John Fitzgerald Kennedy and King Arthur. What do these two have in common? At a glance, it seems like not much, but if you look deeper there is more than you know. John F. Kennedy was an American president in the 1960’s, and brought about many important changes to the system and provided more safety nets for people. King Arthur was a man who became king, strong, good looking, and lead his people wisely. John F. Kennedy was seen as a force of change in the presidential election, and is considered one of the youngest presidents to ever be in office, and was a beacon of hope for many. Kennedy was King Arthur. Jacqueline Kennedy was a kind, moral human being, who actually was the first one to use the idea of Camelot to describe the Kennedy administration. “Don’t let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief, shining moment, that was known as Camelot.” (Jacqueline Kennedy, 1969) “The King with the Hundred Knights met a wonder dream two nights afore the battle, that there blew a great wind, and blew down their castles and their towns, and after that came a water and bare it all away.”(Le Morte D’Arthur, 1485) During JFK’s presidency, The Cold War was in full swing. Cuba was threatening to send missiles our way. Kennedy had to deal with the possibility of war, but JFK died before anything happened. This might be more the reason why JFK and his presidency is considered to be like Camelot.
