Love is a choice, a feeling, a kind of belief and a kind of responsibility. I get this thesis from two different places. In the movie “Beauty and the Beast” and the novel “Phantom of the Opera,” we can see this theme when we analyze the similarities and differences between the characters of the Beast and Erik, and Belle and Christine. In the movie “Beauty and the Beast”, the Beast choice Belle, he do not choice any other girls. He just loves Belle. Why? Maybe because of Belle is very beauty, but it isn’t all. She is kind, friendly, brave and vivacious. The beast is self-abasement; he feared that she may be repulsed by his ugliness and run away. Fortunately, Belle do not repulsed him, she just afraid of the Beast. In the beginning, the Beast’s temperament is very bad; he is irritable and easy to angry. If they have something that the Beast does not want to do, he will very angry and bellow. “There’s a stranger here! Who let him in? You have all betrayed me! Who are you? What are you doing in my castle? You’re not welcome here! I am hideous aren’t I? You’ve come to see the Beast, haven’t you? I’ll give you a place to stay!” Belle runs away. Although the Beast and Belle has a commitment about Belle must replace her father to stay there forever, she still run away. Then Belle has a big problem. So many wolfs! Wolfs will kill her. Zhang 2 However, the beast risks his life to save Belle. His arms are injured and faint because of excessive bleeding. Trousdale, Beauty and the
This is because a couple of things first, his physical characteristics. Everyone including the monster knew how ugly he was “As soon as he beheld my form, he place his hands before his eyes and uttered a shrill scream” (Shelley 153). This leads to people always thinking that he is doing something bad because he is a monster. For example when The Monster was saving the little girl the man that was with her though he was attacking her so he shot him in the shoulder. This makes him feel that he cant find a purpose in his life that because nobody will ever accept him he will never know what to do with his life.
From that time forward she had hated me! To get back at me, Maleficent casted a spell on Mickey and all of the other heroes. She thought to herself that she would then become my favorite. That was not the case, I needed a plan to break the curse. After thinking for a long time, I finally had an idea.
Although he claims he just wants to protect the village, he is angry that Belle could love such an ugly creature and not him. He wants revenge and thinks that killing the Beast will prove his adequacy, revealing his character’s narcissism and constant need for reassurance. Violence is personal, and being aware of this aids the reader so that they can realize a character’s motive and understand what that says about
At the critical moment, the beast injured and rescued Belle. He became moral and his humanity moved Belle deeply. She helped him to change, looked after him, and had innermost feelings on him. The beast turned back into the prince
He felt so much hatred towards himself because the townspeople thought he was this great man and they praised him, while they were being deceived and lied to. His views of puritanism were almost like a pestilence that will never go away, and would always
It was very uncommon for the monster to exist in the world because no one would think Frankenstein's experiment was possible (“Mary”). Since the monster gained a personality and a sense of feeling, he expresses his feelings through actions and other influences. “Treat a person ill, and he will become wicked...divide him, a social being, from society, and you impose upon him the irresistible obligations- malevolence and selfishness” (“Mary” 27). If you treat someone badly, they will become the person you made them to be. The monster was bullied by the people just for the way he looks and later made him a bully to the humans.
He was formed through behavioral views and experiences due to the lack of education and learning the morals of society. To society standards his physical appearance was not accepted and created a feeling of confusion within the monster causing him hateful feelings towards humans after being shown cruel actions. He received constant judgment and rejection due to his appearance, "His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of pearly whiteness; but these luxuriance 's only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same color as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shriveled complexion and straight black lips" (Shelley, 58), yet the monster did not have any opinion of his own self but what was given from Victor and the society. The creation refused to continue to let this happen and reacted with anger, just like anyone other human would. The confusion and rage continues for the monster when society treats him with cruelty after meeting a family in the wilderness and they run away from him.
Some people are quick to draw conclusions, but life is not always that simple. Rapunzel, for instance, spent many years imprisoned in the castle but never gave up. She got banished into a desert to find the prince and went back to her tower, the Witch saw them in the tower but, her powers stopped working and Rapunzel was able to run away from the evil witch. It just shows even in the worst of the worst situations you must remain courageous and calm. Rapunzel is a great example of the modern-day era because if the audience do not get something they want they lose their composure but she shows us that time will come you just need to have patience and be ready to face any challenge that comes your
The blatant rejection of the monster in Frankenstein highlights the characters flawed understanding of humanity. The novel suggests that humanity is not just about physical appearance, but also about one's actions, emotions, and intentions. The monster, despite his looks, possesses human-like qualities such as the ability to feel emotions like love and anger. When the monster first confronts Frankenstein, he says, "I am thy creature, and I will be even mild and docile to my natural lord and king if thou wilt also perform thy part, the which thou owest me" (Shelley 90).
The Creature even recognizes the fact that he is hated and wants Walton and Victor to know that he loathes himself for both his actions and his appearance even more. “You hate me, but your abhorrence cannot equal that with which I regard myself.”
"Love is like a pineapple, sweet and undefinable," -Piet Hein. In the common literature Romeo and Juliet, "My Shakespeare", and "Love's Vocabulary," they all share the same objective of attempting to define love. By using paradox, allusion and figuritive language, William Shakespeare, Kate Tempest and Diane Ackerman show how love is undefinable. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses paradox to define love.
“For in my dark despair I've slowly understood My perfect world out there Had disappeared for good But in its place I feel A truer life begin And it’s so good and real it must come from within” (Beauty, A Change In Me). She has given up her life behind to help her father and make sure he did not die in the cell Beast had him in. After being traded the cell for a nicer room, Beast demands that Belle has dinner with him, hoping a relationship could
When an individual thinks about the concept of love, positive thoughts come to mind such as affection, romance, and passion. Love is usually not associated with the negative possible outcomes. Love is often an important part of a story; it builds up excitement and gets the plot going. In William Shakespeare 's Hamlet and Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, the emotion of love is portrayed to drive a character insane.
This shows that the girls still possess their animal instinct, but are overpowered with the strong sense of curiosity to the life that the humans live. Claudette even mentions that they had forgotten “the barked cautions of [their] mothers
He genuinely cannot stand the sight of the creature. If there was a person who should be able to overcome the creature’s physical presence, it is Victor. Not only is Victor the creator, but he also put so much of his own time and effort into the creature. But the creature’s body is too hideous.
