Colin Powell once said,”A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” These are important because one should work hard to get what they want. High school athletes should have to keep a certain GPA in order to play sports. This will help them balance and prioritize their schedules, motivate them to keep their grades up, and remind them of their priorities at school.
If athletes learn to properly proportion their schedules, then they’ll know how much time they need to get their homework done and will be aware of how much time they have for sports. This will allow them to get out of practice early, if needed. It will also give them enough time to get their work done, which will help them keep up in both school and sports. That way, they can do what they love and have able grades along with it.
Furthermore, having to keep a certain GPA will inspire athletes to keep their

Jennifer Gennrich always says,”School comes first.” This means that before doing any extracurricular activities, including sports, getting homework done is number one. So in order to play sports, pupils will have to keep their grades up and turn their homework in. In general, it will keep adolescents up on their homework, which increases their grade. And students can finally realize how important it is to keep up in class.
So overall, keeping a certain GPA for sports is important. It teaches student athletes to prioritize certain activities so they keep up, and it motivates them to keep their homework in, which will keep their grades up. Also, it helps them balance their schedules. If we use this method in schools, it will keep athletes on track with assignments. This will motivate them to do their homework, give them a reason to study, and therefore keep their grades up. This can help players do better in
If a student athlete’s grades start to decrease, they could be kicked off of their sports team until they bring up their grades again. According to the article, 12 Primary Pros and Cons of Paying College Athletes, it states, “Coupled with creating fair standards for compensation, education should be prioritized for these college athletes.” This quote from the article means that the student athletes need to make sure they are focusing in school and getting good grades so that they can continue to play their sports. If not, the penalties for the lowering of grades may be
Many kids that attend sports will miss classes so they can play sports. Kids could miss important work and classes to play sports. They could miss important tests. However kids will not get enough sleep if school starts early in the day.
Academics are important especially to athletes that have minimum study time. Giving the players extra classes can give players the academics that they will need. The players can take extra classes in the summer during the offseason. If the players take extra classes in the summer there will not be any games to worry about. This will give them an advantage to get ahead before the possibility of extra games at the end.
Players have to reach a certain grade point average to continue playing the game, this has made players motivated to keep up good grades or else there will be consequences. The athletes learn the “3 P’s” from football persistence, patience, and practice. Plays learn to work through difficult situations, learn to work hard and get rewarded, and sacrificing things like social time in order to practice and get somewhere later in life. Many participants of high school football come together to study or do homework, encouraging them to bond and have a good relationship with their
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
Students can balance school and sports, they just need to find the balance first. Coaches will understand the stress the students are under, that if they get a failing average they’ll temporarily be kicked off the team. The no pass, no play rule adds even more stress onto these students. Various staff members are in charge of making sure students don’t fail. “Administrators have to implement board policy.
College athletes are required to keep up with a certain GPA and have to take so many credits each semester to be eligible to play that particular sport. The athletes are being pushed more than a student that isn’t in a sport. Students who aren’t in a sport don’t have to worry as much about making sure their grades are constantly up and staying eligible for something. If the player is not keeping up with that end of the deal than they can suffer the consequences like not being able to play a certain amount of games or even being kicked off the team. These athletes have a lot at stake when they go to
On a day-to-day basis student athletes are required to maintain a healthy balance between their respective sport and their schoolwork, which is difficult. A typical student-athlete schedule includes waking up early, attending classes, going to practice, lifting,
If they have failing grades as well, the colleges are sending their students into the world without a real chance at becoming professional athletes, and without an actual education. In the end, they will be left unprepared for life. My first reason I believe athletes with bad grades shouldn’t play sports
If you have ever been in sports or school athletics, act fast! Schools are getting rid of their sports and we need to stop it. “Being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school.
Athletes would are (doesn’t make sense) there just to play sports and don’t care about their degree, it wouldn’t matter how they preform in school because they are being paid. Most athletes who are playing are already receiving some sort of compensation in scholarships and grants. College athletes are not employees in the eyes of the school, they are students who “just happen to be playing sports” (Cooper 12). College athletes put too much pressure on their athletic career, when they should put the pressure on getting a degree and a
This would be not fair to hard-working students who cannot afford college and rely on scholarships and aid. Unfortunately, athletes focus more on performance than on academics, and scholarship money may go to
This teaches both good work ethic and responsibility because these individuals learn how to productively manage their time. Time management is an essential part of being successful. Exceptional athletes would rather be an hour early than a minute late. This greater supports the argument because down the road this could just as easily be a job interview and because of the habits that have been acculturated through playing sports, they will make a good impression and most likely beat out their competitor. Professional writer, researcher, and lecturer Michael Casey conducted two studies and concluded that “Past participation in high school sports helps youngsters develop a host of crucial skills which give them a leg up as they enter the work world and achieve success for decades afterward” (Casey).
The student will be more focused on school, knowing that if they don't work hard they may be kicked off the team. Schoolwork always comes first, but coaches and peers may pressure the student athletes into spending more time with their extra circulars, when they should be worrying about school. This may cause students to realize when they need to take a day off of sports, and spend a little time hitting the books. A motivated student is a better student, and this requirement will give the students the motivation they need to be a successful student, and a successful
I have loved competition ever since a young age. I have several friends that I love to compete with. We compete everyday, whether it is sports or if it in school games. We have been competing for as long as I can remember. Although my friends and I believe that competition is a great thing at school, some parents and schools are trying to argue that we should remove competition from school.
