Roman Gods were very influential in the everyday life of ancient Romans. The Roman gods were honored in many ways including sacrifices, prayer, rituals and burnt offerings. There were many roman gods, however, there were 12 main gods, and out of those 12, there were 3 head gods. The three head Gods were Jupiter, king of gods and ruler of the sky, Neptune, ruler of the seas and water, and Pluto, God of the underworld and death. Roman Gods and religion have significantly influenced culture from the time the religion was practiced widely. Zeus was known by myth to come down to earth in the form of animals, or man and have children with mortal women, thus making the demigod, half man, and half god. Among these demigods was Hercules son of Jupiter,
He was a God and the two servants of Hades, "Pain and Panic," kidnapped him as an infant from his bassinet in order to kill him without being stopped. Little does Hades know they didn't really kill Hercules, they only turned him into a mortal human. In order not to get caught, they leave him,
Hercules was the last son of Zeus and a mortal women. Abandoned by his mortal mom Athena gave Hercules to Hera Zeus' wife and didn't tell her who he actually was. Not long after Hera returned Hercules to Athena who then raised and breast fed Hercules giving him more strength and
From the earliest days of Roman society, religion played a central role in every aspect of life. However, by the time Caesar was assassinated, somewhat of an erosion of religion’s importance had taken place and many desired a return to those lost religious practices. Augustus had similar aspirations and introduced the imperial cult to both foster the restoration of lost religious traditions by deifying him and others who would serve as emperor. In addition, the imperial cult was used to control the population and included measures to take against those who failed to participate in its practice.1 Augustus demonstrated great adeptness in fostering a culture that accepted the imperial cult ideology.
The idea of a mystery religion, a religion that offers access to some great spiritual knowledge, was not unheard of to the Romans. The Romans were a religious people, but many saw Christianity as a threat to their religious and political system. Christians posed a threat to the Romans political and religious system because they refused to sacrifice to the gods, based on the belief that there is only one God. Pagan Romans were not only offended by this, but also felt it threatened their society.
Hercules was the first man born a mortal and by the time he died, he was a god. The reason he was a good was because of all of the task he did, he had the strength of a good, he also had other traits that were as good patience, fortitude and endurance. Zeus was the last mortal son of Zeus. Hera was not happy that he had another child with someone else. When Hercules was just a toddler she tried killing him by slipping two snakes into his crib.
They had 6 gods and 6 goddess but they were more people they worshiped. Most of the gods they worshiped came from Greece and other country they took over. The names of the gods were changed because they did not want them to have the same gods and to be alike but the gods were still the same people. They were lots of gods that the Romans had. They would worship a god for what they were doing.
It is claimed that the entire pantheon of the Roman gods was borrowed from the Greeks and were polytheist. Among the five Greek Gods that found a place in the Roman religion are Jupiter to the Romans, Zeus to the Greeks; Mars to the Romans, Ares to the Greek; Venus to the Romans, Aphrodite to the Greek; Neptune to the Romans, Poseidon to the Greek and Minerva to the Romans, Athena to the Greek (Grant, 2022). There is a strong relationship between mythology and religion, as both are very much faith driven. In the example of Greek mythology, there are many Gods and Goddesses, while in modern Christianity there is only one God, but the premise is still the same. In Christianity, people place their faith in God and let his will guide them throughout the trials and tribulations of their life, the same could be said of mythology, as to again use the Greeks as an example, people placed their faith in the Gods and Goddesses and let their actions be guided as such. The difference in Christianity and mythology in today’s time is that religion is thought to be fact, while mythology is believed to be fiction.
