The story of the human race is one of humble beginnings. From caves, to space stations orbiting Earth, many questions were asked and many discoveries were made. But what drove these great minds and what lead to the discoveries that would change the course of our species’ history? It was the thirst for knowledge of the universe around them, a thirst that could only be quenched by science. Science cured polio in the 50’s and flew us to the moon in the late 60’s. Ultimately, these feats will pale in comparison to what future generations will do. However, there are some who disagree with this notion, and feel that we do not need science in our public education system, but instead should bring about creationism and religion in place of science in public schools. To illustrate, a recent poll conducted by prominent American research-based, global performance-management consulting company Gallup in 2014, suggest that nearly 20% of Americans believe that creationism should be taught in public schools. One experiment correlated people’s religious belief and their scores on a popular analytic thinking quiz with deceptively simple math questions. found that getting people to think analytically and critically, even in subtle ways, will weaken the strength of their beliefs.
