3.4.1 Interviews
An interview is defined by Kahn and Cannell, as a purposeful discussion between two or more people (1957). Interviews can help researchers to gather valid and reliable data that are relevant to their research questions and objectives. In fact, the research interview is a general term for several types of interview. This fact is significant since the nature of any interview should be consistent with the research questions and objectives, the purpose of the research and the research strategy that researcher has adopted (Saunders, Lewis, Thornhill, 2009, p.318).
There are three main types of interviews: (1) structured, (2) semi-structured and (3) unstructured. The differences between these three types lie in the structure behind the interviews; structured interviews follow a strategic structure whereas in unstructured interviews, the interviewee is given the freedom to answer the questions as he wishes (Ghauri, Grønhaug and Kristianslund, 1995). Following are the definitions of the different types

The reason behind this choice is that semi-structured interviews follow a strategically planned set of questions to be answered, however the interviewer gives the interviewee the freedom to freely express himself and his thoughts during the process. One general problem when conducting qualitative interviews, with open-ended questions, is that the interview is affected by the interest and opinions of the interviewer. Semi-structured interviews are rather organized in terms of what issue will be discussed during the interview but the follow-up questions will be depending on the opinions of the interviewer. Another problem that can occur is misunderstandings and misinterpretations of words. This could in particular be a problem within this research since interviews have been conducted in English language, which is not the mother tongue, for neither the respondents nor the

The following paper will attempt to analyze and dissect several key factors of what took place during my informational interview. Additionally, I will cover the good and bad interview skills I learned throughout this course exercise. Lastly, I will include within my paper the aspects I learned when it comes with dealing with teamwork functions and how losing one person greatly affects the outcome of an assignment.
At the young age of six, a dark haired little boy was enjoying his times that he spent with his family. Together, they’d spend time visiting other family members in other parts of Wisconsin, as well as going to the zoo, parks, and much more. He was a very active child who loved playing sports to keep himself occupied. This young boy is someone that I would eventually meet and we have found aspects of our life’s to be similar, for example coming from a rough home situation in common along with our strong work ethic, and our thoughts and feelings. His name is Travis Korff.
The Difference between cognitive, kinesic, and analytical interviewing are how they are used within an interview. Cognitive interviewing is a method of interviewing the eyewitnesses or even the victims about what they may remember from the crime scene which the primary focus is to make the person(s) be aware of all the events that took place at the scene. The only way that cognitive interviews do not work is when the person(s) being questioned is in a confabulation state of mind or to put it simply the begin to fabricating or even distorting the truth of what actually took place at the crime scene. Kinesic interviewing is basically the study of non-verbal body language. Police investigators use this method to watch for unspoken clues like gestures,
A semi- structured interview is a meeting in which the interviewer does not strictly follow a formalized list of questions. They will ask more open ended questions, allowing for a discussion with the interviewee rather than a straightforward question and answer format. Semi-structured interviews are often preceded by observation, informal
Cognitive Interviewing is a technique that meets the goals of efficient investigative interviewing. The core elements of Cognitive Interviewing are based on three psychological processes such as memory and cognition, social dynamics, and communications (Geiselman & Fisher, 2014). The memory enhancing components of CI attempts to maximize the amount of retrieval by exploring multiple retrieval routes within the interviewee’s memory. The social dynamics element of the technique consists of rapport building and encouraging interviewee participation. Without the social dynamics, the interviewer is unable to gather truthful and quality information from the interviewee.
I plan on using other types of data collection, but for the purpose of this paper I will be explaining how I will be using interviewing to gather information on this subject. Interviewing I decided to use this method as a way of getting into the field to get a firsthand look at some of the things each side is facing. I wanted this qualitative approach to be more emic than etic. Since interviewing is face to face and I have to become involved in the sample I am researching, I felt emic was the best choice.

This face to face interview with Jeff Tarver, was a privilege to do, it opens my eyes up and encourage me to do more great things in this world. He encourages me to be a better person and never give up and the sky is the limit. The quote that, “the demographics of the United State began to shift over the past few decades, leading to growth in the Asian, African American, and particularly, Latino populations”. By Jeff Tarver been a young African American he is leading to growth dealing with the workforce, because he was able to start his nonprofit organization which is call L.I.F.E. League.
