Authors use symbols to help the readers understand themes. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the theme present is that societies need some kind of social order to live in peace.

We cannot differentiate, we cannot prioritize, and we cannot make good choices…” This is a quote recited by John Sununu. In books, we must be able to compare and contrast the difference between one sequence from the other; from one context to the next.

In the novels Fahrenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies, the parallelism in both novels traces through events that occurred during the Cold War that were reflected in the novels to help emphasize the evils of humanity. The Cold War began in the 1950’s, the same time as both novels were written, and was between the United States and the Soviet Union due to the fight of the communist Soviets and the capitalist United States. “Americans had long been wary of Soviet communism and concerned about Russian leader Joseph Stalin’s tyrannical, blood-thirsty rule of his own country.”(Cold War History, n.pag). The two countries’ fight caused an arms race, which created a growing fear, especially in the US, of who was going to be annihilated first.

In the book Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the boys started a signal fire that became a larger fire, tearing the island apart. A group of British schoolboys was on a flight in order to escape the next world war. Their flight crashed onto an abandoned island and all the adults died, including the pilot. This left a group of young boys on an uninhabited island alone. The boys, not knowing what to do, voted to elect a “chief” of the island.

“Maybe there is a beast… maybe it's only us”(89). In the beginning of the novel, a group of boys are stranded on an island without adults. They obey the regulations and rules set by the chief, Ralph. Ralph and Piggy find a conch shell that is used to call the boys to gather around for a meeting, which represents civilized environment created by Ralph. The boys turn into savages when Jack becomes absorbed with the thought of hunting and paints his face to disguise in the jungle.

Conflict is inevitable and peace is unreached. No matter how hard one tries there will always be conflict and that is shown in these books. In William Golding’s 1954 novel, Lord of The Flies Ralph and a crew of boys crash onto an island seeking to be saved but eventually make a community similarly in Susan Elliot Hinton’s The Outsiders novel from 1956 Ponyboy and his gang go through many afflictions. Both works assert that conflict should be resolved by non-violent means.

Imagine a world with no rules or laws? How would humanity behave if we could do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, because there were no consequences for our actions? In the novel Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding illustrates if we lived our lives in this way, humanity could easily revert back to savage ways. The book tells the story of a group of British boys who are stranded on an uninhabited island, they attempt to form a stable government. It all falls to pieces when a group of boys start caring more about fun than surviving.

Often in literature, comparing stories will lead to revelations about human nature. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games both share a motif of being trapped and take human nature to another level. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games prove that working together and looking out for each other will give you a greater shot at victory. One very significant similarity is that in both books the characters are trapped on an island and fighting for their safety and survival. In Lord of the Flies, school boys, Ralph, Roger, Simeon, Piggy, Jack and along with other kids are trapped on an island and have to fight for survival, but, after a while of being on the island the civilization starts to die and so do the boys from violence and lack of communication.

Both Lord of the Flies and Mean Girls are about the evil found within people, and they both contain similarities in symbolism and characterization;however, these stories contain several differences with the plot and setting. Some similarities in Lord of the Flies and Mean Girls are found when comparing the symbolism and characterization.

In Lord of the Flies there were a lot of similarities and differences from the book to the movie. In the beginning of the book the boy’s plane crashed into a body of water and the pilot dies but, in the movie the pilot is alive but is severely injured. In both the movie and the book Piggy finds the conch and has Ralph blow it, due to his asthma. When on the island in both the book and the movie Jack was mean to Piggy and whipped some of the little un's.

Born into an environment where his mother was a suffragette and later experiencing World War II where human ruthlessness was at its peak, made him better inclined in to writing a piece where he could explain his readers how human beings react in different situations. The setting of the novel depicts a situation where the human behavior is rational. The novel hence persuades the readers to realize the importance of ethics and civilization and how their absence can disrupt the society .Furthermore, the novel shows a negative aspect of the mankind and explains the reason it develops savagery
