Salvador Dialectical Journal Analysis

Title: A Long Way Gone Author: Ishmael Beah Page range: 16 Entry #1: “We must strive to be like the moon” In this quote Ishmael Beah, the narrator, is speaking from Khalilou’s house (Ishmael’s friend) in Mattru Jong. Ishmael and his brother Junior were just returning before the rebels attacked their town, Mogbwemo.

IN THE BEGINNING The year is 3069. Dr. Smith and her husband are both marine biologists studying mutations in rats at their secluded science center, Murinae Labs, located on the distant island, Corsica. However, one tragic day, a hurricane crossed paths with Corsica Island, destroying the research center. Snatched by the storm, all of the 300 experimentation rats housed inside survived.

I am speechless at what is happening in this book. Tita knew of the consequences from the beginning. Good thing that she actually isn’t pregnant. I think that Mama Elena’s spirit was trying to warn Tita of the bad things that she was doing, but Tita wasn’t interested in hearing what she had to say. If Gertrudis wasn’t there, I don’t think Pedro would’ve ever found out that Tita was expecting his child.

Starting with the first poem, TKAM can relate to this because it is similar to how Jem and Scout would walk to home from school. The first section states how the writer can remember calling their mother from the hall in the basement. This gives me an image of Scout or Jem calling Atticus. Sections two through 4 basically just gives an imagery of Scout, Jem, and occasionally Dill walking to their house. The final section stands out though because in the book, Scout does explain how her and Jem did walk home from school during winter.

In the book Crescendo there are lots of twists and turns. In the story Nora is hanging out with Scott more and more. Patch tries to warn her that something is going to happen. Since the archangels are watching Nora and Patch closely, they can’t talk to each other out in the open. Patch figures out how to talk to Nora in her dream.

The unnamed narrator of the story discovers from a newspaper that his younger brother, Sonny, has been arrested for selling and using heroin. As he prepares to teach his algebra class, the narrator remembers Sonny as a young boy. His students, he realizes, could someday end up like Sonny, given the obstacles and hardships they face growing up in Harlem. At the end of the school day, the narrator heads home, but he notices that one of Sonny’s old friends, who is always high and dirty, is waiting for him by the school. The two men walk together, talking about Sonny.

A few months pass by in what seems like the blink of an eye. People come and go, to check on them and their classmates and sometimes they tell them what happens in the world they seem to have left behind. Kuzuryuu only half-listens, he has to admit. Not because he doesn’t care, because he does and he knows that he should, seeing how most of it it’s fault, too.

Chapter One Sebastian closed his eyes and exhaled heavily as he stood in front of the window. A large crowd had gathered, all waving signs and banners with pure hatred in their eyes. Threats poured out of their open mouths while they glared at the house where Remington, Sebastian and Emerson currently resided. “They’re still there,” Sebastian muttered. All he wanted was a normal and peaceful life, or at least as much of a normal life as he could get while touring around the world but his life had crashed down around him.

Quickwrite #1- AQWF In this part of the book, Paul and his friends are out on the front re-wiring the front line with new barbed and communication wires when they hear the shrill cries of injured and badly wounded horses. Additionally, during the bombing, one of their soldiers becomes badly wounded in his leg and will most likely die or never be able to walk again. There is a similarity between this young soldier and the injured horses, made apparent by the comparison the author makes between the two. The young soldier, while human, is helpless after getting injured and will likely die if he is not helped soon.

Following the context of the pervious verse Paul is obviously talking about the eternal things which He looks to. And there is a clear contrast going on through these passages. But what is Paul talking about when he says we are in a ἡ ἐπίγειος οἰκία τοῦ σκήνους, and looking forward to a οἰκοδομὴν ἐκ θεοῦ ἔχομεν, οἰκίαν ἀχειροποίητον αἰώνιον ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς? Looking at the terms Paul used we can see the resurrection being describe. The first term that he employs is a “tent” (οἰκία τοῦ σκήνους).

1. The author wants the reader to have empathy or understand where he’s coming from. The author states “You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat.” He tries to justify his future crime and wants the readers to understand.
