When one goes to fill out a job application there are probably many thoughts running through ones’ mind. “Is this the right job for me, how much is the base pay, do they have good benefits, etc.” However not too many people take the time to do the research on the company that they are applying for. Instead they find out how great the company is or how horrible once they become apart of the company. Although there are some companies that are well known prior to people applying to them. Publix and Walmart are two well known retail companies that hold great and horrendous job standards. When you talk about a multi-million-dollar corporation that has almost any and everything that a consumer could ask for in one retail store the first place that comes to mind would natural be Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart strives in customers first policy. Constantly making sure that whatever a customer wants or needs it can be accomplished. Wal-Mart also strives and lives on the motto of “Every day Low Prices.” This motto has gone so far that they now price match to other stores for the customers. This simply means that if the same product is found at another store for a cheaper price Wal-Mart will sell it to the customer for the price that it was found listed as at the other store. The employees are always willing and wanting to go out their way to help a customer, employees always have a welcoming demeanor towards all of their customers. All of these positive attitudes steam from how Publix treats their employees. Treating them not as what is seen in their computer system as another number, but a person who has to take care of their house hold, or pay their way through school. Publix sees the ripple effect of treating their employees good and how it runs over on to the employees treating their customers even
Chick-fil-a was the only job I could find when the time came for me to work to fund the majority of my college expenses. I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be working at a fast food establishment but the positive and cheerful environment that was fostered there made it fun. The customers always welcomed it and reciprocated it with equal enthusiasm. I saw the positive results of a customer-centered business. This model could be applied in my future career in medicine to ensure that patients feel heard and appreciated while employees feel happy to go to work.
Publix has increased from a single store to over 1,077 supermarkets with over 160,000 associates. They are continuously hailed as the number one supermarket for customer satisfaction and one of Fortune’s 100 and 500 best companies to work for. Their Human Resource Representatives ensure their ethical policy is monitored by assisting in defining standards for the delivery of phenomenal customer service.
Since the company was founded as a corner store, the company’s business plan has always emphasized on expect more, pay less brand promise that sets it apart from its chief rival, Walmart. Although, Walmart is known for its low prices and offers a large selection to its customers; it’s customer service is often found to be nonexistent. This

Publix takes care of their employees by having great insurance providers to keep the employees feeling good and keeping them in good shape. Also, Publix gives their employees a FREE share of stock for a certain amount of money that is earned just for working for them! There are other little things that Publix helps with too, but these are the main benefits of the company and rarely do you find a company as good as this one that gives certain things for free, has great insurance, or gives the employees a good retirement plan. How could anyone not be happy with this, after all these benefits that are given it sounds like this is the place to be doesn't
Publix consciously allowed Hispanics, like me, to personally connect with their home products like Sazon Goya, Sofrito, Pastelitos, Flan, and more. I major in Publix Policy studies as a way to use my knowledge and raise social awareness of the need for ethnic inclusiveness in modern society. Today’s America is as divided as yesterday’s America; we have progressed and regressed many times in the last few decades. I want to be part of the subtle change that shows people the benefits of a collaborative society like the one inside every Publix. So tell me, do you know about
positive change to the people it serves as they encourage their green initiatives, to support and share fresh ideas and unique perspectives by hiring different kinds of people, cultures, and abilities (Publix, 2014). Moreover, Publix continues to thrive as they continue to serve a wide variety of customers, support a diverse community that provide the right product in the right store location, while continuing to purchase products from mainstream and diverse vendors and suppliers (Publix, 2014). Rhode (2006), states that organizations like Publix Supermarket, Inc could be more inclusive in their philanthropic giving by increasing self-awareness of intrinsic problems towards their mode of social problem solving (p.263). Additionally, the Publix organization clear strategic plan includes human and financial resources to help implement their proposed workload of their business plan, the mobilization for
This seems like a smart marketing trick that is surely used in other retailers. And what really matters here is that the average American or even those who cannot afford buying things from regular superstores can actually enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart and buy just anything they need at preferential prices. This is the result of Asian-based imports where cutting costs helps Wal-Mart sell at the lowest prices possible thus being able to serve all classes of the
Walmart was founded in the summer of 1962 by Kingfisher, Oklahoma native Sam Walton. Although Walton’s original vision for the store was relatively modest, the half century since its founding has seen Walmart morph into one of the biggest companies in the world. Today headed by one Doug McMillon, Walmart boasts more than 5000 stores in the United States of America alone and employs more than 1.5 million people. Walmart is undoubtedly an American institution, yet each Walmart store feels like its own little country. Walmart seems to have its own laws and customs and the people who shop their on a regular basis appear almost primitive in their behavior as they go about raiding the store’s shelves and wrestling with fellow customers for discount flat screen televisions and bulk packages of two-ply toilet paper.

Publix is a grocery store that I am familiar with in Huntsville. Publix stands out from its competitors like Kroger, Piggy Wiggly, Wal-Mart, and Whole Food Market for many reasons. For starters, Publix has a unique rewards program. For example, the Publix baby club and Publix Paw are free to join and include monthly savings and expert tips on baby and pet items. Publix also has two for one coupon which in contrast most of their competitors do not have available.
In this report, it was indicated that the employees were rude, they shouted at customers, accused customers of thievery, managers avoided customers and the employees went to the extent of scratching customer vehicles. This was retrieved from the online forums where people voice out their experiences and opinions. Websites such as ComplaintsBoard.com, Consumersaffairs.com and Report Your complaint.com also highlight lots of issues involving customer service at Walmart. Slow customer service has also been a challenge to Walmart as per Reuters Report 2011.

Sam Walton always said the greatest risk to his business was that his customers would stop buying at his stores. That fear translated into customer fanaticism is strengthened by HR to this day. Traditionally, everyone is focused on improving every aspect of customer service, because they know the greatest risk of all may depend on it… their own job.
