Grifin M. Price Kendra Gallos English III H 3/21/18 Gun Control Will Not Solve Anything Guns are given a bad reputation because of the terrors that can be committed by people who want to cause harm. Those who are gun control advocates wish to ban certain weapons without basis, ban certain weapon attachments, and restrict the rights of the second amendment. Gun control supporters base their opinion on statistics about gun violence that use a portion of data that is not about gun violence just to boost the value of the number. Supporters of gun control dismiss the saying “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” because they are misinformed about the number of defensive gun uses (DGU) which far outnumbers the …show more content…
“Assault Weapons” are a key focus for gun control. Advocates for gun control state that these types of weapons should not be attainable by civilians. They feel those types of firearms are too dangerous for the common people. No facts are provided as to why these rifles like the AR-15, which has become a hot topic in the gun control community, are more dangerous than any other firearm. Bump stocks are another point of interest for gun control supporters. A bump stock is an attachable stock to a firearm that simulates automatic fire by using the recoil of the gun to aid in successively pulling the trigger to increase fire rate. Gun control supporters are trying to get a ban on these attachments because they do not feel like civilians should have the power to own anything like an automatic weapon “He said he wanted the Department of Justice to ‘propose regulations that ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns.’” Another focus is magazine size restriction. Advocates for gun control believe that 30 rounds is high capacity and any firearm should not be allowed to hold more than around 10 rounds. The claims they assert have no factual basis or cause. Most of the claims made by gun control advocates can be proven wrong by statistical information. The statistical information used by gun control supporters to boost numbers were falsified somewhat to begin with. The argument of gun control comes from a false basis, has no real evidence suggesting gun control would solve crime rate issues, and infringes on the 2nd amendment right ,therefore, lies unconstitutional. Proponents of more gun control laws believe that the Second Amendment was intended exclusively for militias, that gun restrictions have always existed, and that gun regulations would prevent criminals from possessing firearms. However, Opponents claim that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns, that guns are needed for self-defense, and that gun ownership helps to dissuade crime. Because of this obvious difference, proponents of stricter firearm regulation demand more laws to help prevent mass shooting, and want reform in the area of background checks. Meanwhile, opponents of gun laws often accuse the proponents of manipulating a mass tragedy in order to further strengthen their fight. Gun ownership has been a tradition within the united states since before the country itself was formed.
Gun violence is a constant problem in the United States of America. It has affected society and out youth negatively in the past and will continue to affect the country as a whole if nothing is done about it. The country is in mourning due to the recent influx of gun violence related crimes. There are common-sense reforms that either side can agree on. These include improvements to backgrounds checks, revisions of the Second Amendment that accommodate the modern innovations to firearms and reinstating the Center for Disease Control's research on gun violence.
In 2018, there was a lot of progress toward stricter gun regulations. Bump stock was officially banned by Donald Trump as a result of the deadliest mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas (Diaz, Andrea, and Christina Maxouris). A bump stock is a device that can be attached to a firearm enabling it to fire bullets more rapidly. After the shooting on February 14, 2018, the campaign March for Our Lives was created and they organized the largest single-day protest against gun violence in U.S history (“Mission & Story.”). Over 1.2 million people joined this campaign.
“A study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that "legal purchase of a handgun appears to be associated with a long-lasting increased risk of violent death"(-https://gun-control.procon.org/). There is such a thing as an unlicensed dealer selling handguns without a background check and proper documentation and it is legal. Those gun buyers are mainly causing chaos with mass shootings and yet others think the Second Amendment defends the right to own a weapon for “self-defense”. It is time for tougher gun control laws; the safety of the citizens depends on a safe environment free of guns from those using them for villainous purposes such as mass shootings or homicides.
Moreover, this leads to an easier way to kill people since they only need to pull the trigger. As a

In today’s society, one of the most alienating issues in American politics is gun control. More specifically, the issue is whether or not guns should be banned in the United States. Some people would say that guns should be banned because it would reduce crime as a whole and keep citizens safer. Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
