Costume: The dress was made with deerskin material along with the boots that were made with animal fur. The apparels during the late 1700’s was hand-made by using skins from the animal herds in their tribe. Because the Shoshone women were gatherers, protected the horses, collected wood to make fire, and arranged the teepees, their status was low and were treated with little respect in the Lemhi-Shoshone society. Sacagawea’s childhood in the Shoshone village near the Lemhi valley contributed mainly to patriarchal society which allowed her to gain special techniques to maintain her own livelihood.

In 1805, Sacagawea went into labor which Lewis assisted. He later reported that her delivery was difficult due to unsanitary conditions, but the baby and Sacagawea became members of the Corps of Discovery, a group which took the Lewis and Clark expedition. Sacagawea is a Shoshone Indian who helped navigate during the Lewis and Clark expedition. Her name means “Bird Woman’’ in Shoshone and “Boat Launcher’’ in Hidatsa. Sacagawea was born in 1788 Lemhi County, Idaho. Sacagawea is the daughter of the Shoshone chief. She not only helped navigate around the wilderness, but she was a good spokesperson between the Native Americans and explorers.

On May 14, 1804, Captain Meriwether Lewis and Co-Captain William Clark as well as forty-three other members consisting of brave soldiers, slaves, and interpreters set out to discover what was in the newly bought land from the recent Louisiana Purchase. This expedition would later be called the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Lewis and Clark expedition was a frontier in history because it found new information on plants and animals, developed a better understanding of native American tribes, and assisted in mapping out the newly purchased land from the Louisiana Purchase. The Lewis and Clark expedition was a journey undertaken by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in the early 1800s.
Many people have filled books with the vast knowledge of her accomplishments. Sacagawea was a strong woman that had many leadership and survival skills. When she was 15 or 16 she joined an expedition the would change her life. While on the 1 ½ year long journey she had helped lead and navigate through the wilderness not yet discovered. A quote from an article states, "She guided them and remembered helpful details about topography through the expedition."
The Lewis and Clarke Expedition took place in 1804 and lasted two years. Explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, led this expedition in order to gather information on new territory that was yet to be explored. Appointed by James Monroe, Lewis and Clark made their journey through the American interior to the Pacific Northwest. On their way there, they ran into two interpreters that aided them along the way: Sacagawea and Toussaint Charbonneau. Accompanied by these two individuals, Lewis and Clark were able to make a successful trip back to their town and publish the journals that they documented during this trip.
She was captured when she was young on a hunting trip and raised by the Hudatsa. Sacagawea played an extremely important role in helping Lewis and Clark translate, navigate, and survive. She knew the layout, the foods, the animals, and the language of the land. Sacagawea quickly became Lewis and Clarks most useful source on their expedition though the Louisiana territory. Along their expedition, Lewis and Clark run into hunters of the Shoshone tribe and think they are going to get killed where they stand, but it just so happens one of the hunters is Sacagawea’s brother.
To many people it is a strong belief the Lewis and Clark expedition was a threat against the american indians and wildlife and caused the start of their removal, but I believe that what happened to the american indians had to happen in order to expand our country. Pearl Carter Scott is well known for becoming the first Chickasaw aviator and the youngest flyer in the United States. June of 1930 she was granted her Student pilots permit by the Aeronautics Branch of the United States Department of Commerce. Pearl Scott was a big encouragement to Native American women rights. (Lambert 50). Pearl Scott began staring in special events such as: devotions of new roads or flying circuses, airports, and other events invited Pearl Scott to bring her famous Curtiss Robin and be a guest of honor.
As she fed them so they would gain there energy to continue their journey along the Missouri river. Sacagawea died at the age of 24 not certain for the circumstances of her death. She named a chief of commence tribes died in her Shoshone tribe. Clark invited them to move with them to Missouri in1809, he then enrolled her son in a boarding school she was more than happy. He was to be educated like a white man.

The Shoshone was a Native American tribe in the western Great Basin in the United States. This tribe was spread into the north and east Idaho and Wyoming. The Shoshone religion was Shoshone rituals. Their population was approximately 8000 members at first, but their population began to increase about 20,000 members. There were three classes in Shoshone tribe, which were the chief and shaman, trading partners, and the servants.
