Ignorance In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury

In a world of suppression of knowledge through the burning of books, Guy Montag in Ray Bradbury’s, Fahrenheit 451, seeks to further understand knowledge and the potential that books can have on a society as a whole as well as individuals themselves. Although this is after the transformation in Montag’s character as before he was no different than the other robotic individuals. He actively played a role in the suppression of knowledge by working as a fireman who starts fires with a goal of burning books as opposed to today’s firemen who prevent fires. Montag along with other firemen would find pleasure in the burning of books as described in the opening line, “It was a pleasure to burn.” It wouldn’t be until Guy Montag meets a 17 year old girl

Remember when you were a kid and the only thing that mattered was that ice cream cone that you were about to get? Oh to be young and ignorant! Nonetheless, knowledge can affect society. What’s more, is that it is considered that ignorance can positively impact society. On the contrary, ignorance negatively affects society.

As they are talking Guy Montag says “You think too many things”(pg 9).

Montag starts to question the government and whether the government 's motives behind books are just. In the story Fahrenheit 451 the main character, Montag is constantly questioning his decisions, ideas, and what is wrong and what is right. In Fahrenheit 451 Montag 's encounters, the parlor walls, books, and people whom he meets reveal the idea that knowledge leads to happiness and that, with ignorance, you only wear a mask of happiness.

The differences and similarities between the book’s society and our modern day society really bulged out at me while I was reading the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. In Fahrenheit 451, books are banned. And instead of having firemen that put out fire, the firemen start the fire to burn down books and houses. There are many differences and similarities between our modern day society and the the society in the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. Such as our Government, Technology, and Behavior.

John Dos Passos once said, “Individuality is freedom lived.” The root of individuality lies in freedom. Without freedom, there is an inability to think for oneself and share one’s ideas. In a society where this freedom is lacking, people will not think for themselves and submit to whatever rule is enforced over them. In Fahrenheit 451, the government attempts to control freedom as a means towards reaching a perfect society.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451 conformity and individuality is something to talk about. Conformity and individuality are very important themes in Fahrenheit 451 and in modern life. The novel demonstrates how individuality is very rare. Is about modern America. Without individuality today, everyone would not be different and would follow someone else trends and everything about them.

In the futuristic book Fahrenheit 451 reality is turned upside down when heroes become villains. The world is blind to the evils that lay inside the government. The people who aren't are educated are hunted, and seen as insane. Morals will be put to the test, and although this book focuses on one man's journey through it all, it is very clear that the issues this fictional society faces could not be to far from issues what could happen in real life. Fahrenheit 451 is a direct representation of the theme man vs society and his journey to wake up the sleeping civilians of the United states.

Knowledge is a very powerful source that anyone can gain. Knowledge can help anyone reach their goal. In the book Fahrenheit 451 their society think knowledge is a crime. In their society they try to burn any type of knowledge, but they can’t burn all of it. Knowledge will find its way through experience.

Today’s society and Bradbury’s (fictional) society is not that far off. Free speech, human rights, and having a voice all leads to a working society.

How A Modern Society Can Change To Imperfection According to Lauren Oliver an author of many young adult novels, “I think that Dystopian futures are also a reflection of our current fears” (Oliver). Dystopia a word said when it isn’t a perfect world; actually the opposite. The future worlds are made up to be imperfect and scary, a future where every single person is equal and government reigns like a king over everyone. This means that all fears of being completely equal and controlled are what people make the imperfect future to be like.

Fahrenheit 451 is a novel written by Ray Bradbury. It is considered to be dystopian fiction which is used to display different social structures throughout the book. Published in 1953, this story takes place in a futuristic city in the United States of America. Books are illegal to own and anyone in possession of them will have to get them burnt.
