Have you ever been sitting somewhere and felt unbearably bored, just thinking “I wish I were a bird and could fly freely.” Ten-year-old Handful, in the novel The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, thought this way, but for a completely different reason. She thinks like this to escape the brutal reality of her life as a slave. Her owner, Eleven-year-old Sarah Grimke, is an abolitionist who got Handful as a birthday present and is forced to accept her by her parents. Kidd wrote this historical-fiction book not only to entertain, but also to provide the reader with a perspective of an awful time in history.

This is a modern day story of Man vs his inner self. George has an inner conflict that we all can relate to as we watch it being played out on stage. I learned that music plays a huge role in adding emphasis or expression to a scene. Unlike some other forms plays have to be a bit more exaggerated because they rely heavily on actors and have a lot fewer bells and whistles. By watching this play on video I also learned that the video took away the realism.

In this caring and funny book by Holly Goldberg Sloan. Julia grows into herself while playing a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz. Julia is really short for her age and by the end of the summer fun of The Wizard of Oz , she will realize how tall she really is inside where it really count’s. Julia would never think about herself being a performer, but when the fantastic director of The Wizard of Oz put her as a munchkin in his play she starts to see herself in a brand-new way. As she gets friendly with the poised and wise olive one of the grownups with dwarfism who have joined the productions motley crew of munchkins and her deeply artistic neighbor Ms. Wong.

To understand a play, we need to understand it’s characters. In Maria Irene Fornes’ play The Conduct of Life the character Orlando has many different challenges he faces, and he deals with them in interesting ways. Orlando is a military man who is married to Leticia who is ten years older than he is. He seems to be a wealthy man who struggles with many different things in his life. We will be diving in deeper to exactly what those conflicts are and how Orlando responds to them.

While both stage and screen portrayals were highly acclaimed there are some similarities as well as some marked differences in each interpretation. The stage design gives the impression of the characters being in two separate rooms, the positioning of blocks and pillars helps again to demonstrate this. This intricate attention to detail enables the performance to be compared so similarly to the movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, although the ‘big screen’ enables more room for a fast change in setting and shots, Rourke does a phenomenal job trying to create this illusion which works so brilliantly. The night before the wedding or you could refer to it as the ‘stag and hen do’ was an unexpected twist that the audience definitely did not see coming. Again, the revolving stage was used to represent the divide between the women and the men and to compensate for the lack of space that the stage could carry.

The performance of “The Seagull” was interesting because there are different characters that portrayed as an actor to the audience. The Seagull play you notice some lines are being said in different tones, so you can capture the characters personality or the mood they are in during each scene. A young man name Treplev wants to become a famous writer. Try to impress his mother and everyone who doubts him.

The story of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum originally began when Hero falls in love with a young virgin courtesan named Philia. Although Hero fell in love with Philia she was promised to a General by the owner of the house; Marcus Lycus . Lycus was an entrepreneur of courtesans and held Philia to wait there until the General would come for her. Hero confides the help of his servant Pseudolus with the task of bringing Philia to him and in doing so Pseudolus would be granted his freedom. It is that moment when the bargain is struck between Hero and Pseudolus is when the story truly beings to unfold.

In Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” demonstrates the personal growth of the dynamic protagonist Louise Mallard, after hearing news of her husband’s death. The third-person narrator telling the story uses deep insight into Mrs. Mallard’s thoughts and emotions as she sorts through her feelings after her sister informs her of her husband’s death. During a Character analysis of Louise Mallard, a reader will understand that the delicate Mrs. Mallard transforms her grief into excitement over her newly discovered freedom that leads to her death. Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House is a play set in 19th century Norway, when women’s rights were restricted and social appearance was more important than equality and true identity. In A Doll’s House, Nora represents 19th century women entrapped by society to fulfill wifely and motherly obligations, unable to articulate or express their own feelings and desires. Ibsen uses Nora’s characterization, developed through her interactions with others as well as her personal deliberations and independent actions, language and structure in order to portray Nora’s movement from dependence to independence, gaining sovereignty from the control of her selfish husband, deceitful marriage and the strict social guidelines of morality in 19th century Norway. Initially, Nora appears to be a dependent, naïve, and childlike character; yet, as the play unfolds, she appears to be a strong, independent woman who is willing to make sacrifices for those she cares about as well as herself.
