One option is from an approved nursing program, which includes some hospital nursing programs, where students are generally awarded a diploma in nursing (Bureau of Labor and Statistics). The program is usually under 2 years and graduates are eligible for employment immediately thereafter. However, applicants should be mindful of any prerequisite courses that hospitals may require before acceptance into these types of programs. Much like hospital nursing programs, community college nursing programs are typically 2 years or under in length, require completion of course prerequisites, and prepare recent graduates to enter into the workforce. However, acceptance into college nursing programs can be quite competitive, with emphasis placed on students with the highest grade point average. Graduates of community college nursing programs earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN). Registered nurses that wish to further their education may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN), at a university, or subsequently, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree (MSN). Again, applicants should be reminded to apply to an approved program, taking into consideration the cost of tuition, the length of study, and the graduation rate of the school’s …show more content…
The median salary for nurses with a bachelor’s degree is around 66, 000 a year, although nurses can make up to 77,000 a year, depending upon education, position, locality and state. A career in nursing offers many advantages, including: a stable income; nurses are usually full-time employees, benefits, work incentives, and tuition reimbursement (Bureau and Labor and Statistics). However, much like any career, there are disadvantages. Nurses are often required to work long hours or over-time, partly due to fluctuations in staffing, although, this may also be part of the job description, it is not uncommon for nurses to work 12-16 hour shifts. Likewise, a fluctuation in staffing may lead to a heavier than average workload, therefore increasing work related stress. Individual should also be reminded of the psychological strain from nursing. The requirement of taking the NCLEX-RN is completing an approved nursing educational program follows the guideline and regulation established by the board of nursing (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2018). American Association of College of Nursing (2008) provides a framework for establishing a baccalaureate nursing program which comprises the expectation for coursework and clinical experience. Clinical experience is critical in nursing training for preparing the trainee to provide care to “a variety of patient across the lifespan and across the continuum of care” (American Association of College of Nursing, 2008, p. 33). Although the required clinical training hour is varied in each nursing program, it is essential and mandatory for all the curriculum. To be a Registered Nurse one will need to go through about three to four years of school. The certificates range from Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), to Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). The most popular option is the ADN program because it’s more hands on out in the medical field. To become a Registered Nurse one can go to any community college or university.
The transition from an Associate Degree (AD) nurse to a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a rewarding time during a nurse’s career. There are many reasons why nurses return to college to get their BSN degree. Some return to meet a personal goal others return for professional advancement or are mandated by their employer to do so. Over the past few years many organizations stopped hiring AD nurses or drastically reduced the number they hire. Many AD nurses who delayed returning to school regret not doing so sooner when they realize the wealth of knowledge gained from getting their BSN degree.
I now know that NCCU offers BSN program for nursing. At first I wanted to go to UNC Chapel hill but it turned out to be a very expensive school and also very competitive school. When I was doing my research in this class for my career I found out about the salary and their work schedule. The last thing I learned was that there were many types of nurses beside the ones I knew of. Over

You must pass the National and Council Licensing Examination (NLEX), which is computerized and given continuously six days for a week (“Steps to Become a California Registered Nurse, n.d.”). Nurses are critical for promoting health in the society. The profession is highly flexible, since they specialize in diverse operations in the medical field. Registered nurses, for instance, are responsible for the administration of medicine and inoculations to patients (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Additionally, these professionals observe, record, and enlighten doctors of any changes in a patient’s health. Nurses interpret and evaluate diagnostic examinations to determine an individual’s condition, as well as making the necessary adjustments in patient treatment plans on their health progress.
Introduction: Registered nurses (RN) play a very important role in the medical field. They do a lot of the charting for the doctors. Being a nurse is not a simple task you have to be able to take orders and make sure that they are done in a very quick and clean way. Something that a lot of people don’t know is that registered nurses can get treated very badly sometimes. If we didn’t have nurses as good as our RN’s then the doctors would have do a lot more work.
It is important to identify why nurses are becoming stressed and how to reduce work related stress. The past 10 years there has been an increase in stress levels for nursing staff. In 2001 a survey was conducted by “American Nurses Association”. The study results showed that 70.5% of nurses cited the acute and chronic effects of stress and overwork among their top three health and safety
This trend may potentially threaten to damage quality medical care. The importance of nurses in health care and the impact they have on their patients’ mental health is something that is usually being unconsidered in both the healthcare industry and in society in
While Working alongside the nurse, one of my many roles was to do regular observations such as; taking blood pressure, checking temperature, weighing patients and checking their blood sugar. Once I completed this I kept a record of every patient and will later disclose it with the nurse in charge or the doctor who will follow it up. I made sure every document was kept confidential and store in the save file. I also was responsible to give medication to patients and provided guidance and support to the family who had just lost a loved one.
Nursing is a very demanding career that calls upon an individual to take on numerous roles to do an efficient job of supplying patients with good quality care. Nurses must take the role of a teacher to educate patients on how to take care of themselves to promote future wellness. Nurses must take the role of a scientist when it comes to determining what kind of condition a patient has; they must perform several test to figure out the best form of treatment to take to treat the said condition. Nurses take the form of a counselor when it comes to thoroughly listening to a patient’s personal, social, and psychological problems and giving them advice on how to handle these situations. Nurses are caretakers that serve with high levels of compassion
