Rationale
This is a critical review of the article, A Comparison of Student Achievement and Satisfaction in an Online Versus a Traditional Face-to-Face Statistics Class by Jessica J. Summers, Alexander Waigandt and Tiffany A. Whittaker (2005).
I chose this paper as I am currently helping the Department of Communication in designing an online module for undergraduate studies. Our concern is how best to deliver the course using the best technology and techniques available. Besides that, I am also a firm believer in the power and the affordances of technology to address some issues

This paper explores the differences between traditional classroom learning and distance education by sampling a group of undergraduate students taking introductory statistics course fin a large Midwestern university in the US. It does so by measuring two outcome dimensions: students’ final grades and student satisfaction. In other words, it sets to find out if there were any differences in the final scores and in the student satisfaction level between those who had signed up for the traditional classroom method and those students who had enrolled to the same course as online …show more content…
However, significant group differences were found in seven of the sixteen questions related to satisfaction level. In other words, students who enrolled online expressed lower satisfaction on other dimensions. Four are related to the instructor; instructor’s explanation, instructor enthusiasm, instructor openness, instructor’s interest in student learning; and three to the course; class discussion, quality of questions/problems, evaluation and grading. To summarize the overall finding, while the two groups performed in a similar manner in the final assessment, the online students were less satisfied with the course than those who attended in the classroom
Qualitative Critique Discussion I will be comparing and contrasting two qualitative studies: (1) an ethnographic study that examined the care and management of women experiencing early miscarriage in a hospital (Murphy & Philpin, 2010); and (2) a phenomenological study focused on the emotional needs of dying patients (Law, 2009). Ethnographers describe and interpret cultural behavior. They collect, describe, categorize, and analyze data. Their goal is to identify patterns in the behavior and thoughts of participants.
I enjoyed reading your post regarding the Critical Evaluation decision making model. The two main components of the Critical Evaluation model are intrusive and critical evaluative. You mentioned that the critical-evaluative model works using a hierarchy system which depends on each individual situation (Laureate Education, Inc., 2012). The intuitive level of moral reasoning would say that as counselors and due to time constraints it is not always feasible to be more critical of our daily moral decisions ethics (Kitchener, 1984).
Poverty is a universal issue from New York City to Sierra Leone, where children everyday suffer, with over one billion children worldwide living in poverty. Suffering from malnutrition, illness going untreated, lack of education, and having to commit crimes just to stay alive. Two examples that demonstrate how raw and horrid the struggle of poverty are the memoir A Long Way Gone and the movie The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.
In September 2011 a big event happened in the United State in New York City, where 19 terrorists from al-Qaeda took the place of the people that are flying the plane and make the dead of 2,977 people in the twin towers because it collapsed in the towers (www.911memorial.org). From the day on the Muslim people are discriminated because they are cataloged that they are terrorists, they have to be separate from other communities, people don 't want them in the country and want to deport them. “In the “Invitation to a Dialogue: Being Muslim in America” Jenan A. Matari said that many people like her that are “diverse” have been tagged as the less important people and their rights and safety are taken away because they government and the people who are higher than them order it. This means that they were not accepted and also by the government because they
Rather than focus all our attention on technology, we should emphasize how we can help others around
In this report I am going to be comparing and contrasting quantitative and qualitative methods of research. Quantitative data is data that is generally focused on numbers for example methods like questionnaires and official statistics. Qualitative data is data that is a lot more in depth for example interviews and observations. I am going to be comparing questionnaires with interviews and official statistics with observations. Questionnaires are used to collect quantitative data as the results can be expressed with numbers.
4.1 Summary In this quantitative cross-sectional study the researchers have carried out an investigation on the links between dependent variable (DV) (these included risk assessment, skin assessment within 24 h of admission, pressure reducing mattress (PRM) and planned repositioning in bed) and independent variables (IV) ( i.e. Hospital and unit type, nursing staff and workload, and patient characteristics) in 2 healthcare setting in Sweden [one general (350 beds) and one university (1100 beds) hospital]. The university hospital developed a PUP plan. The general hospital did not have this in place, however they had a higher percentage of nurses carrying out direct patient care (62.8% vs 52.8) and nurses in the general hospital had more experience.
We Want You The poem Plato Told by E.E. Cummings illustrates the character of a soldier's thoughts which could be agreeable to the idea of war but how ultimately war results in death. All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque sends the subtle message of the reality of war and how losing one's life isn't as honorable as it is presented to be. Remarque shows this reality by the experiences he gives the main character and other soldiers in order to argue against war and build accusations against those who promote it. Remarque paints a very drastic and probably quite accurate picture of war.
This week’s reading of the College Orientation Experience discusses six “common errors in judgment that interfere with effective critical thinking”. (Bethel University, 2013, p. 4) Three of the six discussed were stereotypes, snap judgments, and halo effect. (Bethel University, 2013) Stereotyping a person or groups is something I think we all do.
Controversial Analysis Some people may have voted for him while others may have not. Either way, he is now our President. Being a speaker for the entire world, his words are important. On June 26, 2015, Same-Sex Marriage became legal in the United States.
Outline Introduction Online education, which is also known as distance education, is an education that is based on the internet and utilise many types of technology. This type of education is different from the traditional or classroom education . Some people think that online education is not an adequate method of learning, however, others think that online education is an easier and more efficient way of learning. Moreover, survey result from Pew research center in 2011 shows that around 23% of college graduates attend the online class and about 15% of those completely acquired the degree from online education. Body Argument 1: Lower total cost Opposing Argument: Since online education utilizes the latest and modernized technology devices,
Carr (2000) reported dropout rates as high as 80% in online classes and suggested a rule of thumb that course completion rates are often 10 to 20% higher in traditional courses. (Ni, A. Y, n.d.) Thus, it is very challenging for the participant to actively seek for the help, learn and figure it out the material independently without any help from friends and others. Some of students may not have the skill to be the effective learners and after that triggers them have lack of motivation to learn independently. Especially with students who new to higher education, they tend to feel extremely depressed when faced with particular academic challenge and get easily to drop out.(Bejerano, A. R. 2008)
Purpose: Identify the key purpose of conducing the analysis. (Points = 1) a. The main purpose of conducting a needs analysis is to discover, and then analyze the deficits and spaces for improvement in regards to the performance needs of a company/ organization. This analysis provides insight into the specific areas that could potentially be worked on to create more efficient organizations, teams and people. Use: Discuss 2 specific ways the analysis results might be useful to an organization.
Theme: Education Narrow : The cause and effect of online learning Lai Che Hui (1001541419) Loo Yee Qi (1001541775) Now a days, a lot of people of the frequently to use technology or electronic products in any way or any time and of course most important is the Internet. A lot of schools started to use online learning to replace traditional paper based teaching method and submit the assignment. Basically, online learning had been widely accepted and practiced throughout the world. There’s tones of online learning student around the world, but did they ever think about what are the benefits they actually enjoyed on online learning?
In quantitative research, variables are identified and defined, and then relevant data is collected from study participants. A strength of this type of research is that the data is in numeric form, making it easier to interpret. It also studies the relationship between independent and dependent variables and can address questions such as does a relationship between variables exist, what is the direction of the relationship, how strong is the relationship between the variables, and what is the nature of the relationship. To be able to discover and answer the cause-and-effect relationship is a strength of quantitative research. Lastly, in quantitative research, the study can either be experimental or nonexperimental, meaning clinical trial or observational study, allowing for different types of research studies to be conducted.
