Are School Lunches Really Healthy For You? Imagine going to school and thinking, oh boy what am I going to have for lunch today? And all of the sudden you see something you don’t like, so you don’t eat it and then your stomach starts to growl. What would you do for lunch and how would you explain it to your parents after school? Students have been known to not eat lunch at school very often because, for the main reason, they don’t like it. Others say that they “aren’t hungry”, but you never know. Schools should just make the lunch more healthy and taste better. Not necessarily things to make you want to eat school lunch, but could possibly change your opinions on it. Schools cannot put more nutrients than required, therefore if they do they could get in trouble because it is a required law to be followed. “These federal rules say that a school lunch can 't provide more than 30% of a child 's daily requirement of fat or 10% of saturated fat. Further, the lunch must provide at least one-third of the child 's daily requirements of protein and vitamins." (Healthy Lunches) "Researchers have found that students are better able to concentrate during the afternoon if they have eaten a well-balanced lunch that provides sustainable energy (unlike quick fix snacks such as candy bars or soft drinks, which lead to a rapid rise and fall in blood sugar levels). (Cavendish) School lunches provide nutrients which gives energy for them, for their later classes, and most school lunch is known to be more of a lunch than the junk food being eaten at …show more content…
School could get out earlier if there wasn 't an extra period saved for lunch. Schools could even get an extra period to put in the day for an extra class or just more time to add onto the classes that are already going on in school. Kids would also be healthier if they did not eat the lunch from school because you never know how much fat, grease, and unhealthy ingredients are in school lunches. Even though school lunches make a lot of students not feel good, it could be a good idea to have lunch so they get energy and are not hungry throughout the day. But if we were to not have lunch, then we could either get out of school earlier and be able to eat at home, or use that extra period for more class time. We would also be able to eat whatever we want and actually know what is
Students learn how to interact with other kids their age, be respectful, make new friends, and overall mature to become the best they can be, while also being prepared for life after school. In order for these students to not only learn the school subjects that are stepping stones for the rest of their academics, careers, and future jobs. Students need other time in school to work on these other important skills, lunch is this exact time. In order to maximize students conversing and making connections, all students should see each other as equals and companions. A problem with the school lunch system currently is that “Students who qualify for free school meals often receive different meals or are forced to stand in different lines, which can lead to stigma and abuse from their peers” (Besser and Bussell).
Look back at what you ate at school and ask yourself if it is healthy. Is there healthy alternatives to school lunch? Is there a variety of choices to choose from? Are there any vegetarian choices for the students? These are just some of the basic questions you would ask yourself when thinking about the risks of school lunches.
If students start packing their own lunch and not eating the cafeteria lunch then the school will be wasting food and possibly even money because the students don't want to eat it. Parents on the other hand might wonder why their child is coming home always hungry and it would be because the child doesn't like the new lunch menu at school. Then the school will have angry parents at their office desk yelling and complaining about the menu being changed because their child is going all day starving due to them not liking the food. Some of the students might blame it on the cafeteria workers when its not their fault at all, which could lead to the lunch lady's to quit their job or start complaining to. Everyone has a different opinion but this one is mine School lunches should defiantly stay the same no matter what anyone says.
Every day students enjoy their lunches at school. They always enjoy eating their delicious meals where they have the option to chose what they want. If their lunch is changed then their options will be limited. Changing the lunch to be healthier will not be something that will be very great for our school. If the school lunch is changed then some of the students that are larger could not get the nutrition they need and hurt the ones that really need those extra calories.
A recent study found that children who regularly ateschool lunches were 29 percent more likely to beobese than their peers who brought lunch fromhome. Health science has advanced greatly since theinception of the National School Lunch Program in1946. When a 2008 Institute of Medicine committeecomprising 14 child-nutrition experts examined dataon the content of school lunches in the UnitedStates, its findings were stark. The updated standards aligned school meals withthe 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans byincreasing quantities of fruits, vegetables, andwhole grains; establishing calorie ranges; andlimiting trans fats and sodium. Children consume almost half of their total caloriesat school, and the National School Lunch Programprovides
Growing up healthy eating is encouraged for many people. Some debate that schools should encourage healthy eating as well. However others believe that it is not a schools choice about what children eat. Schools should not have whole wheat lunches because children should be able to make the decisions of what they eat by themselves. Whole wheat lunches cost too much for schools.
Although many students agree that school lunches need to be changed, many feel the opposite. When changing a school lunch menu students are going to lose some of their favorite school lunches. There will be less unhealthy foods such as: little brownies, or pizzas, maybe even the cheese stick that many students love. Although it sounds like a bad idea to change school lunches, I feel differently
Though new school lunch organizations provide a healthier, more proficient learning environment, they also promote realms of controversy over student meals. However, these conflicts are futile in comparison to constant concerns over global health issues, including obesity, anorexia, and even

This sentence proved that kids can like the new healthier lunches standards. That also means that it not just healthy for children, it is effective . Healthy school lunches benefit education which is a great reason to agree with healthier school lunches

In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
For example, an ill student would probably want a bowl of hot soup from their favorite restaurant not rice with meat from the school lunch. Having an Open Campus Lunch can help students choose healthier choices out of all the options provided. It becomes very difficult for students who participate in sports directly after school or those who ride the bus to find time to meet with a teach to get help. If they were to stay after school the students who ride a bus would risk missing their bus which lead to a difficult situation for their parents. Many parents are working eight to five jobs or multiple jobs and can’t take an hour to pick their student up and drive them home. If a student missed the bus because they stayed after school their parent could end up losing their job because they had to leave work. A longer lunch break would allow students to go to teachers classrooms and get help during lunch so they don’t miss the bus after school.
Changing the school lunch can always be negative thing also because most teenagers between the ages of 15-19 eat a lot of junk food so they wouldn't prefer eating healthier foods. It can be a financial problem for the school also because if the school started serving just healthy foods most students wouldn't purchase school lunch it it's sad but true. To prevent that from happening i would serve foods that look appear like junk food but are a more healthier selection for example Turkey Burgers is a good product they are more better for you than a typical fast food burger. Or you can switch it up serve healthy products one day, and serve less healthy products another

A healthy lunch can give children the energy they need to stay focused, pay attention in class, and learn the information presented to them in their classes after lunchtime.” Eating healthy when we are young, is very important when we are older as well. If we eat unhealthy habits when we are young, than we might have unhealthy habits when we are older.
