Scholarship Essay: My Favorite Subject In School

“Forceps, please.” He made a waving gesture with his hand from across the table. “Now.” I snapped out of my daze. The bright lights were blinding and I was sweating through my gloves.

In my four years of high school, I have been very active in everything the school has to offer. I have filled up my after school hours playing sports, performing in plays and choral concerts, and working at the school to help teach the younger generations Language Arts. During my summers, I volunteer at summer school to assist in the math classes for middle school and high schoolers while I also have a job being a lifeguard. Basketball, softball, and golf are the sports that I’ve played over my high school career. I’ve participated in four years of basketball and softball, and three years in golf.

Why I Chose My Major I chose Criminal Justice for my major because it’s appealing to me. As a child I looked up to police, and I was never scared to go up to them and just start asking questions and everyone I asked was always willing to talk back and knowing they did not even had to pay any mind to me at all being that I was so little to even know how the system worked but they did their best to explain it to me. One Police officer in particular I really looked up to Mr. Brad Garafola. He was a close family friend him and my dad grew up together. He was our neighborhood cop; he stopped by, while on patrol, at house to visit at least once a week to check up on us.

In “Is Your Child Ready For College Math?” the author builds an argument that many students may not be prepared with the mathematics skills to be college or career ready. The author uses reasons such as the fact that students may have taken insufficient mathematics courses; that they may have taken the wrong courses, or that students have not mastered the skills required to be college and/or career ready. The author provides supporting evidence from the text and compelling word choices to strengthen the logic and persuasiveness of his argument.

From a young age, my passion lay in my utter fascination with numbers and mathematical concepts. Whether I recalled sport stats or my teammates’ swim times to adding the total for the groceries we were purchasing, math has always been in my blood. Math problems are puzzles that need to be cracked, especially in calculus, with challenging and intriguing

College is a big decision in one’s life, especially as a senior in high school. Students are expected to go to college to gain further knowledge in the career path they have chosen. Amanda Baratz, for example, is a freshman at Kehillah Jewish High School in San Jose, California. The summer after her freshman year, she will fly to Georgetown University for a five week course about medical careers. She hopes to see an open heart surgery while she is there.

My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.

This semester has been an ongoing challenge for me but has been an enjoyable one and I have not been presented with any impossible tasks. I have never been much of a writer, and during the course of this semester, I 've struggled to meet length requirements on the assigned essays. However, I do understand that not everyone is an excellent writer or even has to enjoy writing to get a good grade in this 1A class. From the start, with the first essay, I pushed myself to do my best and looked to multiple outlets to polish my writing, such as the online tutor, the writing center, the internet and the writer 's handbook.

I have attended Front Range Community College for the past 3 years. Before attending this school, I had no purpose and no direction in life. The prime reason for not attending college was out of fear of failure. I had previously registered with the school in 2010, but did not register for any courses. In the same year, I had been diagnosed with PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder), and had sought help with a local Veterans Affair clinic.

Mathematics is elegant, and simple; you just have to stick with it to see it. That night, I called my cousin, and gushed to her--I could hear her smile through the phone. Someone finally got it. Pure math isn’t pretentious, useless nonsense, it’s art for art’s sake.

My Life Story Growing up, I’ve survived many experiences in my life. I’ve seen both sides of the field, the good and the bad. When I was younger, I didn’t understand how important life really was. That’s because I didn’t have main motivators to motivate me to push myself to do right. I didn’t have anyone to talk to me and guide me down the right path.

It also has a lot of extensive laboratory work which is a key aspect of psychology, which has allowed me to hone my practical skills to a high level of precision. This in turn will help me conduct research for my dissertation as well as any further research. By studying Maths, it has allowed me to develop analytical and problem solving skills. There are various ways of solving a mathematical problem, however each method has its pros and cons, which I believe relates to how there are various approaches to psychological disorders and that different approaches have its strengths and disadvantages.

I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.

Part B Introduction The importance of Geometry Children need a wealth of practical and creative experiences in solving mathematical problems. Mathematics education is aimed at children being able to make connections between mathematics and daily activities; it is about acquiring basic skills, whilst forming an understanding of mathematical language and applying that language to practical situations. Mathematics also enables students to search for simple connections, patterns, structures and rules whilst describing and investigating strategies. Geometry is important as Booker, Bond, Sparrow and Swan (2010, p. 394) foresee as it allows children the prospect to engage in geometry through enquiring and investigation whilst enhancing mathematical thinking, this thinking encourages students to form connections with other key areas associated with mathematics and builds upon students abilities helping students reflect

Having the knowledge and basic skills of mathematics enables a person to make personal and economic decisions in everyday life. A person can still succeed without achieving
