Writing a major essay is never an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and input from other individuals in order to make the essay the best it can be. When it came to writing about the experience of my mother’s death I thought about excluding some of the details, but I thought my writing deserved to tell the whole truth not just part of it. I’ve talked about this experience before, but have never gone into complete detail. Consider yourself lucky because now is the time I have decided to really open up in my writing through this essay.
In class the examples were very helpful when it came to this writing process. I really appreciated being able to read “No More Legos” because it gave me the idea to not make my essay entirely serious. At times it is good to be serious in writing, but not all the time. It can make the audience tired and lightning up my story by word choice was a key move.

She said she loved how descriptive it was which really surprised me. The next day in class I also received great reviews about what molded me into who I am today. Bridget told me to add the cause of my mother’s accident to my paper. Under my review I stated that I wanted to incorporate more imagery into my essay. Then Rachel had only positive criticism, yet what stuck out to me the most is that Nicole commented on “What did you overcome?” It took me awhile to discover what was, later that will be
My six word memoir is very self explanatory and purely honest. When someone close to you dies, I wouldn’t say it gets easier each year. But in fact it takes time to accept it. We can’t continue to have a mindset that repeats phrases like, “ What if?” or “ If only we could’ve done this…” We can’t go back change the natural occurrences of events. But what we can change is the here
I was fascinated by her story about coming to America. I expected her life to be a bit hard since I knew they didn't have much. Im also happy I did this essay because I got a chance to know about my aunt better
The book also explores the role of the living in the dying process. The author describes her mother's illness and death in detail, including the physical and emotional toll it took on her family. The author and her sister cared for their mother during her illness, which involved feeding her, changing her, and providing emotional support. The author also reflects on her own mortality and the inevitability of death.
Senior year of High school here at North Stafford my writing over the years has vastly improved through the accumulation of all my classes. Not only did my writing improve but also, my writing styles over the year has grown and matured for the better. I learned and understood for the first time how to use a document and properly cite it in my papers. Not only hot to cite it but where to find accurate and official sources as in books, encyclopedias, news articles, government papers, and online URLs. I have experienced over the year how to write a concise yet detailed paper within a few weeks.
Jesika Anderson WR 121 My personal writing style is generally very casual; my brainstorming process really only includes getting any ideas (if any) I need to further a topic or to flesh it out beyond what it began as. As with brainstorming, my drafting is minimal and almost never done in longhand, my ideas flow faster than I can write them out, so I almost always need to type which I can do at a much faster (and legible) rate. I write, and then edit the process from there, going through two or three edits before a final piece is produced. Research happens while I write or while I brainstorm. Either because I need to confirm the idea is interesting during brainstorming or I need to confirm/cite during writing.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
Over the this past semester in freshman composition I have learned how to write a college level paper. Going into this class, I was a little unsure and scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do the things that were required for me to do. As the semester passed I could definitely see a change in my writing. I learned how to use the appropriate punctuation, how to write and refute an argumentation paper, which I believe is my strongest piece of writing and how to research and gather information to write a strong research paper. I knew coming into this class that I was going to struggle with my punctuations, word choice, and the overall flow of the paper.
Deciding on a topic for this paper was a true challenge. On one side, nothing particularly exciting and worth discussing had been or is going on in my life. On the other side, it is scary to bring up the bad memories, problems or bitter incidents; it is like accidentally scratching an old scar. You do not know whether you will feel nothing, or if you will make it bleed again. However, I decided to be brave and talk about the biggest loss I have encountered so far: the loss of my great grandmother.
English has been difficult for me since I was first introduced to writing and I’ve never been exceptional at writing in general. In the past, I struggled with formatting and putting my words on paper. After taking your class, my writing confidence and speed has risen dramatically. Formatting essay comes easily to me now and I understand how I can improve as a writer. I know that what I am writing clearly reflects what I am trying to convey to the reader.
My instructor Jennifer Jackson said this time “ Bravo! This is one of the strongest revisions I’ve seen yet.” This essay gave me so much confidence and made me feel I can actually write something interesting. Also, I sent my paper to The Writing Center, after I submitted my paper to my instructor to see any other mistakes I could have to improve my writing skills.
Writing essays and other types of posts has always been difficult for me. But, throughout this composition class, I have learned many interesting and new things about the different types of writing styles. When starting this class, I considered myself to be an average writer with run-of-the-mill vocabulary, ordinary sentence structure and typical finished products. This class has helped me greatly improve my writing skills in a variety of ways. I have learned multiple things by taking this class, such as new ways to approach writing and that there is much that I still need to learn about composition.
I have learned a lot about how to improve my writing and make it more engaging over this past semester. When writing the first paper I learned a lot about how I write and how to improve my writing. At the beginning of this paper I learned how to plan a paper, by writing down ideas and notes down on a separate sheet of paper. This really helps to narrow down the ideas that I was passionate about. While writing this paper I learned how to self-correct mistakes that I would make a lot throughout my paper.
This was the hardest course I have taken to date. My journey began with identifying different conventions of writing styles based on Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, of which I had no prior experience. I never gave thought to the idea of having different writing styles geared towards specific audiences. This makes a great deal of sense when considering all the different writing topics, styles, and audiences. Module one was my first exposure to “conventions.”
In high school, I hated writing essays for my English classes. At first, I did not have a reliable writing process. I would free write a rough draft and turn it in as a final draft. I would also write last minute instead of using the time to create a well-thought essay. I focused more on passing a class rather than boosting my writing skills.
Growing up over the years I have thought of writing to be a very limited field. Limiting writing to only published books, magazines and writing my essays for school, but over the course of the last couple weeks I have learned otherwise. Having read the texts that were assigned in class and discussed them as a group, has really allowed me to see that there are more parts to writing than the actual task of writing and allowed me to form my own ideas of good writing. Although some people believe that grammar and spelling makes good writing, in actuality good writing is created through understanding the context, connecting with the audience and realizing the genre you are writing in.
