Speech On Peer Pressure

Peer pressure influence teenagers to drink because many teens feel like they won 't fit in with their friends if they don 't do it .I think that Laurie Halse Anderson, the author of “Speak” , is saying that something bad can happen if you get peer pressured into do something bad. In the book, Melinda Sordino is influenced by peer pressure to drink alcohol because one of her friends is telling her to drink at a party . (Halse). I experienced peer pressure one time to drink, but I didn’t want to because something bad would happen.

In “Salvation” by Langston Hughes, he recalls a time from his childhood when he was at church. All the children of the church were being “saved” until he was eventually the last one who wasn’t. Feeling tired and pressured, Langston stood, declaring he had been saved. He felt horrible for lying, but the pressure placed upon him by the entire church outweighed the feeling of guilt. Similarly, people of all types experience a feeling similar to Langston’s; something called peer pressure.

Dictionary.com defines peer pressure as “social pressure by members of one 's peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted”. What many people do not experience is the same type of pressure, but within the family. Death of a Salesman is a prime example of a once happy family that turns into something sour. It is discussed multiple times, in the play, about family member’s futures in the business world. Biff, the son of Willy and Linda Loman, has the dream of working out on the farm.

Peer pressure is a very disturbing thing in our culture today. In the book ScrewTape Letters, ScrewTape informs Wormwood about peer pressure. Of how this pressure can lead one astray for going into the wrong crowd. People change people. It is easier to pull someone off a chair than to pull someone up onto the chair.

One example of peer pressure that I found in the book was when Scooter says that he is going to jump the nail but then he actually has to go through with it because he doesn't want to be called a "Chicken". Elisa also got peer pressured. I know Elisa got peer pressured because she said she was going to jump with Scooter but she didn't want anyone to know because she didn't know if she was actually going to jump.

The students do this to because of the peer pressure that follows them. However, self-induced pressure also plays a role in convincing the students to try and defeat other students. Students put pressure on themselves to seek success in school. Seeing the success of others near them produces a panic to settle in, which leads to just he focus on their studies and nothing else.

An accepting and healthy environment is needed. Many people face peer pressure because they are deemed uncool and are pressured to do uncomfortable things and things that they believe are not right. If everyone accepts everyone around them for their real selves and will not judge them, people will not commit unhealthy acts and develop undesirable bad habits. People need to surround themselves around healthy and positive company that will accept each other and have healthy core values.

Anecdote Suddenly one Friday night, Javier started seeing a bunch of gangsters arriving to the party in which they were at too. They were entering one after another, and began fighting randomly as they walked in. One of the gangsters that had arrived was holding up a gun to Javier and Javier’s cousin panicked that he would be killed. So, Javier’s older cousin runs to the back of his car and takes out a gun and passes it to his friend, he grabbed it and killed the ruthless guy that was going to kill Javier.

Many people don’t get the chance to survive and live to have a horrible death. Many people here in the U.S. don’t think that survival is important in other countries. I believe that in order to have a better world, everyone needs to survive and that means ending world hunger. Do you know when your next meal could be the last? Eight hundred fifteen million people don’t have the food they need because they have no job, natural disaster has struck them or they live in very poor spots of the world.

By the end of my speech, 212 underprivileged children around the world would be clenching their stomach and wobbling from garbage dumps to garbage dumps, searching for half- eaten food. 5 children in India would leave school to work in a dilapidated undergarment factory for 14 straight hours, enduring whipping, and pain just for 3 bowls of rice. 3 children in Africa would be dead after being beheaded by heartless invaders. The power to change this situation lies with every one of you present today. Basic necessity such as food, basic education, security are few of many things that underprivileged children lack.

Peer pressure is quite the controversial matter today. It is the feeling that someone your own age is pushing you toward making a certain choices, good or bad.(The Cool Spot). The level of peer influence generally increases as children grow and it has become an important influence on behavior during adolescence. Many researches and surveys have been done to find the answer to the question whether peer pressure is beneficial or harmful for teenagers. While Karcher &Finn (2005) claimed that peer pressure is the biggest factor result in bad behavious of adolescents; Bukowski (1998) and Salvy (2011) argued that pressure from peers can bring amazing benefits for them.

Good morning/afternoon all. An influence is something that has had an effect on character or behaviour of someone. There have been many influences that have affected my life, though there are four main influences that have primarily affected my life in different ways. My main influences are my family, the environment, science, and technology. These have affected my past, present, and future.

PROCRASTINATION, a deep and wide disease in a moral nature Procrastination is a thief of precious brilliant ideas and time, an enemy of progress. It is the irrational delay of creativity against your own best interest for a short or extended period, making you more sensitive to pleasure of the moment, and creating great difficulties in concentrating on long-term tasks. The beauty of procrastination is its ubiquity. Everyone procrastinates from time to time, but not everyone is a procrastinator.

‘Poverty’- a simple word with unlimited connotations. Poverty is a universal issue that has been plaguing our Earth for centuries; thus it is essential that the immensity of the situation is acknowledged by everyone. If looked up, you’ll find the exact definition of poverty being: ’general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. [1] Poverty is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. [2] Poverty may be defined as either absolute or relative.’

In our life, there are periods of challenges that we must face, but the real challenge is how we grow and learn from overcoming them. Being naive children, we believed that life was simplistic and effortless. Well, we were wrong, we can only yearn for life to be easy. Growing up, we continue to face countless hurdles that only get bigger and bigger. My life, in particular, has been filled with numerous up and downs.
