There are also many characteristics that can come with being a self made man that F. Scott Fitzgerald discusses in The Great Gatsby. “He talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. ”(59) Gatsby was smart, this being one of the causes or one of the effects of being a self made man. He was smart because he needed to be in order to be able to make himself money and popularity, and he became more smart because of his experiences of being a self made man.
