The fact is that interoperability is …show more content…

Note that the same tactical doctrine is being prescribed to address the random school shooting in the Nation today. This suggestion, however, is in the public policy domain of the homeland security (HLS) event equation. Tactically, it means that once the lines of cooperation are clearly defined, then the relevant response groups must decide how to talk with each other if their communications gear

Emergencies are best managed on the lowest possible level. Homeland Security Presidential Directive - 5 set the precedent for collaboration in responding to emergencies whether they are man-made or natural disasters. Resiliency creates a community that is able to come back from a crisis stronger and wiser than they were before. Although all aspects of the U.S. emergency management system are essential, the most important aspect is the whole community approach comprised of the public – private partnership and personal preparedness.

In regards to the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, the main objective of the act was to limit the ability of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement purposes, but little to no success they were used as a security detail according to White House Reports on Hurricane Katrina, sociological journals, and books ranging from Militarizing the American Criminal Justice System (Kraska, 2001) to Acts of God (Steinberg, 2006), (Farmer, 2011). Introduction This informational interview was conducted with Dr. Pamela Aaltonen, a Homeland Security instructor at Purdue University, and active member at the Tippecanoe Board of Health. Her role here is to frame issues in the concept of Homeland security and emergency management. Dr. Aaltonen holds a key role in Homeland Security, as many disasters contain human health issues, such as mass causalities, pandemic outbreaks, and sanitary issues following natural disasters. Dr. Aaltonen’s flavor of Homeland Security differs from the work that I normally see, but as displayed during the interview, Homeland Security is a multi-disciplinary field that requires cooperation across all fields.
Quality of Communication and 9/11 Imagine hearing sudden honking when driving home from work. Three tons of metal races towards the side of the car as hands fly up in protection and screeching pierces the ear. After collision, dispatch is called, but the only sound that is heard are murmurs. This is how lots of the victims of 9/11 felt when they tried to call the police.
With effective communication, firefighters and first responders can carry out rescue operations thoroughly and effectively, as well as helping people search for escape routes and carry out evacuations. This research can apply to several emergency situations, minor or major, as well as any terrorism attack that becomes prevalent, an example being the attacks on the United States in September of 2001. Proponents of the militarization of police argue that such tactics can provide important benefits in high-risk situations. One key advantage is the enhanced tactical capabilities that militarized police units possess, which can allow them to effectively address situations with significant potential risk to officers or the public. Examples include superior weaponry in comparison to any criminal element they face, personal armor and safety equipment, as well as enhanced vehicles to transport more officers or secure thoroughfares. Unfortunately, these situations have become more common in recent years, with a drastic rise in mass shootings and terrorist attacks (). These kinds of attacks are precisely why proponents of militarizing the police insist on its importance.
Incident command system refers to a comprehensive system that is developed to help responders to form an intricate system that meets the demands of a single or multiple incidents (Carmicheal, 2010). The goal is to avoid confusion and increase efficiency in handling all the activities within the shortest time possible. The current scenario is characterized by a severe natural disaster that has hit the community of Edenton. Extensive damages are being reported from the multiple points in the city, which means the responders should form a team that can handle each point.
Its main objective is to make certain safety in schools during evolving crisis as well as disasters. One of its strongest points that come out is that the roles and duties of all stakeholders are well articulated with greatly structured media communication plan. All stakeholders have enough information to respond to both foreseen and unforeseen disasters. Advisory in all crisis and disaster situation is very clear, processes of responses are also very well described. However, since the advent of the social media has given birth to the internet generation who are always on their phones rather than on books, this may be creating a gap between the content format and the intended audience (Timothy, 2014).
Communication in a crisis is vital. It is often the first aspect of teamwork to go because many team members have different ways of dealing with a crisis. Organization is also hard to keep when things change unexpectedly.
Consequently, people tend to misused communication technology to develop unethical behaviors. For instance,
