George Lucas was born on May 14, 1944 in Modesto, California where he was raised on a walnut ranch. During his teenage years he became very interested in drag racing and wanted to become a professional race car driver. Those dreams faded when he got into a horrible car crash that preceded his high school graduation. He enrolled in the University of Southern California after attending Modesto Junior College where he became a film student. He made many films, one of which won first prize at the National Student Film Festival. In 1967, he got a scholarship from Warner Brothers to watch the making of Finian's Rainbow (1968). This lead him to make his own company, Lucasfilm, in 1972. Lucas started writing the screenplay for Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope from 1973 to 1974. Lucas was inspired by Flash Gordon and the Planet of the Apes films. For the visual effects that were needed in the movie he established ILM (Industrial Light & Music) as well as Sprocket Systems, later known as Skywalker Systems, to edit and mix the movie. Star Wars was turned down many time until it was finally picked up by 20th Century Fox (“George Lucas Biography” par. 1-3). “Lucas agreed to forego his directing salary in exchange for 40% of the film's box-office take and all merchandising rights.” (par. 3). Star Wars earned seven Academy Awards and broke all box office records. While Star Wars is based on western ideals, we have to ask ourselves; what exactly makes star …show more content…
She is then taken hostage. R2 and C-3PO are separated during their escape from the imperial forces but are soon reunited when captured by Jawas scavengers. They are sold to Owen Lars, the uncle of a young Luke Skywalker. Luke finds a hidden message in R2 from Princess Leia when cleaning the robots. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, R2, C-3PO work together to save the Princess. During this they end up helping the rebel alliance, and bring back justice and freedom to the
Star Wars is an epic space opera film series created by George Lucas, which includes galactic battles, theatrical adventure, as well as chivalric romance. The music, mainly composed by John Williams, gives depth to the storyline and is something that fans of all ages will always remember. The specific Star Wars movie that I have chosen to analyze is Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, which was released on May 25, 1983.
Star Wars has a worldwide appeal that is here to stay for many generations to come, but how has it done this? While director George Lucas has received mixed reactions for his approach towards the prequels, this does not undermine the fact that George
Although they were brought together through very different circumstances, the rebels all had each other’s backs. They had to face serious peril in order to stop the empire, but overcame their challenges
In Star Wars IV New Hope you see several things that are like our world. Like how people negotiate business deals with each other. In the video, Han Soto reminds me of a used car salesman. Trying to convince you that this vehicle is a life changer with stories about how great it is. It sounds all good until he tells you the ridiculous price.
Gender and Race in Film from a Feminist Analysis Representation of women and people of color in the film industry remains mostly divisive issue due to the heightened attention to diversity in recent years. Based on this observation, the current paper analyzes the state of representation in this industry focusing on the film “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Star Wars: The Last Jedi “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is a film written and directed by Rian Johnson that was initially released on the 9th of December 2017. Produced by Lucasfilm, the film served as the eighth main installment of the hugely successful Star Wars franchise. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributed the film.
The release of the seventh Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was met with much anticipation and of course multiple fan-made theories. Is Kylo Ren a double agent? Did Rey have training in the force, but her memory was wiped? Was it Kylo Ren that saved Rey and sent her to Jakku? The theories are thought-provoking and contain viable evidence.
Like most of the details concerning Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the origins of the film's new two opposing sides have been a closely guarded secret. The original trilogy pit the menacing Galactic Empire against the rag-tag Rebel Alliance and now, some 30 years later, The Force Awakens continues the conflict with the former now known as the First Order and the latter known as The Resistance. We'll most likely have to wait until the movie to find out how exactly the two sides got to where they are but we did get some new information on the status of the Resistance courtesy of Oscar Isaac.
The “Star Wars” craze conquered every aspect of entertainment, from books, comics, movies and television series. And now the return of “Star Wars Rebel” is much-awaited as news emerged that it will have a connection with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with the character of Snoke. Episode VII left its fans with a lot of questions and cliffhangers waiting to be revealed. However, one of the most distinguish mystery of them all was the appearance of Supreme Leader Snoke.
In this essay analysis I will be looking at the Japanese influence on the Star Wars saga, looking at the similarities between certain films mostly made by Akira Kurosawa and a few others. I will also look at the cultural and social aspects of the time leading up to, and after the creation of Star Wars as well as the cultural and social impacts of the Star Wars saga. I personally find this topic very interesting due to some of the stark similarities between some of Akira Kurosawa’s work and George Lucas's Star Wars and I hope to show them in this report.
For example, Jaws was the first film that featured a new type of insane character, the giant shark. “Jaws changed the face of American cinema, influencing the next generation of filmmakers to eye summer release dates, high-concept ideas, easy marketability, teaser trailers, TV spots, media junkets, merchandising, and the almighty dollar” (Stephens). In summary, the movie itself brought about many changes, but the shark dreamed up and created by Spielberg inspired new subjects and characters in other future films. Without Jaws, the film industry would not have chased after these new ideas and concepts like having an enormous shark as the main character. Furthermore, Spielberg was one of the first to bring aliens into a motion picture and with that came inspiration.
He has worked for over 60 years in the Hollywood industry, first as composer for television, where he created music for popular series at the time, like Gilligan’s Island and Lost in Space. He joined Steven Spielberg in 1973 for the director’s first movie, Sugarland Express. Williams has been working with Spielberg since that year, becoming his principal composer. Only two years later,
Movie fans around the world rejoiced in May 2005 at the completion of filmmaker George Lucas's epic, six-installment Star Wars saga set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." The new film, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, filled the gap between the segment that introduced Star Wars to the moviegoing universe back in 1977, Episode IV: A New Hope, and the two prequels Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) and Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002). Revenge of the Sith tied the saga together, revealing how and why Anakin Skywalker, a prodigy of the Force, embraced the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, the infamous embodiment of evil who took on iconic dimensions in popular culture as a result of Episode IV more than a quarter of a century
Have you ever watched a Star Wars movie? Well, I am going to be discussing the seventh one, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is a film I watched of December 2015, at the cinema AMC. I enjoyed other Star Wars motion pictures, so I decided to watch this one. I have only watched it one time, but it was as cool as a cucumber.
People have high expectations of Star Wars Episode VIII, since the sequel will be the direct followup to the widely successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, Daisy Ridley claims that director Rian Johnson isn't feeling much pressure and is in fact being cheeky when sharing details about the film! In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ridley happily spoke about working on the new movie, which will begin where The Force Awakens ended: with the first meeting of Rey (Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in front of the Jedi Temple.
Get Romantic In “Star Wars Episode 8?” John Boyega recently spoke to Variety, where he was asked if it is possible that Rey and Finn will become an item in “Star Wars Episode 8.” The young actor had a clear response: “Finn and Rey
