The job of a Sports Information Director, or an SID, can be challenging, yet rewarding. A sports information director is basically a public relations specialist for their respective professional team or college’s athletic program. They are responsible for all of the information that is associated with that athletic program. They make the media’s job easier by being very organized, and are responsible for attending the games and taking notes before sending them to the media outlets (Amico 1). This occupation has many responsibilities and there are many skills needed to be able to handle all of them. To be qualified for the sport information director position, there are a few requirements that must be met. The most important requirement is …show more content…
The process is this quick because the job is very important and needs to be filled quickly, so the many duties and responsibilities can be taken care of as soon as possible. One of the major responsibilities that they will take on is compiling statistics for the teams. They use these statistics and send them to the media so they can look for new stories or trends. By staying on top of trends, SIDs can issue press releases that may help sports reporters or editors with story ideas. When a team receives media coverage, it can help create more interest in the community and at the school (Job Profile: Sports Information Director 1). The statistics generated in the games by the team and the athletes is then compiled into a media guide after it is distributed to the media, another important responsibility an SID has. SIDs accommodate media representatives who cover the various teams by issuing press credentials, supplying in-game statistics, and assisting in coordinating interviews and press conferences (Job Profile: Sports Information Director 1). SIDs can set up media days so the media may access their players and coaches and receive info on them. SIDs are also responsible for updating school website information and promoting the athletes. They keep track of each athlete’s biographical info as well as their statistics so recruiters are able to spot them. Basically the main …show more content…
In the next few years, I would like to gain some experience in any kind of sports management to help build my resume and make me look more appealing to companies. I would like to then gain some more experience in the field by working in Sports Information to really start to understand the job and what I will be responsible for. I would hopefully be able to find a job on campus or nearby that will do just that. In the long run, I would like to find an entry level job out of college, such as an assistant SID or just helping out in an office for an SID to gain knowledge from them. I would like this job to lead me into my own job as an SID, perhaps in a smaller college to try and get the hang of things. After working there for a few years I would eventually like to work in Division I college sports or even professional teams in the NHL or NFL. This would be a huge goal of mine to work closely with professional

There is always somebody who works behind the scene of an organization but does not receive the recognition that they rightfully deserves. Even though without them, the play would not have been possible. This can sum up the life as being a NFL Scout/Football Scout. NFL Scouts will not get much of the attention, but without the NFL Scouts it would not have been possible for something to happen. This paper will explain and breakdown the roles of a NFL scout and why they are an important part of the NFL and its’ 32 franchises.
I played sports from the age of seven through my senior year of high school. I gave up participating in sports after several knee injuries. At Shepherd, I am a Quality Control Coach for the football team. You may wonder “What is a Quality Control Coach?”, or “What does a Quality Control Coach do?”. In my case, I work with the offensive line (my supervisor is the offensive line coach), occasionally help in the equipment room , or film practices when other interns can’t make it to
My career goal in the exercise science and wellness field would be becoming an athletic trainer. I enjoy playing and watching sports and have some knowledge about certain things that needs to be done when an injury occurs to an athlete. In ten years, I would expect to see myself working as an athletic trainer at Penn State University. My result of the Kiersey Temperament Sorter does support my career goal because the result showed my personality type is that of an artisan. An artisan has natural ability to excel at jobs that require hands on operations such as an athletic trainer.
Next I enjoy planning programs. At programs I find out more about residents interest, goals, and stories. Programs allow for important educational aspects to be shared and discussed as house such as current events, health and wellness, and community services. Thirdly I want to be a RA next year to continue to have an open door

All good things must come to an end. There will be a day, when an athlete has to stop playing ball. That transition to stop being an athlete, will be the toughest game they play. They must be prepared for the day they have to stop attending the workouts, meetings, and playing the games. Many student-athletes are depressed when they don’t make it to the pros.
Within the last two decades, collegiate athletics has experienced enormous financial profits lighting the debate that the student-athletes’ in the larger revenue generating sports should be entitled to a share of the revenue their sport creates for their school program, the NCAA, and any other commercial purposes. As a result of the economic prosperity commercial enterprises are experiencing because of the rapid growth of college athletics within the television industry and social media, the NCAA is being forced to potentially alter what it stands for and certainly what is most valued in intercollegiate athletics being the preservation of amateur status, maintaining a healthy competitive balance, and the promotion of the educational missions
Despite the fact Wikipedia is not the most reliable source, I was shocked that who ever wrote the article decided to make the first section about football. Granted it was after the history, but it’s history was only one line. Included in this football section is a chart of head coaches and their records and playoff appearances. I chose to use two other high schools to compare the Wikipedia entries to, they were my high school, Connetqout High School, and my roommate’s, Barnstable High School. The Connetquot page was very short like Permian’s, but the entry on athletics, all of athletics, was only four lines long.
As a fan of multiple sports leagues and teams, I keep up with the different leagues and teams with a multitude of sports media outlets. Two outlets that I constantly find myself using are Bleacher Report and ESPN. ESPN being the larger and more well-known sports media source has different way to how they approach what their front page segments are or what sports they put the majority of their resources to report about. Bleacher Report being a smaller and newer company, they do not have the same approach to what they report and how they report about it. During this essay, I would like to discuss the similarities and differences that Bleacher Report and ESPN have when it comes to how they deliver their reports rhetorically.
Introduction When I think of sports and the media my mind immediately goes to one event every year. When I think of the culmination of sports and the media I think of The Super Bowl. Millions of dollars are spent every year for advertising just on this singular event. It is such a spectacular visual presentation.
Traditionally, recruiting has been done in a very physical manner. The creation of a successful team is the result of many factors; one fundamental component of successful college teams is the recruitment of the top athletes out of high school (“Amateurism and the High School Recruitment Process (sidebar)”, 2010). Every college sports team, whether it is soccer or football or gymnastics that participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) uses a variety of recruiting methods to impress potential student-athletes. While the concept of recruiting is not new to college sports, the methods of recruiting have begun to evolve in response to the increasing technological climate of society. As computers, cell phones, and social media play a more important role in communication patterns of the next generation of student-athletes, the ways in which these student-athletes communicate with potential athletic programs continues to change as a result.
To enhance my experience I would like to work with veterans, adult homeless, and the mentally ill. My objective is to be admitted into the Master of Science degree program with an option in Rehabilitation Counseling, where I can grow and take on new challenges. Ultimately, I would like to assume further educational and gain work experience that would allow me to work more effectively with people with disabilities. Most importantly, I would like to work for an agency where I can build a career in counseling and possibly management. I am driven to be the best at what I do.
I am currently studying Communications at Immaculata University, and minoring in Sports Communications. Throughout my childhood, communicating with people, and writing have always been my strong points. As I was finishing up my senior year of high school, my central goal was to help people, which is why I chose to study Nursing. However, I could not connect with nursing, as I was not content. At that time, I changed my major to Communications, focusing on Public Relations and Journalism, and I could not be happier.
One of the best and most recognized occupations in the sports broadcasting field is the game announcer and commentator. Commentators usually work side by side, consisting of the play-by-play announcer and the color commentator. Play-by-play announcers describe the plays that are called and explain what is happening to the athletes, while the game is happening. The color commentator takes over when the game is not in action, to share their thoughts and game experiences.
