The history of American colonies began when the Virginia Company established the first colony in the mouth of the James river in the 1600s. Then many other colonies began to form along the Atlantic coast. There were three groups: The New England Colonies, The Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. Each of the group had their own way of living and had different social and economic life. They mostly practiced religion, farming, and trade. The main motivation was to generate profit for the mother country of England. The socioeconomic factors in North America from the early 1600s to the 1770s that lead to their ultimate rebellion against the mother country and their declaration of independence was enlightenment and great awakening, taxation without representation, and the chain of events during the mid-1700s including the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the Boston tea party. It was not a surprise that religion was a key factor in the social life of the colonies during the 1600s and 1700s. Some of the colonies were founded based on religion and some were against it. British people were too over the top religious interests and gave it a very high priority. Between the period of 1600 and 1750 more and more colonies were beginning to emerge and become established. Throughout colonial America, from New England to the Southern colonies, many colonies were starting to form themselves by placing a government and laws, social structure, economic systems, and more. By looking at the two British colonial regions: New England and the Southern colonies between the early 1600’s to 1750 it is apparent that type of government and religious diversity are different however, both regions economical systems were similar. Both governments in the north controlled the same type of the things like local laws and taxations, however the way government officials came to be in office is different.
The American Revolution was a war fought by American colonies to gain independence from the British control. The American Revolution was caused by a series of events. It all started with the French and Indian War in 1754. At the end of the war, King George III issued the proclamation of 1763 which prohibited colonists to settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains, many colonists took great offense at this order. The war between Britain and France caused Britain to be deeply in debt and demanded tax from the colonies.
In 1775, the Revolutionary War between Americans and Britain started. The reason why colonies decided to get independence was colonists did not want to be under the oppression of British anymore. They were angry when British imposed taxes on them because they felt that British ignored their rights. They had an effort to self rule from government in political ways, but it was no use changing their situation. They had disappointment to Britain, and recognized that it was not possible to be free within the British system.
Beginning from the joint-stock companies and the charter in the 1600s to the formation of the thirteen colonies in the mid- 1700s, the colonists transferred English liberty, law, and culture to the colonies. Although the purpose of the colonies was to provide raw materials for goods for the profit of England, the colonies practiced self government and created a new foundation of American identity within the different regions. The North American colonies differed socially and economically but were unified in political aspects. The people's incentives caused social divergence within the three regions of the colonies.
They all wanted freedom, equal rights, and respect. When the British began to tax the colonist, they became extremely upset and enraged, and because of this the revolution began. The colonists were unified, but also divided. Many of them were fearful for their independence because it would cause problems and turmoil with the new country. They were also divided because imported printing goods were being taxed.
The New England colonies were first founded in the last 16th to 17th century as a sanctuary for differing religious groups. New England was made up of the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. New Hampshire, however, was formed for economic reasons instead of religious ones. The Chesapeake region, which is made up of the colonies of Maryland and Virginia, was founded by the British colonies for the purpose of farming. However, by the 1700’s, despite both being settled by Englishmen, New England and the Chesapeake region had developed differently.
During the first years of the English settlements of North America the people who immigrated from England they formed colonies that with the support of the British government. The colonist didn 't pay a lot of taxes on their trading benefits to the government. Through the years, the King and the parliament started raising taxes on almost everything that the colonist was producing in the colonies. The colonists weren 't happy with the new taxation that the king was charging to the colonies, and it led the colonist to protest at British empire. There are several reasons why the colonists revolted against the British government.
The colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia were a start of the new world for England. These were founded by similar people but, with their strikingly differences, grew into separate political, economic and social structures. Both settlements arose from over-crowdedness in England: people wanted a better life. Virginia was settled by men who were single and looking for opportunities and wealth. Religious Freedom was the key role in the colonies. People were allowed to choose their own religion without the fear of being persecuted or tormented because they chose a different religion than that of the Church. The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.
New England and the Middle Colonies are 2 Colonies that are total opposites from each other, but do have some similarities. New England had no religious freedom because if you were not puritan then you could not live there. On the other hand, the Middle Colonies did have religious freedom, you could be a Quaker, Lutheran, Jewish, Catholic or French and a lot more as well. New England and the Middle Colonies share some similarities based on religion and other things as well. Some similarities were that the church was an important part of both New England and Middle Colonies towns.
Colonists who came to America differed greatly in backgrounds and settled for various reasons: Colonist in the New England Colony came to America primarily because they were religious reformers and separatist seeking a new way of life; the Middle Colony was inhabited by a tolerant and diverse group of people with different backgrounds; And the Southern Colony was mainly inhabited by English aristocrats, small farmers, and slaves. Because each colonial region inhabited different groups of colonists the social development differed greatly in each region. New England was founded on the Puritan faith and maintained a strong sense of faith, family, and community. New Englan was very strict on enforcing a strong sense Puritan religion, the lifestyle of colonist revolved around the puritan faith, so much so, it was referred to the "city upon a hill". Contrasting greatly with the New England Colony, the Middle Colony was greatly social and religiously diverse.
The colonists were mistreated from the start the British forced them to pay their war debts basically and controlled them harshly this caused the colonists to rise up and take back power. These events eventually led to the American Revolution and colonists
The New England and Chesapeake colonies were established during the early 1700s. Despite the population originating from England, the regions had distinct societies. This was due to the fact that many settlers voyaged to the New World in search of riches, to seek new lives, or for religious freedom. They differed socially, politically, economically, and geographically.
The people of America (colonists) were tired of being controlled by England. They wanted to be free and independent. They believed that they were able to control themselves and be their own country. They wanted England to let go of their control and to view them as independent and their own country.
