In The Renaissance James A. Corrick introduces the reader about the period of time when a cultural movement was introduced first in Italy and marked the rebirth of old Greek and Roman culture and society. This led to the advancement in science, art, technology, education, economics, and politics. The Renaissance began in Italy in the 1300s, throughout much of Europe during the next three hundred years. The author’s purpose is to inform and entertain the reader about the amazing accomplishments that many people achieved during this period of time. He is not refuting or showing the reader a specific viewpoint, but he produces a straightforward factual explanation about the past.

The year, was 1350. Things in Florence Italy began to change. People began to become more and more self-sufficient, and started to become educated. The population was made up of about 85% serfs. But, some of the freed srefs began to migrate and pick up activities such as trade.

Study of the classicals, mostly the Greco-Romans, were increasingly popular among the people of Europe; humanism was then starting to take shape. In the Renaissance the values and purposes of education was emphasized by humanists, who wants to use it to improve society, economic increased, and above all, to be able to restore religious beliefs.

Without the renaissance people today would not be as highly educated and would be less open-minded. In the Renaissance man’ s view of man changed to one that views itself as perfect, as seen in the art, literature, and scientific discoveries. If the Renaissance was to be known only for one thing it would be art.

From the fifteenth century to the seventeenth centuries society experienced a shift from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. During this time Europe underwent many significant changes that were often expressed through the historical art. Passionate and experienced artists used their skills to create masterpieces that would highlighted these changes and led to the success of their careers. During this shift Medieval point of views began to fade away and a new Era full of new perspectives began to form. The Renaissance was known by many as the rebirth of the humanist culture.

When you first heard about the Renaissance in Northern Europe and the Italian Renaissance, you probably thought them to be very similar. This is only partially true in that the two Renaissances were inspired by the same ideas. While each had a profound impact on Europe, they had key differences that made them unique. Some factors that made them different included art, literature and authors, and the people’s way of thinking. The works of writers and artists like Erasmus, van Eyck, More, and Shakespeare displayed these themes.

The Renaissance was a period in time where everything started to change after the middle ages. During this historical period humans stared evolving by becoming smarter and inventing useful recourses that have changed the world. The renaissance was a life changing period which brought more joy to the world after conquering the dark ages. The Renaissance changed man’s view on the world by using Art, Science and Literature to make humans brighter and because of the rapid information they were gaining. Art during the Renaissance grew rapidly because of Leonardo Da Vici, and Michelangelo who changed the way people painted and drew by creating strategies which made art more interesting.

In the Renaissance, the world changed forever. New thinking about humans being the most significant rather than religious figures would have been unheard of in the Middle Ages, but now in this new period, the world has begun to accept this. These new ideas led to them being present in art, leading to a new beginning for art. In “The Last Days of the Renaissance & The March to Modernity” by Theodore Rabb, he discovers that what occurred in the Renaissance changed art permanently. He said, “The new artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of the new age ....

Distinguished as an important part in the pivotal movement that changed culture and art, the Renaissance helped remove Europe out of the Dark Ages. “Beginning in the 14th century and coming to an end in the 17th, this “golden age” swept the continent, culminating in two distinctive yet unified art movements: the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance” (8 Renaissance Artists...). Many may ask, what was so imperative about this time? What made it a pivotal movement? The artists of this time are what created the central turning point.

The clearest evidence of the break of Medieval culture comes to the visual arts. It was the essence of the Renaissance. One begins to know the names of the artists, feel stronger emotions in the subjects, see well defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and the three- dimensional figures(Doc. A).

During the high Renaissance society looks at artists with exaltation. By the time the high Renaissance came around many artists had become very famous and successful for creating genius level masterpieces that inspire wonder in their audiences. Compared to society looking at artists as laborers during the Medieval Era, during the High Renaissance artists are viewed as master craftsmen and geniuses for their work with perspective, space and depth, the human form, and creating realistic illusions. Reason being during the high Renaissance artists work showed masterful understanding of the workings of the human body, muscles, facial expressions, and anatomy, as well as a masterful understanding of realistic perspective, atmospheric, linear, 2

The Italian Renaissance marked an era of transition from dark to light. Crawling from the Medieval Ages, Italian society began to walk and then run on its way to revelation- both Biblical and scientific. People moved beyond their blind faith to the Church and began to look around them. Artists that had painted in 2-dimensions before experimented with perspective, and the philosophers that drew heavily from the Bible started sampling the works of Ancient Greek masters like Plato and Galen. If ever there was a time to learn to from, it was the Renaissance, and man would I love to travel to Italy.

The renaissance was a time of many different improvements and changes to the era previous to it, the medieval ages, the renaissance re-introduced many different Roman and Greek traditional aspects, so much so that renaissance literally translates into “rebirth” in French. Other changes include social such as the rise of humanism and humanist beliefs, secularism, individualism, big changes in mathematical studies, sciences and all types of learning in general, the printing press invention, as well as religious changes, and the arts were also affected and changed with techniques such as chiaro-scuro, perspective, sfumato, and further more to be explained. Renaissance means rebirth and people wanted to learn and found passion in art. The term Renaissance implies, as stated in the Instructor’s Highlights, “the development of linear perspective in painting, and gradual but widespread educational reform.” The Renaissance is known for the rebirth of artistic developments from Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo.
