In Anthem by Ayn Rand, the city has numerous rules and controls. Some examples of these rules and controls are the people around the world were not allowed to talk about the “unmentionable times”, they are not allowed to refer to oneself as I, there are no mirrors so they are not allowed to see their own reflections. They are not allowed to complement each other on the way they look, they have to follow the bell, when the bell rings they have to wake up and start their daily routines and the bell rings when they should start or finish something. They are not allowed to pick their job or wish for a better one and they are not allowed to study or invent things unless they were chosen to be in the house of scholars. The rules were put in place
