The man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting of an Auburn officer is dead after a standoff. WATCH LIVE: FOX25 News at 10 An Auburn police officer, Ronald Tarentino, was rushed to the hospital after getting shot early Sunday morning during a traffic stop. A neighbor who heard the gunfire said she and her husband comforted the officer as he struggled to breathe. "I held his hand and I old him everything would be okay and my husband held his head up with a towel. He said, 'help me, help me. ' I said help is on the way," said the neighbor. Sandra Belanger, videotaping across the street, watched the standoff unfold. "I wanted people to see what police were doing, how hard they were trying to get him to give up," she said. Police said Zambrano made his way through an duplex and was hiding in a closet to ambush officers. He burst out and shot a trooper, and then officers returned gunfire, killing him. The trooper, a former Navy Seal and 18-year State Police veteran, is expected to be okay, said police. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Sunday night on the wound, which was to his left shoulder. Officer Tarentino was 42 years old and had transferred from the Leicester Police Department two years ago. On September 24, 2016 there was a tragic incident in Oklahoma. According to the CNN News article, Tulsa Police Shooting Investigated by Justice Department, written by Max Blau, Jason Morris and Catherine E. Shoichet, on September 21, 2016 an African American man named Terence Crutcher was shot and killed by Betty Shelby. Betty Shelby is a Caucasian police officer for the state of Oklahoma. On that Wednesday, there was an SUV parked in the middle of a road with a man running around it and that man was Terence Crutcher. There were two 911 calls made about Crutcher running around his car.
Oscar Grant III was a 22 year-old African American man who was fatally shot in the morning hours of New Years Day, 2009 by BART Police officer Johannes Mehserie in Oakland, California. Responding to reports of a fight on a crowded Bay Area Rapid Transit train returning from San Francisco, BART Police officers detained Grant and several other passengers on the platform at the Fruitvale BART Station. Officer Johannes Mehserle and another officer forced the unarmed, Oscar Grant to lie face down. Mehserle drew his pistol and shot Grant in the back. Several witnesses claim Mehserle said “Oh my God!”
Two Palm Springs police officers were both shot and killed while responding to a public disturbance. John Felix, a twenty 6 year old resident of Palm Springs was the convicted suspect of the shooting, and deaths of Jose Gilbert Vega, 63, and Lesley Zerebny. When the officers arrived to the residence of John Felix, they tried to get him to comply with there orders to exit his home. After 10 minutes had past with no progress, and Felix opened fire on both the officers. Felix had said he would kill the officers, but the officers did not expect to be fired on behind the door.
Many of these questions will be unanswered. The effects of losing a mother, a friend and a helping hand will be everlasting but it also leaves the door open for positivity and her work to continue on. To help prevent these incidents in the future the department and many others should have procedures in place or enforce ones to always call for backup before proceeding with action. If backup doesn’t come in time, tail the suspect and continuously give updates on your location to catch the suspect safely and more efficiently. Following the incident, Clayton’s patrol car was vandalized, adding more negativity to what was already a bad situation.
On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling was fatally shot by Blane Salamoni, a Baton Rouge police officer, in a convenience store parking lot. Salamoni was responding to a call about a man brandishing a gun and thought that Sterling fit the description of the suspect. However, when Salamoni arrived at the scene, he immediately became violent in his use of force on Sterling. Body camera footage shows Salamoni “slamming him into a car; twice ordering the second officer, Howie Lake II, to use his Taser; and threatening to shoot Mr. Sterling with a gun pointed at his head” (Fausset, 2018). Also shown in the video is Sterling doing his best to follow Salamoni’s orders although he was being pushed around by officers for the duration of the encounter.

Out of the travelers that the BART officers tried to arrest, Grant was one of the people who was restrained by officers Ingram and Caruso, and was minutes later shot in the back by officer Ingram. He was urgently transported to the hospital, where he ends up dying in surgery. Officer Ingram told his partner and the judge that he was reaching for his taser and not his gun.
