Night is based on one boy's journey through a genocide, we see his struggle to survive and struggle to remain believing in his all benevolent God. Eli is twelve years old and the one narrating the story. He begins by telling us about his family which consist of; his father, his mother, and his three sisters, two older and one younger than him. Elie describes his hometown Sighet in Transylvania, how he grew up a studious, happy, and religious boy there.

In Night, written by Elie Wiesel, the hanging of the little Dutchman pipel in chapter 4 symbolizes the death of faith in religion among Elie and other Jews who witnessed the act. In the plot, the young pipel was killed mercilessly by SS officers. During his execution, carried out alongside two other inmates, all found to be in possession of arms, onlookers were desperate for God to offer his supreme help. “Where is merciful God, where is He?” (64) and “For God’s sake, where is God?”

Sometimes, it is one’s purpose to be there for their loved ones. Strength can seem unattainable for someone when it is for themselves—but it can miraculously materialize when it is necessary for someone they care about. When it is for a loved one, they can find strength and hope when there was neither to begin with and they can fight relentlessly to keep both while faced with horrendous troubles. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, he (Elie Wiesel) was a young Jewish boy in the 1940s who (along with his father) faced appalling pain and suffering while in the various sub-camps at Auschwitz, a concentration camp from the Holocaust that is widely considered the worst camp there was. While in the concentration camps, most abandoned all of their ethics involving family, but Wiesel stayed with his father whenever he possibly could.

Through the brutality witnessed, acts of selfishness, the death of his father, and the loss of his faith, Elie changed. Elie became a young man with a strong sense of mortality through it all. By the end of the war, Elie claimed to see himself as "A corpse contemplating me."

To find a man who has not experienced suffering is impossible; to have man without hardship is equally unfeasible. Such trials are a part of life and assert that one is alive by shaping one’s character. In this case it helps Hitler and his men because they are getting what they want, and if they have to do neutral things to get what he wants he will do it. The other part of the quote means that being silent just encourages the tormentor (Hitler) to make more pain on you just to see the pain in the eyes

The main character is the author because this is an autobiographical novel. Eliezer was a Jew during Hitler’s reign in which Jews were persecuted. The book starts out with the author describing his faith.

All four texts show us how humans can “stick their heads in the sand” just to avoid culpability in exchange for human beings’ quality of life. In Schindler’s List, directed by Steven Spielberg, the act of passivity against a preventable evil that spielberg portrays the Allies, and general populace, ignoring the fact that the Holocaust was happening.

Imagine believing so strongly in something and then being let down, or thinking that you were wrong even to believe. In Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie felt as though he had lost his religion and belief in God. We learned how strong his beliefs were when he says,“I believed profoundly. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep of the destruction of the Temple,” (Wiesel, 14).
