In Much Ado About Nothing and Othello written by William Shakespeare, he uses ideologies like deception, love, hatred, and revenge to portray life lessons. Most importantly, this makes his stories relatable to the public. In the book Othello and Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare, they share similarities and differences; for example, in Much Ado About Nothing, the Antagonist (Don John) tries to ruin Claudio’s marriage by making up the lie that Hero was unfaithful. However, in Othello, Iago also tries to ruin Othello's marriage, but what makes Othello different is that this major event leads to many unexpected deaths. This leaves the audience in disbelief. Hence, Shakespeare uses parallel characters to portray evil, to teach …show more content…
Much Ado About Nothing states,” Any obstacle or barrier to Claudio’s happiness will be like medicine to me. I hate him so much it makes me sick, and whoever can ruin his happiness will make me happy” (II.ii.5). This demonstrates how Don John hates Claudio, and will preclude the marriage from happening . Now why would Don John hate Claudio, since Claudio impeded him from taking over his brother Don Pedro. Furthermore, building on this idea, the repercussions of this would cause hatred and inflict Claudio’s future because Don John would be out for him. Another piece of evidence from Othello states,” You are happy now, but I'll ruin your happiness, no matter how honest you may think I am” (II.i.220). This evidence is relevant considering that this hints at what Iago is capable of doing. For example, when he says” no matter how honest you may think I am”. This leads readers to the plot when Othello does believe Iago is honest because of what he told him about Desdemona. Furthermore, this portrays Iago’s character trait as; since he is doing all this because Cassio got lieutenant while he did not; this would lead him to inflict harm upon Othello. With that being said, characters that are not satisfied with their lives will help shape the plot because of their hatred towards others. However, they are not the only ones helping shape the plot; their are characters that use …show more content…
Othello states,” let's say they hit us, or spitefully cut back on our allowance. Why, we feel resentment, and although we have some grace, we can still have some revenge, too”(IV.iii.100). This proves that Emila is talking about how men will cause harm. but when women are fed up, they will crave for revenge, but what is significant about this is that Emilia is talking about a real-life problem, which is domestic violence. In most cases, women will end up retaliating against the man because they are fed up with the violence. Another piece of evidence from Much Ado About Nothing states,” If he is too insistent, tell him that romance is like a dance: it has its own rhythm, and timing (II.ii.60). This evidence is crucial because it is Beatrice talking to Hero about taking love slow. This is a perpetual problem in a society where people take relationships too fast, and then realize they were not cut out for it. Therefore, causing them heartbreak and pain. As expressed above, this proves how characters like Beatrice and Emilia communicate through real- life problems like domestic violence, and taking on relationships quickly. However, there are characters that are altruistic; however, there are characters that act
Or say they strike us, (...)” (Act IV, Scene 3). She then continues to talk about how just like men, women also have their own desires and their own weaknesses. She claims that it is the man's fault if their wives choose to be unloyal due to the men's neglect of their women and prioritization of
The stories are completely different, but still similar in that way. An overarching theme in Othello was jealousy. Lago set up his whole plan due to his jealousy of Othello and Othello killed his wife because of how jealous he was that she “cheated” on him. In Peace Like a River, Davy kills to protect. The similarity within those differences is the obvious which is they both killed, but it is also similar in why they chose to kill.
In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare uses the characters of Claudio and Beatrice to argue that pride can lead one to not consider others' words or feelings. In Much Ado About Nothing, Claudio and Beatrice are both very proud and protective of their image. This pride leads them to say things to others before they've had a chance to think, and they end up hurting others with what they’ve said. When comparing these two characters, it’s shown that pride can lead one to not consider others’ words or feelings. Beatrice is shown throughout the play to have an immense amount of pride and self-respect.
In the 1600s, William Shakespear wrote a comedy play, Much ado About Nothing. It follows the romantic relationships of two couples: Beatrice and Benedick, Hero and Claudio, all of whom are set up by their close friend Don Pedro. When Don Pedro’s illegitimate brother Don John and his lackey Borachio try to break up Hero and Claudio, Hero’s Father Leonato and the Friar devise a plan to get them back together. By investigating Don John, Don Pedro, and Leonato’s actions, it is clear that the play portrays deception as acceptable as long as it is done with good intentions and results. Dohn John’s deceptive actions have evil intentions and results and are portrayed as unacceptable.
They fell in love with each other at first sight, and couldn’t stop thinking about each other. Right after meeting Hero, Claudio is convinced that he is in love with her, and will marry her. Beatrice and Benedick, however, would describe love as something that doesn’t interest them at all. Beatrice says in the film Much Ado About Nothing that she “would rather hear her dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me.” She
At this point in the play Iago had told Othello just enough to make him start to doubt his relationship with Desdemona. Iago realized that the small details would begin to drive Othello mad and he would believe anything, even if it was not real evidence of a relationship between Desdemona and Cassio. Othello will eventually let the Jealously take over and kill his wife over the lies told by
Cathy Chen Mrs. Weber AP Lit 1 March 2023 Revision In the play, Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, Don John is the half-brother of Don Pedro and shows his hatred toward Don Pedro. To illustrate the character the author then uses diction, figurative speech like metaphors, and anaphora to form and develop Don John’s character as a dark, mischievous person, revealing his thoughts and showing that he is also miserable because of his relationship with Don Pedro. Additionally, Shakespeare uses Don John to illustrate the idea of deception, appearance versus reality as he is deceiving the character and himself.
In the beginning of Much Ado About Nothing Benedick and Beatrice are strong-willed people who fear falling in love will lead to heartbreak. This cause them to deny their affections towards each other. This then causes the other characters to interfere in their love life. Another, example of manipulation is when Hero and Claudio's love for each other is torn apart by the deviousness of Don John's actions For Instance, Claudio, Don Pedro, and Leonato plan to trick
Only the truest love can survive the trials of the gruesome world. In William Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing, two sets of lovers attempt to brave the sea of love. Claudio and Hero’s affection quivers through their various trials. Although the play is a comedy, it also consists of solemn moments. For instance, the couple’s love is put to the test when Claudio convicts Hero of being unchaste.
Othello starts to believe Iago’s lies about his friends and wife, leading Othello to change his behavior towards his closest allies. Iago instigates a fight between Cassio and Montano, and Othello must take charge of his soldiers, he says: Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter, Making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee But never more be officer of mine. (2.3.210-213) Othello makes the decision to fire Cassio, and things get worse when Iago makes his wife, Emilia, steal Desdemona 's handkerchief.
To Othello, Iago is more reputable now causing Iago is, at this point, reputable, meaning Othello will to believe anything that Iago says even if it is a lie. Iago’s psychopathic manipulations of Cassio then ultimately cause his downfall once Othello discovers that Iago has been dishonest, his punishment of torture and imprisonment at the end of the play is his downfall. Iago’s Throughout the play, since Iago is trustworthy to Othello, Iago plants seeds of jealousy in Othello’s mind. In Act Five, scene two, Othello shows the audience how he believes that Iago is “most honest” (Shakespeare 1302).

Beatrice had also tried to write a poem professing her love to Benedick. They are so compatible that they had the same idea to profess their love. In Shakespearian times, the man could just choose a wife to marry, they did not have to be compatible. In a modern context, people in relationships have to be compatible, making Beatrice and Benedick an ideal
As the characters are fighting for honor, hatred is another theme that is highlighted in these pieces of literature. In Much Ado About Nothing, the characters are getting ready to get married, and hatred overwhelms Claudio into making irrational decisions. Claudio just rejected Hero and he pushes her to the ground. Hero is confused because she thought she would be happily married, but Hero does not know that Claudio thinks she lost her virginity the night before to someone
In Act 4, Iago lies to Othello saying,“What if I had said I had seen him do you wrong?” convincing Othello of Desdemona and Cassio’s affair (4.1.24). Iago knows Othello’s jealousy overwhelms him at the thought of Cassio and Desdemona, giving Iago control over Othello’s emotions and
