The War of 1812 The War of 1812 is also known as the “second war of independence”. The United States fought against Great Britain from 1812 to 1815. When the United State went to war with Great Britain, they were already in war with France and the United States had many defeats that cost much that laid in the hands of the British. Overlooking the war, the United States had won when each country signed the Treaty of Ghent, which was an agreement contract. The War had began on June 18th, 1812, when the United States went to war with Great Britain.The war had begun for multiple reasons, the British wanted to try to restrict trade with America, America’s desire to want to try and expand the territory of their country into Canada, also US soldiers were forced to serve British Navy ships and each country wanted to settle things with a war. Multiple battles were fought throughout the war. The United States engaged about 286,730 soldiers into the war, when we had about 2,260 americans die and 4,405 soldiers were wounded. One of the battles was The Battle of Plattsburg which took place on September 11, 1814 in Plattsburg, New York. When a british army entered into the US territory by entering through Canada and down through New York to Plattsburg. Each country fought against each other although the British had surrendered and the British troops returned to Canada. Another battle fought was the Battle of Baltimore and Siege of Fort McHenry on September 13th and 14th, 1814 at Baltimore, Maryland. The American force had around 1,000 soldiers and the British force had about 5,000 soldiers. The British troops had thought that the vital port city was the support of many American ships that were preying on their shipping, surprisingly the United States had won against Britain in the battle.
