When looking back on my overall experience with my DH2 student, I actually learned a lot as a client sitting in the chair. I learned the proper procedure of how and what the dental hygienist are required to do. In a real world, I didn’t know what my care provider was doing to me. They clean and just polish. Everything goes in a flash. I liked how my DH2 explained what she was doing to me, what changes I have to make with my oral health, and what procedures that are needed to be done. Plus, she provided me a few pointers and tips on what I have to do when I am in her position next semester and how I have to act professional and to be prepared for anything that suddenly happens. I liked my DH2 she was very nice and the overall experience with her was good. I remember on the first day of the appointment, I was very lost. I didn’t know why the appointment took about 3 hours, but now I know that it requires a lot of effort to finish a task and it is not easy. It takes time for the DH2’s and me including (in the future) to master the technique. What I learned during my times at the clinic is health history taking. They are mandatory and …show more content…
I learned a lot, and I can now follow the same steps as what my DH2 were doing to me. It showed me there is a lot to require as a dental hygienist. My DH2 has to go through the ADPIE procedure at each appointment to see if my ideal goal in the end of the day was reached. Another element is required as for a dental hygienist is the need to be on top of things and now what you have to do for that day, tell the client what you have to do on them and how you are going to perform it. Lastly, as a student now I can learn from my DH2 mistakes and apply it for myself so I won 't make that same mistake she had done. This is what a student will need to do in the future to apply to their own

Many advantages are a bright side to the job. Education and salary are a very defining idea within the dentistry department. Over the years, there are a lot of changes that has happened in this profession, where others may or may not find it beneficial. Ontario, being the first province that recognizes dental hygienists, has established their own college for the profession, which is called College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). Before it has been established, dental hygienists are dependent to Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDHO), which by that time they can just work on a client when a dentist gave them an instruction. Before, the main focus of dental hygienists is to treat clients’ tooth decay and gum diseases. As years pass by, it has been changed and their scope of practice becomes much wider, like they can also provide different kind
Students were divided in groups of three, with two students setting up and one student coaching them through the process. My job was to ensure the students were following the correct steps and stopping and correcting any mistakes. It was important to educate them on correct infection control protocols to reduce potential risk for cross-contamination and instill good habits from the beginning. I also assisted in helping them identify oral landmarks and tooth numbering. This experience was rewarding and fulfilling as I remember how the advice from my peers helped me succeed in the program and my goal was to deliver the same level of information and assistance to help future dental hygiene student

The good is great job, great salary, great boss and staff makes a great life. The bad is as years go on it does not matter how experienced you are, you still get paid just as much as a dental hygienist who just started working. The ugly is you cannot push products on your patients that you would recommend, you have to vaguely discuss, you cannot have a specific product recommendation that is the dentist job. (Source
During my placement I worked alongside the dental hygienist, this gave me insight on the daily role of a dental hygienist and therapist. Before dental nursing I studied BTEC Applied Science Level 3. The course involved extensive study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

During these past weeks at the Archbold ER, I had the opportunity to put into practice many of the content learned in class. This included but was not limited to the proper placement of a Foley catheter using sterile techniques, insertion of an NG tube, and assessment of patients. Even though I attempted to complete some of my initial goals for this internship, I noticed that I couldn’t complete a few of them due to lack of time and lack of experience in the field. Therefore, some of my goals that I’ll need to address during the following three weeks include improve my assessment skills, have better communication with my patients, and improve my questioning to get a better understanding of the cause that brought them in. One the most beneficial
Ever since I was young, dentistry had sparked my interest for my career. Dentistry appeals to me chiefly because I had always wanted to be involved in a profession where I can help people. My love towards human biology especially human teeth also contributes to my career choice. Most importantly, I find human teeth interesting, often fascinating. Due to my compassionate nature, I have since long known that I would want to pursue dentistry as my career because I get to form relationships with my patients, work hand in hand with many people on a face to face basis.
