Similarities Between The Great Gatsby Movie And Book

Introduction 100 words In this film called The Dressmaker directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and a book called Jasper Jones written by Craig Silvey they will be comparing and contrasting the use of themes in the film and the book. Revenge in The Dressmaker happens when Tilly burned the town; in Jasper Jones Eliza burned her home. Then in Family Tilly and Molly has a rough start but when Tilly came back they turned out to be happy with each other, while in Jasper Jones Charlies mum and Charlie are happy at the start but went downhill very quickly when Laura disappeared. The themes are revenge, death, and family.

Have you ever been astounded by someone's actions that may seem so absurd and without any reasoning behind it? George Wilson, may have not been in the right mind, but nothing justifies a murder. The upper class, fraud of a lifestyle, in East Egg, has come to reality and their actions become costly. I believe George Wilson is guilty of Gatsby’s death.

While Tom seems shocked by this he doesn't act to worried because he knows Daisy need him and his money. As much as the reader wants Daisy to pick Gatsby, she follows her true desire and goes for the Tom, basically the money, instead because she simply could not help it. While Gatsby was in love with her because he thinks of her as his delciate little daisy, he sis in fact understand her attraction to money. He used this knowledge to build an elegant life in order to attract Dasy. This is the reason for all of his fancy over the top parties.

In the book, Gatsby is very foolish, his actions are unreasonable and unrealistic. “He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she should go to Tom and say: "I never loved you."” (125) Gatsby had expected Daisy to be the same girl she was five years ago, but the truth is that she isn't. Many things had happened to the both of them and he had set up a foolish expectation that Daisy was willing to leave Tom for him. Gatsby’s foolishness originated with Daisy.

When Gatsby’s name is brought up Daisy becomes uncharacteristically outspoken, “‘Gatsby?’ demanded Daisy. ‘What Gatsby?’”(page 14) this is foreshadowing of a preexisting relationship between Daisy and Gatsby. Furthermore, When the four sit down to dinner their conversation shows how prejudice and hypocritical Tom is. First, get a phone call that he answers from his mistress.

After leaving his small town, he became the acquaintance of Daisy, a young girl whom he falls in love with but eventually marries into “Old Money”. The root of Gatsby’s immorality comes from his envy over Tom’s marriage to Daisy. In

When he buys the home the man who had been living there before him had just died. This is foreshadowing of his dream not being able to work out. Gatsby throws extravagant parties every night. The only reason he does all this is because he is hoping daisy will come one night. In the end of the novel Gatsby wants Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him.

Throughout the book Gatsby had been trying to reach a goal. This goal being to see his past lover, Daisy. Gatsby had met Daisy five years prior to his meeting with Nick. Gatsby had to go and join the war leaving Daisy behind and her to marry Tom. Gatsby knew about the events going on in Daisy 's life and he strove so many limits just to try to reach her.

The Great Gatsby is an iconic piece of American literature encompassing the 1920s era in American history. This story was written in 1923 by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was later adapted into a movie in 1949, 1973, 2000, and then once again in 2013. In the 2000 version of the movie the plot line was very similar to the book with only a few major differences and a few discreet ones as well. The movie however, also followed the book very well and even used direct quotes from the book helping you to understand the point Fitzgerald was trying to make. Markowitz the director made many good decisions in this adaptation as well as a few costly mistakes that made the importance of the book and plot line of Fitzgerald’s book.

He made the mistake of making his happiness depend on her and could not accept the fact that she once loved Tom. As wonderful as man as Gatsby is, he is very deceitful to others of who he really is and tries to control everything. Gatsby is a man stuck in the past and with every day that passes, he gets sucked in even deeper into the abyss. Even though Tom and Gatsby had very different upbringings and live their lives completely different, in a way they are the same person. Neither one of them will admit their wrongdoings and are to self-absorbed into themselves to see what is going on around them.

For starters, there are similarities between the book and the movie. For the most part the the movie is very accurate with portraying all the symbolism that was portrayed in the novel. This includes the scene where we are first introduced to Jordan Baker and Daisy Buchanan, who are both wearing white and in a room filled with flowing white curtains just like in chapter one of “The Great Gatsby.” The color white in both the novel and film is supposed to represent innocence. There is also the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock that Gatsby reaches out to that represents his dream.

As written in “The Great Gatsby”, the first example of similarity is that the book has the same theme to the “Roaring 20’s”. In the written book, Fitzgerald described the parties as huge and dramatic, where as in the movie, the directors did a fantastic job translating Fitzgerald’s words into a lavish visual spectacle of booze, sequins, and confetti.

Forming part of the Lost Generation, these authors not only develop similar themes throughout their works, but heavily influenced each other. The Great Gatsby being Fitzgerald’s magnum opus, serves as a prime illustration of the staples of contemporary literature. In the novel The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald, the author depicts himself through a character, Nick Carraway, conforming to other self depiction common in the Lost Generation, such as Hemingway in the Nick Adams stories. Nick Carraway and Nick Adams represent Fitzgerald and Hemingway, both serving as apertures into Fitzgerald’s and Hemingway’s view of the world.

Identity Agreements Between Gatsby and Forest Gump People have different life styles and different characteristics as their identities in the society. A man who owns a company may be considered rich; a girl who smiles all the time may be considered kind. Everyone has unique identity to be distinguished from others. Some people’s characters may be very alike, and some may be completely opposite. Identity is addressed significantly in the book “The Great Gatsby” and the movie “Forest Gump”.

Two notable love stories, known by many, can be shown through The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by WIlliam Shakespeare, and The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. When it comes to the love for a woman, Gatsby devotes his entire life to gain the love from the woman of his dreams; likewise, Romeo is willing to do whatever it takes, even die, to be with the love of his life. Unlike Gatsby, Romeo is a poor man who must prove his love to Juliet through compassion and good deeds. Gatsby, on the other hand, not only proves his love through compassion but also throws extravagant parties to win Daisy over with his wealth. Though the two characters carried an unconditional love for another woman, both were forbidden from being with their companion.
