Throughout the 1940s and 50s America was overwhelmed with concerns about the threat of communism growing in eastern Europe and China. Paranoia ensued. Salem was established as a religious community in the midst of evil. The people of Salem considered the forest the domain of the devil, and as you could guess, they were surrounded by it; Paranoia ensued

In 1692, as the puritans of Salem Massachusetts over-turn on each other, they started scapegoating many of their villagers with witchcraft. During this time many were murdered unfairly. The Salem Witch Trials was a reformation of the government. People believed that this was an era where the devil gave certain humans powers to harm others in joining them into their beliefs. It was certain to happen, because many had personal envy which caused many of the accusations,trials, and the implementations.

What Caused the Salem Witch Trial Hysteria of 1692? The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 were a large source of chaos for the small town that ruined the lives for people and their families. During this time many innocent people were accused of witchcraft and were thrown in jail while some were even hanged. It was a terrible event in history that was caused by jealousy, town division, and young girls.

It is blatantly obvious that poor little Betty is just putting on an act. I am in awe knowing that the naive townspeople actually believe this nonsense. Their mouth’s speak such nonsense such as, “ I saw Betty flying over the barn last night” . Meanwhile, my uncle is interrogating me non stop, speaking about how i have blush on my name. Opening Statement: Prosecutor May it please the court, counsel, members of the jury: this is a case of murder, involuntary murder. We are all here today to bring justice to the state of Massachusetts. What you are about to hear may stun you. We are gathered here today to charge Abigail Williams with involuntary manslaughter.

In a matter of time five people were hanged in July. One was Rebecca Nurse. Her execution was a pivotal moment in Salem Witch Trials. Nurse was a well-respected and well-loved member of the community. When first arrested the community signed a petition for her release.

Many young people today are unaware that the Salem Witch Trial occurred. Some people like to believe that it was a hoax created by the government. Alex Jones was a famous conspiracy theorist who has played a big part in convincing many people that the Salem Witch Trial was a ruse to scare the population. People now get all of their information off of non-credible sites and social media. People don’t bother to look for the true facts and only hear what they want to.

One's moral compass is diminished during times of collective mob mentality, this causes many to wonder if conforming to a herd is subliminal or subjective. The town of Salem rose to chaos in the witch trials as the truth of devil affiliation was based on the accusations made by those falling ill to mob mentality in search for acceptance, empowerment, trust in the majority, and collective fear. Mob mentality held capture over the town of Salem as fear ripped through the hearts and families within the community. Conforming to the mob caused social Validation and personal power advancements, but refusing to do so ostracized the individual.

Salem, Massachusetts, USA and occurred between February 1692 and May 1693. Over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned and even more accused; but not pursued by the authorities. 29 were convicted of witchcraft but only 19 were hanged. The best known trials were in the Court of Oyer and Terminer.

The era of witch trials has come to an end. The last living witch was hanged in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Despite the fact that there's no proof that witches were actually hunted down and killed by people wearing pointy hats and carrying pitchforks, many people still believe that witches were real and that they could be banished from their homes by burning them alive at the stake. The Witch Trials were a series of events that took place in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Abigail was caught by Parris while she was dancing in the woods but she lies about it so she avoids any trouble. Parris thought that he had saw someone naked running through the woods but he wasn’t sure about it so he questioned abigail about it. She responds to him by saying, “ No one was naked!

The Salem witch trial hysteria of 1692 may have been instigated by religious, social, geographic and even biological factors. During these trials, 134 people were condemned as witches and 19 were hanged. These statistics also include 5 more deaths that occurred prior to their execution date. It is interesting to look into the causes of this stain on American History, when as shown in document B, eight citizens were hanged in only one day.

Abigail Williams will lie about anything to cover up her affair with John Proctor whom she tells, “I know how you clutched by back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I came near” (1.1.548-550). By looking at The Crucible, one can see that Abigail Williams develops the theme of reputation, which is important because people who fear losing their reputation spread hysteria. Reputation motivates Abigail Williams to accuse others of being a witch. Abigail lied to betty and said that she “told [Parris] everything (1.1.442-443); however, she didn’t tell him how she drunk blood to kill Elizabeth. She doesn’t want the other girls to say anything about what happened in the woods.
