversial as they are popular.
