Burke utilizes rhetorical appeals to show to her audience the relevance and importance of the issue.

In the passage written by Amy Tan the author uses adjectives and feelings to reveal that an embarrassing experience in her youth changed her prospective on her heritage by showing her she needs to always be reminded of her heritage. One of Amy’s emotions in this passage is she feels embarrassed that her Chinese family that came over would get up to get their while the American would wait patiently for the food to be passed. One thing that made Amy embarrassed was when her dad took the fish cheek and said “Amy your favorite.” Another emotion was she was scared that the boy wouldn’t like their Chinese food or wouldn’t like there Chinese Christmas. But Amy’s fear was realized because the ministers family didn’t eat a lot nor did they talk.

Comedian Jon Stewart states “The Internet is just a world passing around notes in a classroom”. In the chapter “Public Thinking” from the book Smarter Than You Think, Clive Thompson addresses the topic of modern day technology, and argues that the internet is an effective and useful tool which positively impacts the way people think. Thompson is a contributing writer for The New York Times and Wired Magazine, as well as author of the book Smarter Than You Think with degrees in Political Science and English. He supports this claim by referring to Ory Okolloh, a law student and blogger about Kenyan politics and corruption, and describing her positive experience with the internet. He then refers to the “audience effect” which can clarify the mind and change one’s performance.

Rhetorical Analysis of Rebecca Walker In Rebecca Walker’s “Putting Down the Gun” presents a compelling claim, but upon further evaluation, the author struggles to provide sufficient evidence to support her argument. Her book describes gender roles and how they are starting to affect her and her son’s life. Walker believes that men struggle due to the expectations put on them. She disagrees with society, placing roles on children.

Part I: Scansion and Analysis This analysis is going to be over Robert Frost’s poem “Range Finding” divided into two stanzas symbolizing the effects of war through the comparison of nature. The rhyme scheme is (abbaabba ccdeed) ultimately giving the poem a smooth and calming flow. This rhyme scheme indicates that the poem is a Petrarchan sonnet also known as an Italian sonnet. Although the poem does have a rhyme scheme, it doesn’t have any type of meter to the way it read.

The Novel Kite Runner is a great novel to read and sends a great message to children. The author uses simple values and emotions too convey the book. One of the main things this novel teaches us is that betrayal is like scar left on your body no matter what you do it won’t go away as shown to us in the novel by Amir. Amir betrayed Hassan and did nothing when he was being raped at this moment Amir realized he had betrayed Hassan and had lost respect as a person. Later on we see how Amir tries his best to hide away the fact that he saw everything and could have done something to stop what had happened to Hassan but didn’t he tries to forget but as he tries he see how difficult it gets and what are the major consequence from doing this such as

Robert Frost’s poems explored the nature in a rather deep and dark way. For example, his poem, “After-Apple Picking” is hidden under a mask that looks like a harvester is just tired and wants to go to sleep after a day of picking apple from tree. However, we learned that this poem has deeper meaning than what is being shown on the surface. This poem is about actually talking about death as a deeper meaning. I think it is really interesting how Robert Frost, as a poet, was able to connect two themes that are completely different and make it into a single poem.

In the novel, Wonder, R.J Palacio tells the story of a kid with a craniofacial disorder named August who struggles a lot in school and no one treats him like a normal kid. Palacio uses similes, repetition and rhetorical questions to characterise the dynamic character, Jack Will as good-hearted and caring about Auggie's first year of school. Jack first befriends Auggie because Mr. Tushman tells him to, but after spending some time with Auggie, Jack realises that Auggie is actually a nice kid and is fun to hang out with. In the end, Palacio uses the three macro techniques: tone, mood and characterisation and some micro techniques to convey Jack's perspective of someone who feels empathetic about August and wants to help him. Palacio uses tone to portray Jack as good-hearted and caring.

Carson emphasizes the impact humans have on the environment by integrating a disdainful tone and rhetorical questions. In the beginning of the Silent Spring, Carson’s disdain towards the careless farmers’ use of parathion is evident by her constant use of strong language such as “eradicating”, “habit of killing”, and “distasteful”. By using blunt diction, Carson emphasizes that the use of a dangerous poison, like parathion, are worsening the condition of the environment, and even portrays the farmers who use the poison as murders when she states that they are on a “mission of death”. In addition, Carson further highlights the unethical actions of the farmers by providing an example of how the “growing trend” of killing the “inconvenien[t]” has not only affected the animals living in the environment, but the humans as well.

The purpose of published “Silent Spring” was to alert and inform everyone about the danger the environment is in due to the spraying of pesticides. Carson wanted to let the public know the truth about pesticides that governments and health organizations were hiding from everyone. In the beginning of Chapter 2 Rachel states “The most alarming of all man’s assaults upon the environment is the contamination of the air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even lethal material. ”(5). This quote explains Carson’s whole purpose of the book in one sentence; to bring change in the world by preventing the widespread use of DDT and dangerous pesticides.

The unknown not knowing where you are, how you got there or the purpose of being there. The Maze Runner written by James Dashner, is a fictional novel based in the future. Dashner uses many literary devices to help portray his imaginative story, and paint a picture in the reader’s head. The characters are described in great detail and the reader can quickly imagine their personalities and appearance. The theme used is very basic but, is fully expressed throughout the book.
