Racial Profiling: A Major Problem In Today's Society

The three reasons are it goes against our core values of equality face, second it is hard for individual to get as jobs being profiled, and last, making racial profiling a norm in modern society will only bring about a storm of rebellion and hate crimes First I’m going to talk about how it goes against our core values of equality and freedom.

Racial profiling has been going on for hundreds of years now by everyday citizens and law enforcement. “Racial profiling happens everyday,in cities and towns across the country”(ACLU).When will this humiliating profiling stop?Often people have walks and boycotts just to show how serious they want their equal living. “Racial profiling is a longstanding and deeply troubling national problem despite claims that the United States has entered a “post-racial era”(ACLU). Racial profiling is when law enforcement target individuals based off their race ,ethnic or religion as harm to the society.

The effects can lead to something so powerful that could potentially ruin someone’s life, such as tainting someone’s reputation and stopping them from ever getting a well credited job. Not only does racial profiling affect law enforcement, it is also a known thing to be done in the work force. In most cases, before ever seeing a possible employee, their resume and social media profiles are seen ahead of time. Using what has been provided, assumptions can be made that can cost them getting or losing the job. It is as simple as having a name as Kashonda or being seen with a red solo cup without even seeing the contents on social media.

Living in the United States, Americans are living under the premises that citizens can live in a fair and equal state regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or their national origin. But what happens when this is proven not to be true. Americans have a name for it when it is contrary to them not being treated equal because of race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. It is called racial profiling; birthed out of criminal profiling. Racial profiling, therefore, is the involvement of law enforcement officers in a discriminatory manner targeting any individual based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin for suspicion of a crime.

I see a few different reasons why racial profiling still exists. Not that I think that it is right but I come from a town where there are literally a handful of African Americans at a time. And for a long time they would only stay a few weeks before they were harassed out of town. Law enforcement would keep an eye on them and if they seemed to be causing trouble, it never failed that they would pack up and head out before a few weeks had gone by.

For the long history that is The United States of America and even in present day we still see racial profiling. In the past few years even with large media presence on certain cop related incidence or the unfair sentencing of one due to their race we have started to see a change from those within the criminal justice system as well as the citizens of this country, standing up for what is right and just.

Racial profiling is a very important issue that individuals in society face every day. This problem occurs in low income or poverty-stricken areas throughout cities and communities across the nation. Hundreds of anecdotal testimonials allege that law enforcement officials at all levels of government are infringing upon the constitutional rights and civil liberties of racial and ethnic minorities through a practice called “racial profiling” (Ward, 2002). So what is racial profiling? According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling by law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (National Institute of Justice, 2013).

Racial profiling has become a national issue starting in 2015 (“Racial”). Judging someone for their race has been a problem ever since a minority group has been noticed. Racial profiling has spread over all over the world. Racial profiling has been a problem through the years, if the human race can learn what racial profiling is, advantages of the profiling, and the disadvantages.

Racial Profiling in America Racial profiling is defined as refers to the targeting of particular individuals by law enforcement authorities based not their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics ( The Leadership conference) . This is another mechanism for racial discrimination backed by the law. According to the The Leadership conference, racial discrimination is not solely on race, but based on religion, ethnicity and national origin.

Racial Profiling can be useful sometimes and sometimes it can hurt other people’s feelings. It can be useful to the police because it can give the police an idea of who or what kind of person committed a crime. You can’t always rely on racial profiling to help find the criminal. There is no guarantee that you will find the criminal by using racial profiling. It can hurt other people because you are judging the person by their looks and actions.
